Do you guys ever get presque vu, or “tip of the tongue,” when you write or talk? It’s like,

“What’s the right word to describe this?! I know it’s an adjective/verb/whatever but I can’t remember the stinkin’ word! ARRGH!”

Am I the only one? And how do I conquer it?

I get that all the time! Usually I just go looking up words that I know are close to what I want and I either find the word or describe it when I write.

There’s a term for it???? I need to remember this. And you’re like, “It starts with this, or it means something like this, but not quite.” I just remembered I actually found a site that helps you find the word you’re looking for.

*one quick search later* Here it is!

@dekreel Yes, that happens to me all the time…usually I use a thesaurus to find the right word. The funny thing is that sometimes I will find it, then realize that it wouldn’t even work after all! It stinks!

@dekreel Yeah. You’re definitely not the only one. I’ve dealt with this quite often, as I often make excuses not to read and thus a truncated vocabulary. However, I’ve begun making Quizlet sets with different and more advanced words from school vocabulary. The more you study words the more words come to your mind, I have found. It’s not a ‘tried and true’ thing yet, but I’m giving it a go. Just study the words.

@shannon That happens to me, too! The thesaurus just doesn’t always work! It’s so annoying.

@dekreel Happens to me too. I want to say something that would really help whoever and I know just what to say. The only problem is that when I go to say it, I can’t think of the word! Or some amazing idea comes into mind or an amazing word to express it, but after the one amazing lightning bolt second I can’t remember the word. *head-desk* f

Oops! Somehow I submitted that twice. I was trying to submit it really quickly, then a red sign popped up above that said for me to “Slow down, you move too fast”. The funny thing is, I am ALWAYS in a HUGE rush. I probably deserved that warning. *crosses arms*

@dekreel  I suffer from this disease as well. 🙂  And unfortunately, I have yet to discover a cure.

I use the thesaurus A LOT, but it doesn’t always help when you’re not entirely sure what word you’re even trying to use.  😉  I think this is something that every writer endures…and conquers at some point.  And the great thing is that when you go back and edit your story, you might have thought of the word by then!!!  And then you just dance around the room while everyone looks at you weird.  😉

@Dekreel that happens to me too sometimes. >.< Normally I just start describing the word, finding a synonym, or just continuing to write and leaving myself a comment there so I can think of it later. 😛

@dekreel that does happen to me… I should get a thesaurus.

Relatable. All of it. The worst part is when I’m trying to think of the word, and there’s like a little light that flickers in your mind and you go, “Wait… it’s coming to me!” And then it’s gone instantly!!! *pulls hair*
