      way better!! I love how the mom and dad are actually noticing their kids and are not just obvious adults who need the teens to “enlighten” them.

        The rewrite of the chapter looks good.

        Question of you. What draft number is this?

          Whenever I’m alone and can’t find anyone in the house I assume they’ve been Thanos snapped or something lol.

            also yeah, I enjoyed the revised chapter!! Makes me even more worried for their family now, cause it seems like they have a pretty good one.

              Thank you!! And I totally agree with you, those types of parents are so annoying in fiction (looking at you Disney Channel and YA books).

              @linus-smallprint

              Thanks, and this is technically the first draft, although I started around Christmas last year but ended up deleting a few of the chapters and rewriting them.

              @keilah-h

              Good, good, I’m glad that it makes their disappearance more concerning.

                Ah. I thought it might be the first draft.

                Can I give you some advice?

                From what I can tell about the way you write, you seem to have trouble getting through your progects. My advice to you is common for first drafts. Don’t worry about rewriting anything. Just power through, and keep writing without looking back. There is going to be mistakes. There is going to be stuff that makes you cringe. Rereading the first draft of my story is one of the cringiest things I have ever done. If you keep on going back to fix those mistakes you are going to make very slow progress and get discouraged. The fact of the matter is that first drafts are not good. Even professional authors don’t write good first drafts.

                You’re job right now is to get that story out of your head and onto paper. When the whole thing is out, it will be easier to analyze and improve, and you can look back on our feedback then. It will also feel like you accomplished something, which will give you more energy. We also will be able to give you better feedback when we know where your story is going.

                  Linus is 💯 correct. Plus, the more you pause the more you lose your flow. For me, I turn off autocorrect and grammarly, and I just write and write and don’t look back until the whole thing is on paper. Beginning to end. Then you can go back and start editing and fine-lining and rewriting. Give yourself a foundation to build off of, otherwise you’re just building castles in the sky, and only Miyazaki can do that. 😉

                      sadly I am the only one in my family who likes anime! I guess when I move up to Idaho to go to college next year (Lord willing) I’ll barrow a bunch from the library. 😛

                        Oh, Studio Ghibli is amazing. I have a bunch of the movies on my shelf right now. Which have you watched?

                          just castle in the sky! 😭😭😭😭

                          I really want to watch more but no one else does. I also saw War of the Rohirrim. Other than that, I haven’t seen any anime.

                          it’s just so beautiful and the stories are always told so well….. *sigh*

                            Oh ho ho, well…

                            The thing is, I can’t remember everything that’s in Castle in the Sky, but the rest of the Studio Ghibli films have a lot of Japanese mythological spirits. Beings like No-Face, Totoro, or Mononoke are all considered spiritual powers. I personally do not mind these kinds of characters in literature, as they represent different concepts which are ingrained in the culture, but that’s up to you.

                            Some of my favorite films are Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Kaguya (which made me cry), and The Wind Rises (which also made me cry). I’m forgetting a bunch more.

                            Many, many animes are complete crap, but Ghibli rarely disappoints.
