@gracie-j I deleted my old account and started a new one, ah… Currently in the process of transferring books… my username is “Xia Jiao”, and in the case that I am not the only one with that name on the site, look for a guy with a hoodie in the profile picture.

@devastate-lasting You should get a friend request from me!
Btw, what’s the story behind your username on here? I’ve been wondering for the longest time…
December 29, 2020 at 1:05 pm #88075@gracie-j “Devastate Lasting” was my old pen name made up by my cringy twelve-year-old self. One day last year my friend suggested I should change it to something normal, so here we are. She’s now one of my villains, so that’s fun.
My current pen name is “Zhang Linyang”, written as 张凛阳, “Zhang” being my mom’s maiden name, “Lin” meaning cold, which I chose because I really like the character and also because it’s part of the name of one of my favorite bands, and “Yang” means sun, which was a character that my parents had debated naming me.

@devastate-lasting. Thank you for that interesting tidbit! (Also, Devastate Lasting is a fantastic name for a villain, imo, so that worked out well.)
I’m finding that I’m one of the only people on here whose name is pretty transparent… 😉
December 29, 2020 at 3:26 pm #88085@gracie-j XD Your name suits you pretty well, I think.

I made a Goodreads account when I was like, eight, but I haven’t been active on it for a few years now. But I have been thinking about getting back into it seeing how many people on the forum have a Goodreads account and it would be cool to connect over there! So I’ll get back to you with my username when I find my old account and update it.
December 30, 2020 at 5:12 pm #88180Today I read eliza and her monsters.
I started it at 10:30 pm last night. Tried to go.to sleep around 11:30. After an hour of rotating between prayer and anxiety attacks in the darkness of my room, I picked it back up and finished it by 1:30, then proceeded to lay back down and ponder it for an hour.
It was pretty good.

@devastate-lasting Aw, thanks!
@kathleenramm Yeah…Goodreads is a great way to connect and organize one’s book lists, I think. (Also fantastic for authors, so…) Just let me know, or you can find me under “Grace A. Johnson”–it’ll be an author profile.December 31, 2020 at 1:38 pm #88211Today I read a couple more chapters of Spinning Silver and my initial enthusiasm has definitely dropped as the characters continue to be bland, (and sometimes outright mean), and the inciting event hasn’t happened yet even though I’m in the fifth chapter. So I’m getting a bit bored, but not to the point of quitting reading the book.
@gracie-j
Great! I’d shoot you a friend request when I find my old account.
I read the synopsis of Eliza and her monsters and it looks pretty interesting! How far into it are you so far?
Also, just last year I too had terrible anxiety whenever I tried to sleep, to the point that I’d be lucky to get just an hour of sleep a night. I’ll pray that God will fill you with peace and rest tonight. Tossing and turning all night because of destructive thoughts can be so miserable. I pray that God will help you has he did for me last year! And if there’s any thing specific you want me to pray for or do for you, just let me know.

December 31, 2020 at 2:19 pm #88212Yesterday I read volumes 3 and 4 of Spy x Family, volume 4 of Pluto, and volume 2 of Waiting For Spring. They’re all pretty good so far. Spy x Family is really cute and wholesome, Pluto, is, per usual, a masterpiece, and Waiting For Spring is extremely tropey but I like it nevertheless.

If hours don't turn into daysDecember 31, 2020 at 2:36 pm #88215I totally understand the anxiety thing. I struggled with horrible horrible anxiety and depression last year. God delivered me tho and I thank him for it!! I do still have my battles but it’s so far from where I was last year.

#ProtectSebDecember 31, 2020 at 4:08 pm #88224Please keep reading Spinning Silver, I can’t guarantee you’ll love it but I was also very bored for the first bit and ended up rating it my favourite Fantasy book of 2020.

January 1, 2021 at 7:50 am #88289That’s great to know! Even though it’s a bit slow as of now, I still really like the atmosphere and the the set up. I’m looking forward to how the story plays out, and if any of the characters get any character development.
January 6, 2021 at 7:44 pm #88531I thought I’d get a discussion going here! I’m currently reading Frankenstein (an audio version narrated by Dan Stevens, 100% worth it if you like your audiobooks read by British men with nice voices). I’m about half way through and I am really enjoying it! So has anyone else read Frankenstein? If so, what did you think of it? Were there any themes that particularly stood out to you? (No spoilers please. I know most of the plot anyway since its so iconic, but I’m really curious to discover it for myself).
Just tagging some KeePers…

January 6, 2021 at 7:56 pm #88533@seekjustice I read Frankenstein last year for school…it was quite interesting. Very impressive to me the age at which Shelley wrote the book.
