Where do y’all go for dragon inspiration?
I went to the library yesterday and loaded up on books with pictures of crocodiles, snakes, birds, etc., to help me draw my own dragon for the book I’m (supposed to be) writing. I already had some features I liked, eyes, basic snout structure, and nostrils, (that I came up with by drawing from my imagination) but I still needed more details.
June 1, 2016 at 10:53 pm #13640I was writing a story this morning and I got called for lunch so I hurriedly finished my sentence and I wrote this:
Since King Octavius is no longer ruler, the city is left with no ruler.
I couldn’t believe that I wrote that. I am definitely going back to fix that up. 🙂
@overcomer I’m not sure. Try calling @hope. She works with dragons a lot.June 1, 2016 at 11:12 pm #13641Haha! @bluejay . 🙂
Thanks!
June 2, 2016 at 7:30 am #13647That’s pretty funny, @bluejay. 🙂
@overcomer Yes, dragons are fun. I like looking at snakes for facial inspiration. But mainly I look up pictures on pinterest or google. I’ve never tried getting enough details down to draw one though. But I did write an article last month about dragons which might give you some ideas. 🙂 You can read it here.INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
June 3, 2016 at 11:01 pm #13750Yes, snakes are helpful creatures aren’t they? 😉 @hope
I’ve actually read your article and liked it. 🙂

June 4, 2016 at 7:16 am #13755Honestly @overcomer, I just pull the most random things out of my head for dragon inspiration. I end up getting pretty original ‘looks’ that way though— dragons with feathery wings, and plumes on top of their heads, and very large, oblong eyes fringed with feathers instead of scales… I also read a fair bit of Norse/Celtic/Scottish mythology, which is actually liberally scattered with bits and pieces of dragon inspiration.
That probably wasn’t helpful at all. 😛
June 8, 2016 at 9:49 pm #13898I’ve just shared this in the topic Writer’s Corner” but I’ve got to do it here too. I have just reached a novellette length (7,542 words) with my story, that as yet, does not have a title. 🙂 *But I think I’m going to call it, The Golden Conch*
Sundaes for everyone.
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????June 8, 2016 at 11:00 pm #13903Three cheers for @bluejay ! Hip, hip, hurrah! (Times 3! 😉 ) Good for you! I’ve never written a novella. Sundaes are fantastic. 😀 But here’s a cake. Make a wish! ? (This is a sort of birthday isn’t it?)

June 8, 2016 at 11:14 pm #13905Congrats @bluejay! That’s so exciting can’t wait to read it! Yum, I love ice cream 🙂
Theater kid. Currently depressed because I can't stop listening to sad musicals.
June 8, 2016 at 11:41 pm #13906@overcomer Thanks. *bites into cake. Yummy* Oh goody I love birthdays. *scrunches up eyes, clasps hands and makes a wish*
And just for your information I actually haven’t written a novella but a novellette. The difference is the words count. A novellette is 7,500-20,000. A novella is 20,000-50,000. And then a novel is 50,000-110,000. Any longer than that and it becomes epics and sequels. 🙂
@christi-eaton Thank you. I hope that this will be one that works out so that you can read it. *Fingers crossed* 😀June 9, 2016 at 7:56 am #13913Love the title, @bluejay

June 9, 2016 at 11:50 am #13921Oh, sorry @bluejay . I must have misread your comment the first time. Thanks for the low-down, though. I didn’t know all of the numbers yet. 🙂 Someday I must write an epic! I love long books, so long as the plot is deep and intricate enough to need that much developing.
June 9, 2016 at 4:11 pm #13931@hope thanks.
@overcomer no problem. Ooh an Epic!?! Good luck. I have only just reach novellettes so I still have a distance to go. 😉 Yes, long books are great, but I still fly through them in one day. Some in half a day.:)June 9, 2016 at 7:33 pm #13932@overcomer is there such a thing as a mega-epic? 😛 I’m afraid that’s what I write. It’s actually a bit annoying, sometimes— I really admire strong, simple storytelling, but I can’t seem to keep anything simple to save my life. 😉
June 9, 2016 at 7:54 pm #13933*Yells for everyone to hear* 9,312 words!!!!!!! It’s finished. (at least the first draft) Still a lot of work to get it to a readable story but….*throws confetti* Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 *Goes back and grabs sundae to celebrate.
(Oh and @kate-flournoy, do you have any more brilliant ideas? Cause if you do, I’m ready for another lot.)
