The end of a story, a beautiful picture; a feeling of longing yet hope~

That’s my wish to create.October 16, 2021 at 4:03 pm #106174No worries! Thank you for your input, I always appreciate hearing other people’s advice about this issue, since it is something I struggle with more often than I like. With relatively small short stories, I’m fine with restarting them, since a thousand or so words is not as big of a commitment to me as a novel is. But I definitely agree with you about continuing to write, finishing, and then editing a novel. I’m not very good at pushing through to finish stories
because I get so tired of trying to fix them hahaso I’ve been trying to get better at just finishing stories by doing one short story a month 🙂October 16, 2021 at 6:40 pm #106190Awesome!!! I’m so happy for you. 😆
November 1, 2021 at 2:56 am #106856Hi, Jody! I’m terribly sorry about this being so late. My absence from KP has caused me to miss a lot of awesome posts around here sadly. And I know you got the issue fixed, (I’m super super happy for you btw 😀 ), but I wanted to say that that is extremely relatable. Especially when trying to add themes simply ‘cause you feel like you should have one. That’s been the destruction of many of my short stories. I don’t have a ton of awesome advice for this, so just wanted to let you know, you’re not alone there and it helps a lot to try not worrying about what you think you should write and just write what needs to be written if that makes any sense XD 🙂

November 5, 2021 at 3:44 pm #107007@abigail-m Hey and welcome back! Thanks for replying! I’m so glad this is such a relatable issue, since I tend to struggle with it a lot. Especially recently, I’ve realized more and more that you should just write what needs to be written, even when you feel like you should be adding other things. Trying to add in themes just kills my writing, so I don’t do that anymore–I just use the themes that are already there once I’m finished writing. Whenever I get stuck now, I’m getting better at realizing that I’m stuck because I’m writing what I think I should write instead of being creative with what I actually want to write. 🙂
November 6, 2021 at 4:26 am #107015Thank you! It’s great to be back around on KP:)
You said all that beautifully and I’ll never be able to stress it enough on how much of a relatable struggle it is. But that’s right, you have to write the story that you would want to pluck off your shelf and read. Or else, what’s the point? If you don’t enjoy writing it, the reader won’t enjoy reading it. Plus God will guide your pen if you ask Him:)
‘Write what needs to be written’ is a fantastic quote to always remember:) -
