Hmm… I don’t think there was any scenes I wanted to see that you didn’t get. Do you have illustrations for anywhere near the end? You probably wouldn’t want to show Aaron’s execution, but maybe him standing arrested by the soldiers or something.
My favorites–probably the one of Sabina hugging Turin, the two little boys, and Aaron picking up the little girl. I also like the horse one, but I feel like Aaron’s face might need a little more depth. I can’t really see where his chin meets his neck right now.
FOR TVON
Oh my goodness, there’s so many I like 😅
Some of my favorites: Amelia hugging Joseph (when is that? After their wedding?) and Sabina holding Eric. The one of Sabina and Joseph hugging is good too, but I think Sabina’s hands look slightly too thin–they’re reminding me of claws. I know hands are so hard. The one of them at their wedding is really sweet too (what’s Amelia holding in front of Joseph’s face? Flowers?) and the one of little Joseph, and Joseph and Amelia when she’s pregnant. I love, love, the one of Sabina on Liam’s bed 😭 Oh my goodness. I don’t know why I like it so much, but it looks amazing.
For some reason, the faces in the one of Asher and Eric (whoever’s on the left, his mouth is too slanted, I think.) and the one of Joseph holding the sick girl on the top (the girl’s face doesn’t look right. I’m wondering if you angled her head so that we could see a lot of her hair, then still included part of her face.) Also, I’m noticing that you have a lot of pictures of _______ holding the orphans. Joseph, Aaron, Sabina. Maybe you could swap one or two for a picture of them with the orphans, but not holding one, if that makes sense?
And I would love to see a picture for the beginning of the book–when Joseph and Sabina are both crying about Aaron. You could either have her comforting him, or maybe just show her crying outside of Joseph’s room (I feel like that’s what happened–she was strong in front of him, but showed her grief when she was alone. Maybe her putting away the wedding dress?)
Anyways, great job!!

January 28, 2025 at 12:14 pm #196258I really like the imprisoned ones. And the orphaned kiddos. XD
I noticed you don’t seem to keep to specific face structures for characters, especially Amelia’s nose? It made her a little difficult to pick out without looking at subtitles.
As for other scenes I might have liked to see…maybe right before their interrupted execution? Like where Joseph looks back at Amelia right before he’s led away, with the picture shot over Amelia’s shoulder (if I remember the scene correctly). It could give you a semi-full body pic where you could block out anything that wasn’t working.
All together nice! I don’t know if I’ll be braver enough to try and illustrate my own books. *Hands you a chocolate bar in congratulations*

January 28, 2025 at 12:21 pm #196263I do not like full body illustrations. They are so difficult! Legs are awful! At least I can normally hide them on girls because of skirts and dresses. But Guys….. ugh. So hard to do.
Fair point. I struggle with legs often as well. I’ve been getting better recently.
Do you outline your drawings first? This has helped me improve my own drawings and proportions. It helped me improve my legs.
Oh, do you feel like I missed anything important that you would have wanted drawn?
Hmm… I feel like the temple could use a drawing. One making it look opposing and evil, but I would understand if you thought it best not to include it. I can’t think of any other outstanding scene that needs an illistration.
Oh, hey! More pictures.
I like the one of Joseph staring out at the fields. That one is my favourite from this batch.
I also like Amelia comforting Joseph in the fortress.
(My brother came in while I was looking through these and says he likes how the kissing in the wedding illustration is bleeped out.)
You seem to like drawing people hugging. 11 of the illustrations involved some sort of hug. No wonder you were one of the ones who wanted Stripe to get a hug.
Beric appears to be on a quest to restore his honour or something. (Sorry, it just reminds me of Prince Zuko from Avatar the last Airbender even though he doesn’t have a scar?)
Joseph is not very impressed with the idea of carrying a sick girl.
Amilia looks like a little girl for some reason in the one where Joseph is talking to her about his nightmares.
Think I like the illustrations for the first book better. You have a more even balance of different types of scenes (emotional, character showcase, and even some action.)
I think you could do with some more pictures from more casual and less emotional scenes.
Sometimes it is necessary to paint the sky black in order to see the stars.
January 28, 2025 at 12:42 pm #196266Thank you. Yeah, I like drawing emotional scenes, but I need to narrow down my picks. Like I said, this is round two of narrowing down. These are the ones that were allowed to get past the rough sketch stage.
For some reason, the faces in the one of Asher and Eric (whoever’s on the left, his mouth is too slanted, I think.) and the one of Joseph holding the sick girl on the top (the girl’s face doesn’t look right. I’m wondering if you angled her head so that we could see a lot of her hair, then still included part of her face.)
I’m 50/50 on whether or not I’m going to even keep the one with Asher and Eric. I feel like I went too cartoony.
I’ll take a look at the one with Joseph and the girl.
(what’s Amelia holding in front of Joseph’s face? Flowers?)
Yes, flowers.
I’m working on one with Sabina crying in the beginning. I actually had one with her at Aaron’s grave, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it work since it’s her memory rather than an actually scene.
Also, what’s on Joseph’s hand in the one of him with Amelia in prison?
Um…. it’s called “Joseph was being stubborn and wouldn’t let me draw his hand and I was ripping a hole in the paper I erased it so many times, so then Amelia offered me a random piece of fabric, because she insisted I couldn’t make her skirt cover Joseph’s hand because it wouldn’t lay right. Which I agreed with)
I love, love, the one of Sabina on Liam’s bed 😭 Oh my goodness. I don’t know why I like it so much, but it looks amazing.
SAME!!! I almost cried drawing it.
I am rather inconstant about how my characters look. You’ll never get two characters who look identical. *shrug* I don’t know why. That’s why I’m hoping the captions will help.
I actually thought about doing that scene. I may end up doing it.
Ooo! Chocolate!!! Yum! *snatches and eats*
Do you outline your drawings first? This has helped me improve my own drawings and proportions. It helped me improve my legs.
Or I could just not draw legs.
lolol.
I’m not sure what you mean by outline. I do young sketches, see if I like the drawing, and then move from there.
Hmm… I feel like the temple could use a drawing.
*sobs* I knew someone would say this.
I hate drawing buildings. ugh.
Okay, I’ll give it a try.
I like the one of Joseph staring out at the fields. That one is my favourite from this batch
ME TOO! I have never pulled off a faded jawline before! I was actually play sketching when I did it. (I was in the car waiting for my brother) and then it was amazing! I love it so much. Man! (And I can’t seem to figure out how I pulled it off! XD)
(My brother came in while I was looking through these and says he likes how the kissing in the wedding illustration is bleeped out.)
Haha. Well, we have a sort of rule in our family where we don’t watch kissing scenes in movies because, 1. The actors aren’t married. 2. It’s a Hollywood kiss which is often not the sort of kiss people should do in public. and 3. We don’t need that mental image in our minds. So, when it comes to drawing kissing scenes I feel a little bit the same about it. So, I use flowers, hands, or wind in hair to cover it up. XD

I do. I don’t know why, they’re just fun pictures to draw. As you can see, I have a few options on keepers. In fact, I think I had two versions for Joseph and Amelia. Of the two, which would you go with?
Beric appears to be on a quest to restore his honour or something.
sooooo…. is that good or not? Does it fit him?
Joseph is not very impressed with the idea of carrying a sick girl.
if you remember, he wasn’t.
Amilia looks like a little girl for some reason in the one where Joseph is talking to her about his nightmares.
UGH! I KNOW! I can’t figure out how to fix it. Guys are easier to make look older. I don’t know how to fix a girl.

This is just what I have so far. I have 30+ rough sketches of other scenes, I just didn’t do them yet because I decided it was a hugging day. I’ll maybe work on them later.

Can I just say, that is a hilarious quote. 🤣
I don’t know if the one with Joseph hugging the girl is a major part of the story, so I would maybe hesitate on moving it onto the next stage. Not that every illustration needs to be an important scene, but I don’t know if it will add much to the book. 🤷
Yeah, it would be nice to see a picture of Asher and Eric in the book, but I get it if it doesn’t work. If you’re looking to redo it, it might be more fun to get a drawing of Joseph playing with them in the alleys (this happened a lot in the beginning of the book, I think. OOoohh… or Joseph and Eric washing the floor together as their punishment. That was a cute scene.)
Um…. it’s called “Joseph was being stubborn and wouldn’t let me draw his hand and I was ripping a hole in the paper I erased it so many times, so then Amelia offered me a random piece of fabric, because she insisted I couldn’t make her skirt cover Joseph’s hand because it wouldn’t lay right. LOL! Oh my goodness, that is hilarious. Okay, I mean… no one else pointed it out, so… 😅

January 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm #196269I’m glad I’m funny. When you use these quotes in your books be sure to credit me. *sniff of importance*
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, I may toss it. Both of them actually.
I thought about a floor washing scene and/or playing scene. I’ll have to see. I did a few but didn’t like how they were turning out.

LOLLLLL this happens though. I made one of my characters have a blind eye simply because I couldn’t get that eye to look right.

While your reasons for this are solid (and it makes for an easier drawing experience cause trust me, kiss scenes are HARD), this kinda rule would never be able to fly in my family…..I probably shouldn’t bring up that whole thing though.
Although I definitely agree with the “no kissing in public” thing. Honestly, any kinda affection in public is weird.
I do [like drawing characters hugging] . I don’t know why, they’re just fun pictures to draw.
Ooof I’m bad at posing characters, so hugs are a thing I haven’t tried. Any tips?

Hmmm. Not sure really. I just sort of do it. lol.
Which illustrations are your fav? Any that you think I should chuck?
