"When in doubt, eat cheese crackers."-me to my charries who don't even know about cheese crackers
March 7, 2025 at 12:45 pm #199341Hmm. So what might be confusing?
You want to try and bounce your thoughts off of me?

March 7, 2025 at 1:01 pm #199344I’m not sure if this is what it is, but you said the Empire doesn’t take its own people to be slaves, yet there are two Imperials in the “care” (read as “horrific torture” lol) of a slave trader (that might not even be Imperial?) I feel like more people would ask questions, or at least be curious. The soldier that’s bribed into not saying anything made sense in that regard.
I also feel like it’s kinda strayed off the “they’re being killed for their faith” and is more “we’re torturing them cause we can.” Which might not be a bad thing, but after they were all like “We only serve the True God!” and he was like “Well now you serve me.” it kinda got left by the wayside that the reason he doesn’t like them is cause they’re Christians. Now it just seems like he hates them just because.
Maybe I’m wrong. I’m probably wrong. But either way, something was nagging at me so I tried to figure out what it was.

Yes…. but the only time they were seen was in Clonabay, and i mentioned the amount of different cultures that are all mixed in there. No one is really noticing anything in that city. Ya know? Plus, Leon and Rolf are in such a bad state that the people of the Empire would have to give them a double glance before recognizing their heritage, and slaves are not really to be looked at. They are too far beneath the social structure.
Hassan hates them because he’s got a grudge against them. He doesn’t care who or what they served, they ruined his day and now they’re going to pay for it.
You know, that kind of thing really did happen. And those captured had to figure out how to live out their faith when it wasn’t directly being challenged, yet they were in an awful situation as a result of actions they made because of what they believed…..
Make sense?

I wouldn’t.

March 7, 2025 at 1:12 pm #199349What… who gave you a gun, anyway? This is a medieval world. The best you should have is a sword.

March 7, 2025 at 1:13 pm #199350So, no one would look twice at a dirty slave even when slavery has just been abolished?

March 7, 2025 at 1:17 pm #199351Um, I’m threatening Alec and his world totally has guns.
So, no one would look twice at a dirty slave even when slavery has just been abolished?
IN ONE TOWN!
The so they shut down the main market that reached the inland. This would still be going on in coastal towns, but that town reached a bigger part of the Empire and also had a trade centered around the games. Walter can only make choices that effect his town.

March 7, 2025 at 1:25 pm #199352@ellette-giselle makes sense. I still feel like something’s not right, but maybe I’m just looking for little tells you’ve put in your other stories when the main characters get captured/executed that aren’t there in this one, and that’s throwing me off.

March 7, 2025 at 1:26 pm #199353So now you stole a gun from me?
Well, it’s my world, so it’s my gun. And since I’m its author, I say it’s out of bullets. 😝
*makes another attempt to steal Leon and Rolf from you*
Okay. I feel like that wasn’t really clear . . . but then again, we did get a warning that the next town would be dark, so I guess that was it. I forgot that the governor’s power only extended to a small area.

March 7, 2025 at 2:21 pm #199357Hmm. I guess we’ll have to see.
Fine then!!
*pulls out dagger, grabs Alec, and holds blade to his throat.* BACK OFF!!
yeah, we’ll have to see what happens.

*straps on several guns and bolts. Snatches Alec and slams him against the wall.*Girls are weird.

March 7, 2025 at 2:42 pm #199360For some reason I started to imagine Hassan as Middle Eastern when you mentioned his name. Probably wearing a turban of sorts.
The men forced him to his feet and dragged his arms up and apart, lashing them to the branches.
So, it’s basically crucifixion, except you don’t get the nails, and you get to stand on the ground. That’s got to be a ‘fun’ experience.
I’m kind of wondering what’s going through Rolf’s head right now. He’s still kind of new to this, even if he has been a Christian for half a year now. Then he felt God calling him to go, and now he’s stuck as a slave or something. Also, in the towns where people were saved, it was mainly Julian, Leon, and Aelic who had ‘spotlight’ moments in this. Rolf might be questioning his role in all this now and why he had to come.
This section, good for the characters? No. Good for character development and overall story? Yes.
