Ah, conlangs. I couldn’t resist the urge to comment on this… excuse my rambling.
I’ve created a couple that almost work, they just need larger lexicons. I always make the sentence structures and writing systems but never the words… XD I love thinking about phonology and grammar… I’ve got like five “conlangs” that are just interesting sound collections lolol.
I like to think about the most random language related things and then I expand them into full crazy conlangs. A lang that mainly uses /t/ or /s/ (my conlang Shuitse)? Having polite or impolite versions of the same word (my Chabben)? A writing system made to be carved in antlers (my Edressee)? /tɬ/ and /χ/?
I feel like since my conlangs are just random thoughts that I’ve expanded, they aren’t always connected to my cultures very well… idk, they just kinda float. Could be because they don’t have lexicons, prolly.
Also kinda random, I really like Korean’s SOV structure… and that might be why many of my conlangs are like that, idk XD I like everything about the Korean language lolol. I also like VSO but I think that is one of the rarest of the six sentence structures. Anywayyyy… *tosses puff of glitter and disappears*

April 16, 2026 at 11:54 am #211533Lol. Latin is fascinating.
Collecting slang sounds brilliant and fun. *Takes recommendation* I’ve played with coloquialisms a little, but in a useful way. I shall have to try that.
What’s your favorite word biome so far?
*peers through the glitter*
Wow. Grammar is interesting, but I haven’t done work in it. Your conlags sound lovely. I especially like the antler one.
Like I said, your conlags are fascinating in their randomness, so letting them float around a little isn’t bad. If you did tie them in closer, do you think it would affect/express the local logic patterns?
I have never looked into Korean before. It is fun when the subject-verb stuff can be swapped! Is the sentence structure your faithing, or is there something else that you like better? Or is it too hard to decide?

I just opened a WIP doc, misread a name, and thought a sibling had written some sort of fabulous crossover fanfiction in my WIP doc. I was so happy.
This poor WIP. I preferred a non-existent orphaned fin-fic to it. What a terrible brain-parent.
On other news, Tolkien keeps stealing my character names.

I love collecting ideas from novels published between from the 1910s-50s. Mostly 40s and 50s. I keep notes from them in a notebook and I’ve done this for months; it’s a lot of fun. I often collect dialogue because there’s something very identifiable about fictional dialogue from that time.

At least you are just as bad as the rest of us

I’m sorry… Maybe he’ll give them back?
In all fairness, if it’s a super minor character people won’t remember from LotR, you’re probably fine.

Oh, I like this idea. That is epic. I’ve noticed the distinctiveness in the illustration styles of that time, but hadn’t thought about the lingo. It really is a unique time. Classy and also rugged.

I probably should not be as comforted by that as I am.

He better. It’s very rude.
Lolll. The funny thing is, this has happened since before I knew anything about Tolkien. I opened the Hobbit and was horrified to find one of my completely original place-names there. And now it’s characters. XD
You’re right, though. Elladan didn’t end up in the movie, so it’s not likely people will notice. And I spelled it differently, so there. XD

Published authors have probably felt the same about their stuff. If that’s not comforting, I don’t know what is. 😛
And I spelled it differently, so there. XD
Problem solved

Yes, it turned out well! It boiled quicker than expected, so I was worried creating a grainy texture, but it seems smooth enough. It’s rich so it’ll last us a while.
