@seekjustice I haven’t read Frankenstein, but I may have to depending on how this conversation goes. 😉
@devastate-lasting How old was she?
@kathleenramm @e-k-seaver @godlyfantasy12 I started reading The Traitor by V.S. Alexander yesterday. I’m only a few pages in, but the story holds some promise (despite some obvious repetition that made me raise an eyebrow). I don’t read a lot of just plain historical fiction (particularly fiction not written by Christian writers), so I’m not sure how I’ll enjoy it.Has anyone read anything by V.S. Alexander? What are y’all’s thoughts on modern historical fiction?

@devastate-lasting Wow! That’s great encouragement for us, though.
January 8, 2021 at 4:54 pm #88643@seekjustice Never read the book in my life.
January 9, 2021 at 8:07 pm #88684Not sure why, but that’s a little hard to believe.

@kathleenramm I thought the exact same thing.
January 10, 2021 at 3:09 am #88705@william-starkey I think you’d definitely enjoy it. I think it fits your style. 😀
@gracie-j @devastate-lasting
I finished it the other day and really enjoyed it! It was a very good book and I thought the themes were very well thought out. I think it was such a good portrayal of why creation belongs to God and God alone, as well as the downfalls of pride and cowardice. It was also written a lot more engagingly than other classic novels (and that’s coming from someone who loves classics!)

@seekjustice I may have to see if that library’s got it. Actually…my dad may have a copy somewhere around here…
@william-starkey I agree. You know, the dark, freaky aspects would fit so well with your persona.January 10, 2021 at 9:21 pm #88792@gracie-j
If your library/dad doesn’t have it it’s free online since it’s long out of copyright 😀 😀

January 11, 2021 at 8:02 am #88800@seekjustice It does have a lot of good themes! Really helped for my class, since they were easy to remember.

@seekjustice Awesome!
@william-starkey Really? I was under the impression that you were out of touch with your true self.January 13, 2021 at 8:13 am #88986@kathleenramm This is such a neat topic!!! I’ve loved looking through everyone’s posts and seeing what people are reading. Unfortunately, I don’t read a ton these days (I blame that #EnglishMajorLife), though I have started listening to audiobooks more these days. (Not having a dishwasher means that I have a lot of potential listening time to fill while I’m, you know, washing mugs.)
Anyway, so I didn’t “read” today or yesterday, but the day before yesterday I listened to a few chapters of Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. Something I’ve really been appreciating as I’ve listened to it is how skillfully Zahn balances the four to five POVs he has in the novel. (I have three POVs in my own WIP, so I’ve been trying to take notes.) Everyone’s goals/situations interconnect with everyone else’s in a very not-forced way, and that tends to lead people to the same locations and thus creates conflict/tension. Also, the villain is quite unique and I appreciate that. 😀
“Seven seconds till the end. Time enough for you. Perhaps. But what will you do with it?”
January 13, 2021 at 9:53 am #88991I’m currently reading Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles. I’m enjoying it so far! Also reading the hobbit and The Magician’s Nephew. (But I missed days of reading lol)

#ProtectSebJanuary 13, 2021 at 10:30 am #88992I read Summer of the Swans a couple of days ago. 1970 middle-grade children’s fiction about a girl during puberty and her autistic brother. I thought it was a sweet, quick read. I haven’t touched a book like that in literal years, so it kind of brought me back to when I was a kid.
