@perfectfifths Well, if it’s any consolation, I didn’t win it when I entered last year either. 😉

April 27, 2017 at 9:18 pm #31645Just curious… how long can a short story be before being considered a mini-book? (or whatever you would call that…) I enjoy writing short stories most and it would probably be good to get an idea of how long or short I should make them!
@daeus @ethryndal @emma-flournoy @kate-flournoy @dragon-snapper @mark-kamibayaApril 27, 2017 at 10:07 pm #31653@daeus Haha, maybe a little 😉 I’m actually not too disappointed about it (I think my brother was more disappointed than me XD)
@julia-r Well, according to WikipediaClassification Word count
Novel 40,000 words or over
Novella 17,500 to 39,999 words
Novelette 7,500 to 17,499 words
Short story under 7,500 wordsDoes that help? 🙂

April 27, 2017 at 10:18 pm #31654@perfectfifths it sure does!!! Thanks so much! Sorry I made you look it up… I’m actually in the middle of my very first novel (which I have written more than four chapters of :D)! I’m at 28,925 words and 65 pages, which is pretty exciting for me! Maybe I’ll actually finish it this time! 😛
April 27, 2017 at 10:28 pm #31656@julia-r No worries there, I found it helpful too (and have now stuck it in my sticky notes for future reference 😉 )
Wow, 65 pages and only 4 chapters?? That’s amazing! How many pages do you make your chapters? Mine are generally between 5-7, but I’m noticing that most books are probably a big longer

April 28, 2017 at 12:46 pm #31691@PerfectFifths Aw, too bad. Hopefully the next one.
I’m still weirded out by seeing your name as Louise Fowler. 😛
April 28, 2017 at 12:48 pm #31692Oh, and @PerfectFifths don’t worry too much about chapter length, ’cause I prefer reading shorter chapters a lot of the time. 😀
April 28, 2017 at 10:11 pm #31721@emma-flournoy Haha, thanks 😀 Hey, wanna know a secret? Louise Fowler still isn’t my real name 😉 XD

April 29, 2017 at 12:46 am #31727@Perfectfifths Bummer. 🙁 Well, if it’s any consolation, apparently authors hold this kind of thing up as a badge of honor. It motivate them to better themselves, and when they do succeed, they can look back on how far they’ve come. 😀 We’ll all hope for the next one.
And I’m with Emma. Even though it’s not your real name, I still do a double take every time I read it…I think I’m talking to a different person. 😛

April 29, 2017 at 6:25 am #31728@ethryndal I do believe I have a better chance with the Home Life one. I didn’t feel the one I entered for Bunyan was my best work, due to all the limits they set. I’m actually going to rewrite the story, though, as a full-length novella, at least (we’ll see where it goes) because the idea was great, but it was written a bit weak.
Haha, nope, still me 😀 But having decided on that as my pen name, I wanted to use it 😀

April 29, 2017 at 7:01 am #31729@PerfectFifths Matter of fact, I did know that. I think I saw you tell it to someone else a couple weeks ago or somethins. 😀
What made you pick that name for a pen name?April 29, 2017 at 7:04 am #31730@emma-flournoy Well, my dad suggested it when I made a Facebook page and didn’t want to use my real name. Louise is actually my middle name.

April 29, 2017 at 10:06 am #31735@PerfectFifths Ah-a, you’re forgetting, I’m not a writer. 😉
