Hi, everyone!
I am seriously considering publishing, but I don’t know where to start exactly. I have three books on the subject, but I don’t know if they’re up to date. Do you know of any trustworthy sites that I could submit my work to besides KP and SE? My current WIP I am most likely going to make a set of short stories, a big novel, or a series. Do you know of any sites that would publish stories serially? Do you know of any good resources for finding out more about publishing?

March 10, 2021 at 1:46 pm #95214@scoutfinch180 So 1, definitely take ur time and research it.
2, check out these sites, Barnes &Noble Press, Ingramspark (if the price is too much u can look up coupons, and Ingram does hardcovers), Amazon KDP and I’m sure there are loads of others but those are the 3 I’ve heard of often from writers.
And don’t forget to pray about it!!

#ProtectSebMarch 10, 2021 at 1:55 pm #95216Thank you so much! I have definitely been praying about it, and I want to try it out. (I’ll probably start small by sharing something on KP or SE every so often)
Do you know about traditional publishers?

If hours don't turn into daysMarch 10, 2021 at 7:04 pm #95233If you’re wanting to go with traditional publishing, then the first thing you’ll need to do is get a literary agent. You can find them on sites like Publisher’s Marketplace and Query Tracker. Or you can just search literary agents who represent [your genre]. Most big publishing houses will not look at your manuscript without a literary agent. So this step is almost necessary, unless you go with an independent publishing company/small publishing house.

TeenWritersNook.comMarch 11, 2021 at 4:12 pm #95299Thank y’all so much for your advice! I am still so new to the publishing world I don’t know which publishing style is the right fit for me, thanks for your tips!
What does a literary agent do exactly?
Is Tapas for only manga and anime-type stories?
My current WIP is a short story I may turn into a series of short stories or a big novel or set of novels. I have no idea if the finished work will be worth publishing, but if it is, and I published this story (as a book) it would be my debut novel as well as my first complete start to finish short story.
I have written other stories that got close to being rough drafts of complete stories, but I ran out of ideas for their endings and both are in a sorry state of choppiness. I intend to dust off one of them and make it into a book that I MAY try to publish because I still really like it, but I’ll have to wait and see.

March 11, 2021 at 4:15 pm #95301@scoutfinch180 I believe that while the majority of Tapas seems to be anime-type stuff, I think you can publish pretty much whatever you want there.

If hours don't turn into daysMarch 11, 2021 at 4:26 pm #95302A literary agent pitches your novel to the big publishing companies and negotiates the best contract for you. They represent authors and are like the person in between the author and publishing houses. They work on commission, getting about 10-15% of what the author they represent makes. Basically, without a literary agents, authors can’t get big houses like Scholastic, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins – or if you’re writing Christian fiction than those would be like Zondervan and Thomas Nelson – to name a few.
I don’t really know a lot about hybrid publishers, but I found this article for you that might help. https://blog.reedsy.com/hybrid-publishers/

TeenWritersNook.comMarch 11, 2021 at 4:29 pm #95303Okay, I’m going to be honest with you. You’re not going to like this. I didn’t like it either when I had finished my first novel.
Most professionals recommend that you should not try to publish your first novel. A lot of people have said it should be at least you’re sixth or seventh. I understand that’s super discouraging, but I’ve been working on editing my believe, sixth novel? I’m really glad I didn’t try to publish sooner.
Anyone else have thoughts?

ekseaver.wordpress.comMarch 11, 2021 at 4:49 pm #95306@e-k-seaver I would kind of agree. I would not publish my first novel. The one which I’m currently working to publish is something I came up with/wrote after like 11 other novels. I believe Story Embers has an article on such…

If hours don't turn into daysMarch 11, 2021 at 4:53 pm #95307Okay, thanks! I was just wondering because I saw all the anime-type pictures on there, is it a popular site?
Thank you!
Thanks for the tip! It’s not discouraging at all because I’ve been thinking more about publishing lately. But I was wondering about that, because I know my writing is of a fair quality, better when errors have been identified. I mostly have written a ton of sketches and disconnected scenes centering around characters in a fantasy story I’m saving for later because I feel like it is very complex and I want to wait to tackle it.
Are you going to try to publish?
What’s your opinion on MAYBE positing some of my really small work?
