@joy-caroline
Hi Joy! Or would you prefer JC? 🙂 Anyway, this response is late, but I plan on going by traditional publishing all the way. And the reason for this used to be because I didn’t want to be just another voice in a sea of them, trying to find an audience. And while that is still part of it, several other things play into my decision since I’m making writing a lifelong commitment. Traditional also offers more time to write instead of having to spend time marketing and heavy publicizing. But I don’t think either publishing method is better or worse than the other, like you said, both have pros and cons. It’s just for me that the pros to traditional outweigh the cons, but that is just me:)

Hey, Abigail! Whatever ya want to call me is good with me. Most people around here call me JC now, though – I think it was @issawriter7 who started it. XD
Ah, those are good reasons, and probably some of the top reasons traditional is still my vision as of right now. I believe, though, that trad publishers still expect the author to do a lot of the publicizing. But agents organize the book tours and signings and all that buzz, so that does make it a lot easier to get your name out there!
On a side note, it’s great to talk to you again! I feel like we haven’t “seen” each other in a while. XD

XD Well, JC sounds awesome. Kinda like CS in Clive Staples Lewis or JRR like Tolkien 🙂 Oh yes, that is true. You are still expected to publicize; one of my poems is going to appear in a Chicken Soup For The Soul book, and they’re already sending me information, informing me on all the hows and whens and dos and don’ts of what they want me to do, (but I’d honestly prefer it over having to do it without knowing all these things that they send first). So that’s definitely a big plus to traditional.
It’s great to talk to you again too! I know right? It seems like it’s been quite a while since we’ve ‘seen’ each other; remember back when you, Issa, and I did timed writing for almost a half-hour at a time? Seems like that was a while ago now, (nowadays I sadly can’t make the wonderful invites to sprint, but hey, maybe I’ll be able to sometime again:)

Ik, that’s what I like about that nickname! XD But when I publish, I’m planning to go by Joy C. Woodbury. I like the first name and then initial thingy.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I’m so excited for u! I love Chicken Soup for the Soul. I think I have all of them, lol. Or most of them. Please do let me know when the book is released! I think you should publish a poetry book of your own – you are awesome at poetry. 😉 But yes, that is a plus that trad publishers will tell you what to do. With self publishing, it’s all up to you how you get the word out there.
Oh yeaaah! That was fun. I’m actually crazy busy this summer as well, so I’m struggling to hold on to my daily writing time. I don’t have a ton of time to chat while writing, sadly. But I’m doing Camp NaNo with Kadotake and Lexi this July. Just to plan out a new novel, though – probably won’t get around to writing the actual first draft until August or even September.

Ooh, I love that! ‘Joy C. Woodbury’ looks, sounds, and is, awesome, (I agree, the middle initial thing is pretty cool).
Thank you! 😀 Me too, I love CSFTS. I think my favorite books have gotta be the ones for writers, (have you read those? I think there’s only two of them so far). My sister prefers the cat compilations which also happens to be the genre my poem is in. Of course! The book is scheduled for release, September 14th of this year at retailers as far as I’ve been informed.
Aw thanks! That’s a huge compliment; maybe someday I’ll give it a shot, who knows?:)Well, that’s still good that you’re managing to hold onto a writing time, (R.I.P. to mine a long time ago) I mostly grab a spare hour here and there or walk or stay up too late XD Usually the latter… I should re-create a writing time. Definitely admire you for keeping yours. It seems to me that things get even busier in the summer than they do during the school year somehow.
Hey! That’s awesome *high fives* that you, Alexa and Kadotake will be doing Camp Nano! I wish I could join y’all, but I may be pushing my luck with two this year XD But you know, I put together a post of Nano survival tips back in April when me and Alexa did it, perhaps you’d want to look it over? It’s mostly just notes based from my NaNoWriMo book by Chris Baty, (the founder of NaNoWriMo). Oh yes, and if you don’t mind, what is your Nano Title on the site? That way I can find and send a friend invite to your board:)July 2, 2021 at 2:11 pm #101680Anonymous- Rank: Eccentric Mentor

Thanks!
Oh, yes, I’ve read the ones for writers! They’re awesome! Ooh, I cannot WAIT to read your poem! And you totally should give that a shot someday!
Oh, yes, I relate. It is really tough to find time for writing. Honestly, both the school year and the summer are super busy. During the school year, I’m going to school (obvi lol), doing homework, working, getting home late at night, participating in class office and clubs and sports… and in the summer I’m getting everything done that I don’t have time for during school. I love everything I do during the school year and the summer, but it def challenges us to make time for our writing!
Thanks! And yes, I’d love to see that post – send it over! I actually don’t have an account on the actual NaNo website, though, lol.
