Wow… that is complex, but really quite awesome. What is the fourth dimension in your world? After reading The Time Machine, I always viewed the fourth dimension as time…. Or would something from the fourth dimension be like a tesseract?
I am  thoroughly intrigued by your world. 🙂

We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good on, eh?

That’s actually really cool!! See, that clip thingy is something I would totally use, but something I totally do not need, lol. I have too many things in my room. XD

Y’know I rarely read the books that are recommended to me… lol you can tell me who m-bot is. My curiosity is immeasurable.

Grrrrrrr, fine XD. M-bot is essentially an AI who was originally put inside a starfighter. This ship was deserted by its pilot on the planet Detrius for many century’s. Some time later, a group of humans crashed on Detrius after being attacked by what they called the Krell. They built a new civilization there with the ultimate goal of surviving the Krell’s constant attacks. Three generations later, Spensa, the main character, obsessed with being a pilot herself, finds this ancient ship. She eventually figures out how to turn it on, and she meets M-bot. He seemed to have no memory of his past other than what he was sure his pilot ordered him to do when activated… catalog funguses. Spensa spends a lot of the first book trying to convince M-bot that he is clearly a starfighter, but he continues his obsession’s of mushrooms even after he comes to accept what he actually is. So you just kinda reminded me of that. But I still gotta say, you should at least look into some of Sanderson’s writing, he currently is one of the biggest main stream sci fi fantasy authors, and that’s not without good reason. He writes like a mad man, like the kickstarter event he started last year. During covid, he was giving updates on some of his latest projects, which was a lot, then suddenly he came out and announced he actually wrote 5 whole other novels secretly on top of everything else during 2020. And the craziest thing is, is that it’s actually really really good writing! So would you at least be willing to look into it???

I never really get into the super technical stuffs of (is it kinda sci-fi?)

Well yes… but actually no. It is a universe of magic, but well defined magic based off of physical and mathematical principles. So at many points, we at least look like we are in a sci fi setting, but not in the typical sense, because baseline physics are completely different. Other times it looks a lot like a fantasy. it really depends on the era, and the level of understanding people reach at the time. It’s kinda like a cycle within each age, where they start out more looking more like fantasy, then grow into sci fi, then they reset (this is oversimplified of course, but still).

Does the world ever stop changing? A bit like how after pangea split we didn’t get a whole lot more movement? Or will it be forever changing? Also how does the atmosphere change? Like is the air always breathable, or does it’s contents change with the world?

Yes, it will stop eventually. It is a 4 dimensional superstructure of unthinkable scale, but it is still finite. The first stage is the beginning of the world, and the seventh is the end. The structure will have completely passed all the way through the cross section, and in three dimensions it would be perceived as the world shrinking faster and faster, until it completely vanishes. So there is a marked end of the world. After that, the God pair will likely either reuse, or make a new septrum, creating a cycle of infinite creation. As for their children, humanity, I still haven’t fully worked out afterlife stuff yet. It is there, but I’m not sure if I want to get into it or not. It would be cool, but idk. The air is always breathable, it tends to follow the changing gravity fields so that it doesn’t slowly dissipate.

Yes! Interstellar is such a good movie! Christopher Nolan is such a unique director, he really commits with making these worlds feel legit and grounded in science. Have you seen Inception? He gets really crazy with that one.

…hermmmm… yes… kinda. The thing is about maps in this case, is that in some of these worlds, such as Omialia, the third age, map making would be very important, but also extremely difficult. Far beyond that of mapping a 2d Spherical space into 2d Euclidean space. Because in Omialia’s case, your essentially mapping a 3d Euclidean and/or Spherical space into 2d Euclidean space. Dimensional translations are a lot harder because you can’t express it visually in the same way. It wouldn’t just be distortion, there would need to be coded information written onto the map to show 3d coordinates. This is what I basically did with Omialia, where I made a 2d map of Omialia cut in half, then any landmarks and locations of emphasis are placed on the map in the right distance from the center and longitude, then I give a polar coordinate underneath that shows how much you need to rotate that point in 3d space to get the right position. This kinda works, but what about political boundaries that are full 2d spherical surfaces instead of singular locations. This is a particular issue Omialians deal with. You might argue that you could just make a tiny version of Omialia, but then you got problems with not being able to see the inside very well. I’ve wrestled with this for a while, but yes, there are maps, but depending on the age, it’s often hard to create a map that can really project things in a helpful way.

Thanks! As I told Min, the fourth dimension here is spatial, not temporal. There is a temporal dimension, but it’s not the fourth, but I’m not sure if it’s the fifth yet. All a tesseract is, is a 3 dimensional shadow cast from the fourth dimension. You can gain intuition on this again with a 3d – 2d model. Take a light source, and shine it over a glass transparent cube onto a 2d plane. you will see a square within a square with segments connecting them. A tesseract is the same thing, just with a 4d – 3d model. Take a glass transparent hypercube, and a light source, and shine it over a 3d field. You will see a cube within a cube with segments connecting them. So yes, this is a concept of the 4 dimensional space as a spatial model. This works, but I use the cross section model, because that’s direct influence on 3d reality, instead of just a cast shadow.

Thanks again! I’m glad that I was able to catch your eye!

Woah, your worldbuilding is so extensive! Thx for sharing, how long did it take you guys to come up with all of that?

Yeah I gotta say like I’m such a sensitive reader that sci fi is probably off my list… sorry to disappoint XD

Oh! I suppose I am a bit like a m-bot, especially because my name starts with M. I will leave some disgusting mold writing below if you are interested, I relish every gag and wretch it causes.

Layson drops into the erie passageway. He walks with caution, noting the broken lighting and unkept feel of the place. Layson pulls a map from his backpack side pocket, making sure he is on track. Tracing his finger along the map, he nods. This is the end of his 2-day trudge through the murky darkness of the northeastern tunnels. The tunnels are lined with bunker entrances, some better kept than others.

This is as far away from home I’ve ever been.

Layson’s boots splash in the water, echoing down the chamber-like passage.

He squints to read the numbers that mark each door. Layson looks down the line of trapdoor openings. His eyes land on 512. Wooden boards, nailed into place, hold the door tightly shut. Their rotted appearance shows their age. Layson looks for a dry spot to set his bag down on, but finds none. Pulling his pickaxe from his backpack, he wedges it in between the metal and wood. Looking to his side to avoid the splinters, he pushes hard. Layson’s muscles flex in exertion, easing the nails out of their place as the board comes up. He steps back to lean against the mold covered wall. Catching his breath, he waits. The fungal sludge sticks to his shirt as he peels himself from the wall. Layson bears down on the pickaxe again, feeling relief as the nail gives in to the pressure. Layson tosses the board to the side, and wedges his pickaxe into the second board down, using it like a crow-bar. He pushes up at it again, straining to pry out the nails, which are rusted into place.

                    Harder.

                    Press a little harder.

The board eases out, and Layson tosses it to the side. He wipes the sweat from his brow.

This is so much harder to do with my backpack on.

Layson breaks the third board away, allowing it to splash to the ground. Stepping to the side, Layson examines the door. Light colored metal below shows the length of time the boards had been in place. The metal shines with clarity. The dark moldy atmosphere seems to close in, stifling the air. Layson watches closely as the dark grey fungus encloses the clear metal like a glove in a matter of seconds.

It doesn’t leave a single place untouched huh?

Layson looks up at the strings of mold hanging from the upper support beams with utter disgust and pure fascination. He combs one of his callused hands through his bangs.

This place is amazing. But I’d hate to live here.

Getting past his initial disgust, Layson places a hand on the doors handle. He furrows his eyebrows in curiosity at the squishy sound it makes as his hand closes around it. He closes his eyes to muster up the emotional strength to continue. He presses his hand until he feels he has a solid grip around the metal. Opening his eyes again, he winces in disgust. A grey slurry oozes out from underneath the organisms suede like skin, as it breaks from his pressure.

                    Nasty.

Layson plants his feet firmly on the wall, pulling backwards. He lowers his center of gravity towards the ground. Unexpectedly, the door flies open, nearly thrusting his into the sludge below. Layson holds onto the doorhandle for dear life as it swings around, bumping him against the wall. His grip rotates, the slimy mess growing around it making getting a proper hold difficult.

Thanks! Your making me blush:) Me and Princess have been working on it since covid actually, well technically. It was very different then, it started with me dreaming up Omialia actually. I was thinking about different worldbuilding idea for a landscape, and I kept thinking of floating islands, then I kept getting mad at myself, because of how overdone that was, but then, I eventually had the idea of a space of floating islands, then instead of islands, they were planetoids. I continued to grow and build on it, and eventually thought what if these planetoids were actually part of a single 4d object, then It grew from there. Then Princess thought of a world of her own, and then we eventually thought, what if our worlds were part of the same universe, and we never looked back since.

Yeah I gotta say like I’m such a sensitive reader that sci fi is probably off my list… sorry to disappoint XD

No worries! We all have our different strengths, weaknesses, and preferences.

M-bot would definitely be intrigued in learning more about that fungus!

Clearly, water is actually just ice juice. XD

Interesting. So this is a fast growing mold, and it seems to prefer metallic surfaces. He seems to be making a lot of contact with it, is it not harmful in any way? It sounds like the kind of stuff you don’t want in your lungs when it creates spores, and probably not good for the skin, is Layson gonna be ok?

yep, may I have a glass of ice-juice?

Yeah! It’s really fast growing. Basically Layson is a releaser at this point in the story, meaning he helps bunkers that have been barricaded inside from outsiders of opposing political sides. There’s multiple releasers, and they all come the my character Jonathan Ledger to be made aware of jobs in the area. (Jonathan is a mailman, but he travels really far to deliver. It’s kinda different than our mail, he just takes the name of who the mail goes to and he’ll find them himself by word of mouth) He kinda knows everyone, and he knows which bunkers are in need of help. So yeah, nobody wanted to help this bunker because of the mold XD but Layson just loves people and hates to think of them slowly running out of supplies inside. Most releasers are in it for money and recognition, I mean it’s a vital service so you can charge whatever you like. Layson doesn’t have a side, he’ll help anyone. That actually puts him at risk though, because both sides  feel that if you aren’t on there side, you’re against them. He’ll be alright XD I mean as long as he doesn’t eat any of it Ig. Realistically he would be wearing a respirator, but I wrote that awhile ago and wasn’t thinking about that. And once he helps them it’s normal for them to let him stay in somebody house for awhile before he moves on, so yeah he’s able to get whatever help he needs once he helps them.

Cool! That’s so sweet of Layson! Yeah, I would get a respirator. You say they can charge whatever they like, what is the economy at this point, is there a defined currency, or is it just supplies and stuff?

                              Yeah he’s really nice.

In my world any currency is currency, metal coins, paper, from wherever. It’s all worth the same amount, so people weigh it. Something could cost 2 grams of paper money, it wouldn’t matter where the money came from as long as it weighed the same. That being said you can’t just make your own money. The money is all really old, from the various places that existed before the world. I know that was kinda vague, I guess need to think more about it lol. Releasor’s could charge a lot of money for their service, because they are the only ones who offer it. Most won’t care if they ruin the bunkers economy, take too much, or whatever because they’re just going to stay for a week or two, spend their money on supplies, and keep moving on to the next one. I mean Layson’s not like that, but most of them are. Like, they’re generally greedy and unsatisfied in life.

Does your world have a currency?

Is there currency in your world?
