Through darkness,
light shines brightestFebruary 6, 2023 at 3:49 pm #131885@felicity I’m ok with someone else going first. Then I can figure out what’s going on and formulate a reply.
I did write an RP from Howzer’s perspective a couple days ago–what he thought of everyone’s surprise at seeing him. Maybe that’ll start some conversation if you want to read it.

February 6, 2023 at 3:56 pm #131892Orielle
Her eyes focused on a door in front of her. ‘Ah, yes,’ she mused. ‘I must have drifted off to refresh my thoughts. Where am I again?’ There were shelves and shelves of books. She reached out and took one from its home. Dust particles floated into the air, being freed from their abode on the book cover. In the sun light streaming in from the window, the dust could be seen clearly as it whirled away. The book Orielle had chosen opened up to the middle in her hands. Slowly, she read the words. It was the story of a fellowship of people. One of the characters, to her surprise, was an elf like herself. “Odd,” she said aloud.
“What is odd?”
Orielle turned to see a woman, who was peering questioningly at her.
“Well, can you speak?” asked the woman impatiently.
“You have been created to carry out some kind of task, have you not?” Orielle questioned.
The woman took a step back. “I don’t know what you are talking about. I’m stuck here in this stuffy library. Name is Jalene.” She briskly walked away.
As she returned the book and began to try the door knob, Orielle heard other voices. New ones. It sounded as though a group of girls were saying hello, meeting one another. After several tries, the door opened. Darkness swallowed her as she passed through the arch. Her keen eyes detected something ahead. But no outside light was to be seen.
“If only there was something, someone to bring some light to this place…..” She stopped mid sentence. There was a dragon here. He seemed nice enough. What if he could breathe fire and be the light? Orielle turned around and bumped into someone.

Jaye
“If only there was something, someone to bring some light to this place…..” came a voice. Two more girls stepped into the area. One gasped. “A dragon!”
I nodded. “He’s friendly, don’t worry.”
(Notes about him: He can talk, but in dragon language. I can understand him but I’m not sure about most other people. Also, he doesn’t breathe fire, he breathes ice, but he can create a dim blue glow from inside his throat.)

I observed the chatter and greetings, the slight awkward pauses and the introducing of a dragon, and took to the ladder that lead up to the balcony. Climbing swiftly, I reached the top and leaned on the railing that overlooked the huge library. From here I could watch safely. Out of reach of the dragon…whoops never mind. I sucked in my breath as the creature backed up and I realized how tall he was. He didn’t seem too dangerous though. In fact, he looked a bit worried.
“We’re certainly not going to do anything to you,” I chuckled.
He turned, surprised, and I found myself looking into the eyes of the very first dragon I had ever seen.

February 6, 2023 at 4:32 pm #131898Howzer
“We’re certainly not going to do anything to you,” said a girl up on the railing.
Good.
She locked eyes with him, and again he realized just how similar humans and dragons really were.
He had no reason to be afraid of her, at least.
He wanted to talk to her, to ask her what she thought of him, but he had no way of speaking her language, nor she of his.
Perhaps there was a…..book….here that’d tell?
He flicked his tail and growled, “Jaye.”
His human friend looked up from the book she was reading.
“Is there a book of dragon language?” Howzer asked.
(note, everyone else will hear his words as growls/snarls/moans.)

February 6, 2023 at 4:45 pm #131899Orielle
“I apologize for bumping into you….” Orielle started and then she realized she was speaking to a tail. The dragon’s tail. Rounding a corner, she noticed a few people, one girl high up on a balcony.
Another girl was reading a book. The dragon seemed to be communicating in some way to her.
“I don’t know your name,” Orielle began, “but is this dragon yours?”
“Yes,” said the girl. “Oh, and my name is Jaye.”
“I’m pleased to meet you. I am Orielle. Does your dragon have the ability to produce light in any way?”

February 6, 2023 at 4:46 pm #131900@everyone I have to get off now, but you can go on without me. I will be back on tomorrow, even though that’s not part of the allotted time.

February 6, 2023 at 5:01 pm #131907@keilah-h Ok, I’ll be on tomorrow too!
I backed up as the dragon made some growling noises. My eyes grew wide. But the dragon didn’t spout fire or smoke. It seemed to be communicating with a girl. I looked at the girl closer. “Is he yours?” I asked. “And…can you understand what he’s saying…I mean, growling?”
Meanwhile, down below, Jalene slipped past the elf lady with a frown on her face. She didn’t appreciate the way that being seemed to read her thoughts and look deep into her mind. I prefer to keep the things inside me inside me, she thought darkly.
She moved over to a darker spot and pulled out a book. The name on the cover made her eyes narrow. “Lana’s Story, Book One,” she hissed softly, flipping open the cover. Her eyes moved greedily over the words it opened up to. “…He turned to Jalene, who was trembling from head to toe. “Are you a Grandinwash citizen as well?” came the question.
She lifted her white face and gave a short nod. “Yes, Sir, and I am glad to have served my honorable King for as long as I have.” In her fear, she spoke too much…..”
Jalene’s eyes smoldered. She waited until her author was hidden from view behind the dragon and then began tearing out the page.

February 6, 2023 at 5:12 pm #131912Sorry for being a little late.
Rythin
Rythin watched his companions as the numbing flow of aether flowed through his veins. The aether was slowly dissipating and he was certainly glad he had chosen to use a relatively small amount.
Compared to the great beast in the center of the room Rythin was a shadow. A few of the girls greeted it as a dragon, a though which Rythin thought fairly odd. The beast certainly had the scales commonly associated with the prehistoric beasts but the size didn’t compare. From rythins small knowledge of the ancient creatures they were supposed to be long, more like legged snakes. Besides, the wings gave the monster more of a avian look.
As the creature stood Rythin resized that monster was too much to credit the lumbering giant. The creature seemed much more curious rather than confused.
Rythin debated whether to return to the shadowy passages but he knew Myri would have councled him to stay. People, Myri had said, are the greatest tools you will ever find.
As Rythin approached he sheathed his dagger and tried to assume a friendly disposition. He began to feel for the minds of those nearby and was surprised to see that the beast had a conciouse. Rythin formed a link between his mind and the creatures.
Touch one hand to your forehead if you are more than just a mindless beast, sent Rythin.
