Like – Chronicles of Narnia is a huge part of Christian culture.
This is insulting.

July 24, 2023 at 10:27 pm #152132Maybe it will motivate more people to get rid of Netflix? That’d be a plus.

July 24, 2023 at 10:35 pm #152133I would hope so.
Although, there are some really good old shows on there, and I still use it myself. It’s the new stuff that’s frustrating.
Do you have Netflix?

July 24, 2023 at 10:43 pm #152135@whalekeeper Nah, we got rid of it a while ago. My brother knows how to pirate the good shows. I’m curious though, have you seen the lockwood & co show on there and if so, is it any good?

July 24, 2023 at 11:32 pm #152137…Good? LoOpYLiN’s BrOtHeR is a PiRaTe
And again… good? XD The Lockwood and Co. show is not bad, but it’s definitely aged up a bit.
The aesthetic was really interesting. I liked that. And the entire thing felt darker than the books. Although, sometimes that was a bad thing.
Like, there’s a LOT of language, and some dirty references – like, NOT Christian – but in that, it feels like one of those old movies like Ghostbusters. I can handle that stuff pretty well, since it’s been thrown at me before out on a mission trip before.
It just depends on what you can handle.
Some plotting points could have been written better? As for the characters… they actually did their arcs pretty solid. There was communication, there was conversation, there was tea. A scene with George made me tear up a little XD …Which I did not see coming.
In summary. It’s definitely not appropriate for kids – and some of the humor was again, pretty dirty – but I felt like it was well-written in a lot of ways. Would recommend ONLY if you can handle language, ghosts, gore.

July 25, 2023 at 12:57 am #152140@whalekeeper Thanks for the warning! Don’t worry I’m not at all bothered by language or gore most of the time.
Oh, also, have you seen Hilda? It’s a really good fantasy animated show on Netflix

July 25, 2023 at 9:28 am #152145Lol we pirate Austrian LEGO Masters cuz we can’t watch it any other way in America 😂
Don’t tell anyone, k?? 👀
We got rid or Netflix, and Disney+
Did you know that Disney has this rule that a woman cannot lose a fight to a man in their movies??
Any noun can become a verb if you don't care enough.
July 25, 2023 at 9:34 am #152146Nope, although I like the look of the style! Thanks for the recommendation!
*Gasp*
Actually I’m pretty sure my grandma had a neighbor pirate all the DVDs she let us watch during the summer. She kept saying ‘I had a friend make them for me,’ and I was always like, 😬🧐

“Everything is a mountain”
July 25, 2023 at 9:38 am #152148July 25, 2023 at 9:49 am #152149So Hello 👋
I just wanted to give my two cents on the whole Narnia thing (which people seem to be really up in arms about)
I was reading some news things and saw that Greta Gerwig (of Barbie move and Little Women fame) was going to be directing some Narnia material (can’t remember if it was movies or tv shows) based off of the first 2 books in the Narnia series for Netflix. As someone who liked the Gerwig movies I have seen (little women and Barbie) and appreciates her filming styles I was very exited.
I found this to be a very different reaction to this news than highscribeofaetherium
In my best knowledge I wouldn’t describe Gerwig as anti-christian. Although she is not Christian she did go to Catholic school so I feel like she has probably read the Narnia books. Additionally in the few interviews I have found of her talking about her upcoming Narnia adaptations she did not say anything about significantly changing the books from their source material. Here’s a quote form one of those interviews:
“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it, but I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start,”
Hybridlore’s quote
Netflix’s reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia should not stick to the original ending as it may alienate viewers due to its heavy religious undertones.
The current fantasy landscape calls for refreshing twists and turns, so Netflix must carefully decide which parts of the source material to keep and which to get rid of.
Does not come from Gerwig. Instead it comes from Screen Rant (correct me if I’m wrong but I found those exact words in a screen rant article) which is an entertainment website that offers news in the fields of television, films, video games, and film theories. This would be the view of one writer and their opinions of what should be done to the Narnia stories.
I feel like this is in a way a good way to showcase the way that we can easily be swung to an extreme or manipulated by incomplete or partially correct information. If earlier I had of seen the initially post on here about Narnia then I feel I would have been upset to however since I knew it would be directed by Gerwig I was like that wait Greta Gerwig’s anti-Christian something that didn’t seem super write to me so I decided to look more into the whole thing.
Also on a second hand side of things I feel like in the last couple of posts there has been a lot of hate aimed at Netflix, media companies, and unknowingly Gerwig, I don’t really think that is right or showing the love of God. Jesus said to love our enemies and I get it if what you see someone is doing as being bad or threatening to your childhood but that doesn’t excuse you to be mean to them. Also on a side note please don’t pirate material. Pirating is basically stealing as you are taking something and viewing it without paying money to those who created it. If you want to try to rationalize it as it okay to pirate this because Netflix is bad and unchristian your logic is flawed because even though Netflix won’t get any money the people that made the movie (writers, directors, producers, actors) won’t get any money and as these projects are usually quite big probably at least one person on that team was a Christian.
July 25, 2023 at 10:25 am #152150Looking back on my post I can see I was not in a good mood last night XD
I read through some articles, and I do not have any grudges against Gerwig specifically, as I have actually been looking forward to seeing the Barbie movie, and I think she has a great style, similar to Series of Unfortunate Events. When I saw she would be directing this show, my opinion was swayed some.
I am frustrated more at the system, because even though as you said there will probably be Christian people on the team, I have seen a downward trend on Netflix and I don’t want to see any bad stuff on this show. I want to believe the show will be good, but what with all that has been going on, it’s hard to believe they won’t put suggestions of modern worldviews in it. I am not angry at any person in particular, just at the fact that I haven’t had anything new and quality to watch since, probably forever.
So, in conclusion, since thinking about it a little longer I am going to wait on this show, and hope it will respect the books for what they meant to convey.
Thank you for calling out my dramatic initial response… I must make a mental note never to make opinionated posts like that after nine o’clock XD
(Side note, pirating is wrong and I have never encouraged my grandma to get any new DVDs… and she never would, anyway)

“Everything is a mountain”
July 25, 2023 at 10:34 am #152152I did not intend any hate towards Netflix or Disney, or any of the people working for them or directors. I apologize. I will mention that Netflix has had some shows that were truly Evil in the past, but I don’t think those shows are on there anymore and I know it doesn’t have any connection to this conversation. Disney really does do some ridiculous things, such as the rule I mentioned. I don’t approve of many of the things they do, but I certainly do not harbor any feelings of hate against them.
I didn’t have very much information about it and everything I learned was from my dad, whom I find to be a very trustworthy informant. I don’t know exactly what he saw about it, so maybe he didn’t see everything you did. He did say that Gerwin was against Christianity and an ultra-feminist. Again, I don’t know where he got this stuff.
But really, I don’t feel like we can trust things like Narnia in the hands of people who don’t share the worldview of the author. People who stand at odds with the very core of this book and everything it stands for.
Also, on pirating, we don’t pirate Disney or Netflix or stuff we’d be able to watch. It is literally impossible to get Australian Lego Masters any other way in America, and we wouldn’t be able to watch it anyways and it’s not like we’re avoiding paying the producers to watch it.
I can be really negative about this kind of stuff and can easily get kind of annoyed about it. And maybe it will turn out really good, in which case, I stand corrected. And Gerwig’s quote from the interview is a good sign. If she truly cares about these books, I have more hope. I second what Whalekeeper said. They are almost certainly going to insert modern ideas that go against the Christian worldview. And I also agree, I don’t feel like anything of quality is being created.
Thank you, I really needed to be reminded, especially not go get into a dangerous area of hating the companies, and thus, indirectly, the people.
Looking back, this looks like I’m really desperate to justify myself 😂 Please don’t read this wrong.
Wow, I never knew I could succumb to internet rage
Lol it happens to everyone, @whalekeeper.
I got on here for a half an hour to force myself to do some writing. Instead, I wrote this for an hour.Any noun can become a verb if you don't care enough.

Well… I shouldn’t use it as an excuse 🙂
