*the doctor arrives and groans loudly* @daeus you need to keep your hands away from @kate-flournoy. She gets very into the mood of stamping and slamming things and doesn’t look out for hands on paper.

@bluejay Quite true. Maybe you should give her psychiatric treatment.

Hey everyone, I noticed something else about reactions. Before I had stated that a person’s reactions show a lot about themselves. But I also noticed that a person’s reactions can sometimes be used to show more about the person being reacted to. For instance, I just wrote this courtroom scene where I had the prosecuting barrister giving this rousing condemnatory piece of oratory against the accused. It came to a part where I wrote this, “The barrister glared magnificently at Horace and his mother. They cowered before his glance and hid their faces.” Now something jumped out at me about that. When I said the barrister, “Glared magnificently”, I gave a pretty good impression of his face, but when I described the reactions of the victims of that glare, it became a lot more real. It added punch, meaning, and depth.

The more I think about reactions, the more I realize that they are vital for strong characters and scenes.

Doesn’t even slam my hand? It must be especially accurate.
