      Good points, Ezra. I think that romance, especially in movies or action writing of any kind, just sorta gums up the works. Its unnecessary. Its only there because (and forgive me for saying this) “sex” sells. My apologies but it’s true. That’s the only reason they put it in adventure writings, at least for the most part.

        @Hannah, that would be adorable. Equally unrealistic, but adorable.

        @Ezra
        1. SO much this. In fact, I think there was a meme of Mr. S relevant to this floating around on pinterest somewhere, which I shall find and bring back at a later date.

        2. Yuppers. I guess some people think their writing can’t stand alone without some sort of shock value? Dunno bro. In some cases romance in adventure novels are great (I know, I know ‘and you never read the prisoner of zenda’ but the prisoner of zenda is an example when the love plot is to forward the story, not just some random storyline floating along.

        On the other hand, sometimes it isn’t relevant to the plot, but it is relevant to the character development. I.E, Eowyn and Faramir/Aragorn.

          This is what I found on a brief google search. Hopefully we haven’t done the same thing with KP!

              Sometimes (quite often) romance in stories is just pointless, but does that mean we should throw it out? I don’t think so. I generally don’t like it when it is the main theme, but let’s be honest. How many real life characters in history have fallen (or if they were the more rational type) stepped into love? 95%? Sounds about right. It is just realistic. Of course, how you write it is important, and there is nothing wrong with not writing it. In fact, some plots will be better without it. But if you avoid it in every single book you ever write … really? …

                @Emma yes I think it would be adorable but how would it be unrealistic? πŸ™‚

                @Reagan oh dear I hope not!

                @Daeus
                I don’t think it should be avoided in every book but a good deal of them could do without it. Now me, I love romance books and probably the majority of books on my shelf are romances but even I can see they do get in the way sometimes. There are some places they just don’t belong,

                  I am digging this up out of the archives of yesteryear cause I want to tell you all about a book I love, and it fits in this category. It’s called The Old River Road, about the author’s great-grandfather and grand-mother.
                  And what @hope said (I think) it continues the life of romance after the wedding. It starts with them courting, then married, and continues until probably seven-ten years after the wedding. And the nice thing is, it’s Christian. No in-appropriate scenes, no dating six different guy before you find ‘the one’ no love at first sight, none of all the things that annoys me so much.
                  The authoress’ name is Ivy Rose _____ I don’t know her last name. But it’s a really good book and I wanted to recommend it here.

                          @anne-of-lothlorien So she got it published? Yay!!! πŸ™‚ I liked it too. I forgot it was based on her grandparents, though. That’s neat.

                            @hannah-c

                            … And then a resulting move maybe to a small apartment that doesn’t have room to sling a cat.

                            What’s with this unprejudiced violence against cats?? >:/ πŸ˜›

                            Okay, back on topic. I, for one, have never read a pure romance story, nor will I want to (unless it’s like these more clever ones I’ve been reading about here, about marriage and stuff). I think, and this is just my personal opinion, that romance is better suited as a subplot to a greater story. I think this works well in serials, as it has time for character development. This is just my 2% of a dollar, though, and other’s may not agree. I’d be game to try and debate it! XD

                              @Leumeister they make great units for measuring space. Can you imagine a room so small you can’t sling a cat in it without hitting a wall? XD
