Dusty and Liko waved to the passengers as they walked, scampered, and slid off towards the commons. Liko then scooped up his jiggly companion and began walking to his own separate employee room.
Alright, calling it a full room might have been an exaggeration. It was more like a closet. A cot was shoved into one corner along with a mini fridge that doubled as a nightstand. Several pictures, doodles, and magazine scraps were stuck to the wall above the cot with magnets. On the opposite wall, there was a tiny round window showing the night sky outside which he would soon be sailing through. Beneath the window was a small table and a seat which both could be folded up into the wall.
All passengers make sure you are properly strapped in as we are about to launch.
Liko dropped Dusty onto the ground and sat down in the seat. He then buckled himself into a harness that was attached to the seat and wall behind him.
Launching in: ten… nine…
Tiny ripples spread through Dusty’s body as the ship began to hum.
eight… seven… six…
Liko suddenly felt like he was forgetting something.
five… four…
He tried to remember. Had he dropped something?
three…
His eyes suddenly widened.
Two…
“Oh, shoot.”
One.
“Everyone wants to save the world, but no one wants to help mom with the dishes.”
He never fixed that leaky pipe he was working on. It’s gonna leave a big mess in that hall and his boss is gonna be mad (whoever that is).
