@Dragon-Snapper *looks at crazy people and pretends she never does this herself, ever* Welp, I’m late. But the one thing I have to add is pretty boring anyway.
Practice.
Don’t just practice, observe. Begin picking style apart and figuring out what makes it tick. Read books whose style you like, then dissect it and find out why. Become a style geek. It’s worth the effort, believe me. đ Once you know why something works, you can figure out how to use it effectively.
@shannon Thanks!
IMMA KAPEEFER! Til we're old and gray!

@dragon-snapper Just thought of something I forgot to mention. My brain has been on vacation recently, and my elbow has been filling in. I have fired my elbow for forgetting things, and my brain is back in charge. What I wanted to say is to find your absolute favorite things about your writing, and your least favorite thing. For example, my favorite things about my writing are clever descriptions, (Although âcleverâ isnât exactly my strong suit đ ) and strong character voice, and my least favorite thing is when I overuse words. When you write something you feel doesnât fit your style, look to see if youâve incorporated your favorite things, and if youâve done you least favorite thing. Donât use your favorite things if theyâre not applicable, or if you feel you would be overusing them, but if they would go nicely in your scene, go for it. And if you see your least favorite thing, ATTACK IT. And @kate-flournoyâs advice is worth its weight in gold. Use it use it use it. đ
