      Hello!

      Who else loves this book?  It’s one of my favourites…The characters are so real, the theme is masterfully woven throughout the novel, and it’s so entertaining…I love it!!!  🙂

      Have any of you read this?

        @eamily I’ve yet to read it, but my friend loves it, and none of her recommendations have fallen short, so I have good reason to believe I’ll enjoy it. 🙂

        By the way, thanks for including me in these books discussions. I love talking books! 😀

          I love that book!! It’s one of my all-time favorites. Have you watched the movie (the BBC version)? If not I would recommend it even though it’s several hours longer than most movies (it was a show at first). It sticks SO closely to the book that it’s wonderful.  Mr. Darcy is far and away my favorite character. He’s so well written, but I also really like Elizabeth. All her characters are so interesting though, even if you don’t like them at all *cough cough* Mrs. Bennit *cough *.

            @emily-d No, I’m afraid I haven’t read this one either. I have a friend who adores Jane Austen books, but as for myself, I’m not particularly fond of books with a strong romantic slant.

            Oh by the way, thank you for introducing me to Sigmund Brouwer! 😃 I received one of his books for Christmas (Robot Wars: Death Trap) and I enjoyed it so much I decided to purchase the rest! I like his fast-paced style.

              @emily-d 😀 Yeah, I have read it

              I was at first expecting to completely hate it

              But, I actually really like it

              Elizabeth is a great character, and the plot is interesting, and Jane Austen’s writing is really sophisticated and intelligent

              It’s lacking all of its dragons, and 100% percent of its epic battle scenes, but it’s still quite entertaining. What made it great for me was when I realized that it’s actually a satire- of aristocratic England and its convoluted social practices and obsessiveness with self-image and fortunes.

              After that, every little detail about the aristocratic social customs Austen shared was a delightful little barb at them that she let the reader help throw- and those, mixed in with the great characters and character arcs, made it an amazing book for me

                @emily-d  I got through like a third of the book before I… got bored of it. It’s intriguing, and very well-written, but there’s barely any action, just talking. And talking. And talking. Is suppose if I read the rest of it I would change my mind…… But it’s been awhile, and I think I’d have to start over at the very beginning.

                So yeah, Pride and Prejudice is very good, yet I personally prefer action books :-/

                You can pronounce it however you want.

                  @emily-d I had to read this book for school (i’m homeschooled), and I have to admit I opened it expecting to dislike it, because I didn’t really want to read romantic books. But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the wit of the characters (Elizabeth is my fave). I’m probably gonna read other books by Jane Austen in the future.😉

                     Yay!  Which movie did you like (I think they’re all BBC)?…My favourite is the one where David Rintoul plays Mr. Darcy (the 1980 version) but I also enjoyed the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle one which is a bit later.  I haven’t seen any of the others.

                    @mariposa
                     I’m glad you enjoyed Sigmund Brouwer’s book!  The deceiving thing about Pride & Prejudice is that although it’s classed as a romance, it’s not mushy or anything.  It’s more about the growth of the two main characters: the character arcs are amazing!

                     It’s very hard’s it not to like, isn’t it?  🙂

                      @emily-d Yes! I love this book. The dialogue is just…the wittiest thing ever. But because of the lack of action, I definitely like the movie better (1995 version. It’s the only way to go). My mom and I like watching Jane Austen movies after all my brothers have gone to bed. Only she tend to fall asleep. 😉

                          @WaterLily  Hey!  Yeah, I love the dialogue…lots of great lessons in there 😉  So, have you seen the 1980 version?

                          @KBallen
                           Wow I bet that being in a play about it was uh-mazing!!!!  No, I haven’t read any other of Austen’s books, but Emma and Sense And Sensibility are on my To-Read list.  🙂  Have you read any of the others?

                          And have either the movies of Emma (the version with Gwyneth Paltrow and Toni Collette) and Sense And Sensibility (the Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant one)?  They’re awesome too!

                          I’m a bit crazy about really good old-fashioned movies 😛

                            Yes! Pride and Prejudice!!!!!!! 😀 It is definitely my top 10 list. I LOVE Elizabeth’s wit. The characters are so masterfully written, I can only hope to accomplish even a fraction of that level. Also, I love the formal manner of speaking. Me and my friend will sometimes text in that style, all formal, 18th century. It’s the funnest thing ever. :p

                              @emily-d No, I haven’t seen the 1980 version. Is it good?

                                I really enjoyed that book! After growing up on only the old movie and kind of disliking Darcy, the books gave me a better perspective of him and his change. It doesn’t seem so sudden and fake in the book as it did in the movie to me. XD

                                Jane Austen’s wit is very entertaining too. <3

                                  @waterlily  Yes, Yes, Yes!!!  It’s my favourite version that I’ve seen…it sticks closer to the characters out of the two that I’ve seen.  🙂
