The Lady Sapphire
In 672 a ship containing military and political secrets goes down in a storm. Most of the people on board escaped, including the captain, his wife, and their daughter (Wynfred). But the Lady Sapphire is lost beneath the waves, taking with her the keys to a kingdom.
The year is 821, and the country is on the verge war. Maud (full name Margaret) has been sent to a home for poor girls in want of an education or betterment of health.
However, she is unwittingly thrust into the middle of a tangle involving a 130 year old ship wreak, a lost kingdom, and her own family line. With the help of fellow boarders (one of which in an invalid), and the schoolmadam (a stern but tenderhearted middle aged woman), Maud must avert the destruction of her native land.
But the keys are still somewhere under the waves.
The book was supposed to be told mainly from Margaret’s POV with scenes from Wynfred interspersed throughout. I never got past the second chapter, and my writing was horrific.

Fork the GorkDecember 1, 2021 at 11:42 pm #107611Oh, I forgot to mention this is in a different world. (A little important, just a little.)
And I’m not that sad over the computer crash, at least when related to that story. I didn’t like my writing when I wrote it, so I know it was something no one should have to read.

December 13, 2021 at 4:49 pm #107848@kathleenramm I know, I really should! His name was Snowflake, and I actually have a stuffed animal of him. He’s showed up a bit from time to time as a minor character in some of the stories. He apparently enjoys playing matchmaker as well as time traveling.
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
