š Appreciator of BooksNovember 25, 2023 at 12:54 am #166783It was awesome!!! The climax felt felt like a continuous streak of mind-blowing unfolding and action. I’m currently wondering about Dalinar’s relationship with the Honor shard at this point though, because he ascended, but not completely? Or he’s somehow sharing it with the StormFather?

Yeah, the way that it jumped between perspectives worked really well. A movie version of this scene would just beĀ incredible!
What do you think about whatās happening with Renarin? That was one of the most surprising reveals in my opinion.
Iām currently wondering about Dalinarās relationship with the Honor shard at this point though, because he ascended, but not completely? Or heās somehow sharing it with the StormFather?
(I donāt know anything more about this than you do, so none of this is a spoiler.)
I think it has something to do with the fact that Honorās shard was splinteredā-it isnāt in one piece. The Stormfather is the biggest piece though. One thing I find interesting is that for some reason most people seem to think that Kaladin will become Honor, even though as it stands now, Dalinar is the most likely candidate.

I know! The amount of purely cinematic moments throughout the series is incredible, but this would be an epic avengers style climax in theaters, only better.

I find it interesting. I didn’t expect it, but we knew something weird has been going on for quite a while, and Sanderson just has been giving crumbs the whole time until now. It seems that it’s a spren corrupted by the unmade that is defecting, in which case, it could be good? If nothing else, it has given Renarin and edge that he at least for now can use as a force for good.

Yeah, that seems to fit what he was saying when he said it was honors remnant, the StormFather, and him. When Dalinar did ascend in that moment, he didn’t say “I am Honor” when asked, he said “I am Unity”, so if he does fully ascend, is it possible that the shard will change in title, sort of like Harmony did? I’ve debated whether it would be Dalinar or Kaladin myself. I think they both could do it, but I like Dalinar more, because it fits his arc’s focus. It could work for Kaladin, but that would also make me sad.

November 25, 2023 at 10:41 am #166811Here are two interesting tidbits Iāve been speculating on. See what you think.
In one of the cabinets in Urithiru, a gemstone message from an ancient Truthwatcher says āI foresaw this.ā Thatās not the whole thing, but itās the important part.
Secondly, what about that part when sodium screams āWE KILLED YOUā? Who is āweā?
I have my own theory in regards to the second one, but what do you think?

That is a very important point. It makes sense that seeing the future isn’t necessarily a corrupt quality, as that’s a shared ability of all the shards as far as I know. Yet the spren is corrupt regardless, so they assume that’s what tells him the future, but there’s definitely a lot more going on.
Secondly, what about that part when sodium screams āWE KILLED YOUā? Who is āweā?
At the time I assumed Odium just meant his armies, but that may not be the case. It could be interesting if another shard was involved, perhaps autonomy, but I don’t know.

Yeah, definitely interesting!
There are so many small and random details that I’m curious about after OB. Like with Eshonai’s death. Was the thing Venli saw near her, Timbre? How does Timbre tie with Eshonai if it’s just a spren? Why does Timbre know Rhythms?
How are all of the Heralds lives connected, and what was special about the blade that killed the Herald of Kings?
And even with his highly advanced intelligence, what made it so Taravangian could foresee so much? Is there a form of Investiture that he’s accessing each time he’s ‘smart’?
Then finally, why couldn’t I see more of Shallan’s and Adolin’s wedding? I mean come on! I waited so long for that.

I’m going to assume that doesn’t account the one about their wedding though š

Yet the spren is corrupt regardless, so they assume thatās what tells him the future, but thereās definitely a lot more going on.
So the weird thing is, Brandon Sanderson confirmed that Renarin is the first person to bond a corrupt spren. It seems to be implied that his future sight is only because of the corruption, and not a normal Truthwatcher ability. But then what is going on with this ancient Truthwatcher? If he isnāt corrupted, thenĀ isĀ future sight a normal Truthwatcher power? The full message doesnāt seem to support this, because the Truthwatcher seems to not want anyone else to know.
At the time I assumed Odium just meant his armies, but that may not be the case. It could be interesting if another shard was involved, perhaps autonomy, but I donāt know.
My personal speculation is that āyouā refers not to Honor, but to Adonalsium, and that āweā refers to all the Shards. That would imply that Dalinar was somehow closer to becoming Adonalsium or something than anyone has before. That seems a bit strange, since he isnāt even in possession of a single entire Shard. Not sure if this theory has any merit, but I think there must be something significant about that line.

Speaking of the Heralds, Iām pretty sure that by the end of RoW, all of them will have made an appearance. (Not a spoiler, cause for most of them it isnāt obvious or even confirmed.) So keep an eye out for them! Herald-spotting is one of my favorite pastimes!
