      @godlyfantasy12. @elishavet-pidyon. @koshka. @joy-caroline. @lightoverdarkness6. @rose-everdeen. @lydia-s. @gracie-j. @anatra23. @anyone-else-that-has-thoughts. @please-help-XD.

Okay…so…heh…I had an idea come to me this morning and…well…it won’t go away.

I think it will stay as a side project unless God tells me differently, but…hehe…it won’t go away. XD

But I will need help and, well, thoughts.

Because I am a complete and total Historical Fiction writer that has dabbled in Fantasy from time to time, and have no experience in this genre, and I’ve only read one, yes, ONE, book in it.

So…it kinda makes sense with what I’ve been learning in my Teen Sunday School…

      …and this idea won’t go away…

      …but I was like: “NO! I can’t do that!”…

      …guess I’m afraid to…heh…

…but…I have an idea about a Biblical Fiction book, possibly series…

      …about…

      The Life of Joseph.

And it may need to be a series, because there is a lot to cover.

But me and my Sunday school class have been going through Joseph’s story, and I’ve learned and noticed so much that I hadn’t before! It has been absolutely amazing, and I love and appreciate Joseph’s story so much more now!

But…I’m kinda scared, just being honest, y’all. xD

I guess I’m afraid to get things wrong, it being Biblical and all…

…but this idea won’t go away.

Is it just my fear stopping me? I really just don’t know. But what I do know is that I love the book (series, probably, lol.) already.

So, as everyone guesses Joseph was around 17 when he was sold away by his brothers, my plan is that the series will likely begin shortly before he’s sold into slavery, prob when he talks about his dreams, somewhere around in there, and it will end after Joseph finally reveals himself to his brothers and, even more than likely, not until after his family all comes to Egypt.

And I even have ideas for how to write some of the brothers, like Reuben, Judah, Simeon, Levi, Benjamin, etc, his father Jacob, and even Potipher and Potipher’s wife.

But anyways…yeah…is it just my fear talking to me making me doubt this? 😅 Because I love the idea but also feel terrified…heh.

But any thoughts so far? 🙂

@freedomwriter76 I know a GREAT fiction book for you to read about Joseph’s story! It’s called The Dreamer, the Schemer and the Robe, and is part of a series that follows a group of animals on a mission for God, so it’s got quite a bit of fantasy, but I believe the author did quite a bit of research on the reality of it all.

Also, I don’t know what this next book is called, but I remember a creation-believing archaeologist wrote an article in a magazine I read about needing an up-to-date chronology for the Egyptian culture, because the current one we have had some really skewed dates or something and we only have tiny pieces of the original work they based it off of. So he’s trying to find a better version to base his studies off of.

@keilah-h. Girl!!! Thank you so much for the suggestion!

And yes, I believe I know who you’re talking about! Can’t remember his name, but I’ve seen the documentary!

And I’m currently taking Biblical Archaeology too for school, so the writer of the book, David Down, is talking about that too! In fact, listening to something by him for school is when the idea actually hit me, heh. XD

@freedomwriter76 No problem! And yeah, I’ve read one of that guy’s books! I don’t remember if it was his article, though.

First of all, I LOVE that idea.

Second, before I get into my advice for you (or just what I think, idk XD) is your idea biblical fantasy or just straight biblical fiction? The impression I’m getting is that it’s just straight biblical fiction, but wanted to clarify since you mentioned fantasy in the beginning of your post.

                  ANYWAYS.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this to you before, but I actually write biblical fiction as well as historical. Where Faith Remains has been taking up most of my time at this point in my writing life – and obviously it will take up even more now that it’s an 18-book family saga 😅 – but at some point I plan to take a break from the Russell & Eliza series in order to write the first book of my Apostle Paul series.

The idea for this series has been living in my head for . . . what . . . like three years now, I think? The series focuses completely on Paul and his sister, Temira – she’s the main character in all of the books. Thus far this series is a trilogy. I love my Paul series and its characters soooooo much, and I still daydream about it all the time. I think after I write book #6 in the Russell & Eliza series, I’ll take a break to write and publish the first book in my Paul series. Anywayyyysss, all this to say that I am absolutely OBSESSED with biblical fiction and I am soooooo thrilled you’re thinking of writing one! We need more good bib fic.

I was going to, you know, write out a whole bunch of tips for you in this post, but it would be super long . . . and then I remembered an article I wrote for KP awhile back that’s all about writing bib fic! This article is full of allll the advice I would give anyone who wants to try their hand at the genre. Here’s the link to it, and hope it helps!

Girl!!! That idea sounds so cool! I would totally read it. I think you would do great!! I mean, you obviously are good at researching from all the details you put in your Historical Novels, I think you could do the research for sure. And you’re great at writing! So if God gave you this idea, I’m sure he’s gonna help you achieve it :).

And thank you so much for all that info!!!! Like, thank you sooooo much!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

And that article is now in my bookmarks. 😉

And YES, I’ve heard of your Biblical Fiction trilogy! (I kinda checked out the website for a WHILE before joining, and I’ve read your articles before, lol. XD) I absolutely LOVE it!!!

And girl…that’s a lot of books for the Russell & Eliza series. xD

. Aww, girl, thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I’m falling more and more in love with it every minute, lol. XD

I really feel like it’s from God, and my Mom said the same when I told her the idea a little while ago. So, when I’m getting aggravated with my main things, I’ll work on it, or, if God wants it to be my main project, I’ll do that too! 😀 Currently doing some research for it, using the Bible as my main source! 😉

And thank you! I’m not sure how many people will notice all the Historical details, but I’m glad you have! 😀

. Thank you, girl!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Yes, amen, sister! Praying is the best advice anyone can ever give! (I’ll be sure to pray for you and your writing!)

Totally understand books not working out at the time. XD I’m currently kind of at that point, and that’s only one reason why I’m loving this idea.

Really, it may seem scary, but having a side project to do, like another book or even a fanfiction, is great to have for when your normal book isn’t working out.

                        It’s helped me IMMENSELEY!!!

(And don’t worry, I’m still gonna try to keep writing the Marvel AU. 😀 )

                          @freedomwriter76

Agh, Biblical fiction, woohoo! That’s actually where my heart is when it comes to writing.

Personally, I have dreams of writing a historical fiction trilogy based on the life of Simon Peter. I prayed a lot about it, and I think it’s something the Lord wants me to do. Because of how huge a project it is (the amount of research I’m gonna have to do… *faints*), I haven’t started yet. Maybe next year!

All that to say, I feel you. Biblical fiction is DAUNTING.

I think the most important parts of writing Biblical fiction are a good understanding of the historical time period and a solid understanding of the Bible Itself. The Bible doesn’t give us all the details, so there are parts that are left to our imaginations. We just have to make sure that we don’t take creative liberty too far. Everything that happens should make sense and not affect/play into the subsequent events. They shouldn’t downplay later events either.

One example that I think takes creativity too far is The Chosen, an Angel Studios series (in case you don’t know, it’s a show that chronicles the life of Christ). In one episode, they have Jesus taken prisoner by the Romans before the Sermon on the Mount. This isn’t hinted at in any of the Gospels, and it takes away from the subsequent arrest at the Garden of Gethsemane. All the added drama also gives people a false idea of the Bible; they might be bored or disappointed when they read the actual stories. I believe we do have to add scenes to fill in gaps between events, but we just have to be careful how we do it (As a disclaimer, I don’t mean to offend anyone who enjoys that show! I’ve definitely enjoyed parts, but I can’t support it wholeheartedly since it uses so much creative license).

So, that’s my two cents on Biblical fiction! If you feel that the Lord wants you to do it, He’ll give you everything you need for it! Titus: A Comrade of the Cross is phenomenal Biblical fiction. It balances everything—filling in gaps, playing into Biblical events, etc—PERFECTLY (there’s an audio drama you can buy, too, if you’d rather  listen than read). Oh, and you haven’t already seen it, Timothy Mahoney has a REALLY good documentary called “Patterns of the Exodus” that talks about Joseph and the Egyptian famine. If you need historical information, I’d definitely suggest checking that out. Commentaries can be helpful, too, as can lexicons. 🙂

Anyway, I hope some of that made sense. I know you’ll do awesome with this. Can’t wait to see where this takes you! Go get ‘em, girl!!! <333

And your trilogy sounds sooooo cool! Simon Peter has been my favorite disciple for a while now, lol. XD

Thank you for the advice, girl!!! The good thing is I love History and the Bible, and especially when I can combine the two, it makes me even happier, lol. XD

And I understand what you mean! I love The Chosen, but that was the part I probably had the most problems with, heh.

And I need to check out those resources! 😀

@lightoverdarkness6 @freedomwriter76 Yeah, the Chosen is great!!!! Although yes, I can see why some people could have problems with that part. Personally, I could see that it wasn’t a part of the real narrative, and I don’t think it would’ve been connected to the Gethsemane arrest in any way even if it were real. But I get your reasoning.

As for beta readers…..My dad sometimes, my mom only if I know she’ll understand what I write (because she wouldn’t be able to make head or tail of some of my fanfictions). My brother on rare occasions, because he usually heavily criticizes my work……..
