Hello all! I come to you seeking your highly valued and respected opinions.
Here’s my trouble: I have these creatures called trogs and gremlins in my world, which are nasty little minions of the Tashar, my evil over-lord. Unfortunately, it is extremely annoying when these two creatures are together (which is quite often) as I am constantly having to write things like “the trogs and gremlins ran away” or “the trogs and gremlins howled” etc.
Anyway, when there are girls and boys in a crowd, we don’t say “the girls and boys smiled” we say “the children smiled”. So that’s what I want to do with my trogs and gremlins. Create a generic species name that refers to both of their breeds.
Now what I want to ask you: Do you prefer the name Slua, or Facin for their species name? I can’t decide.
Thanks so much for your help!

November 28, 2016 at 2:48 pm #21745Definitely Slua hands down. I normally wouldn’t choose it, but the names of your creatures sound like they would work well with Slua.
If you have any more questions, please let me know!

Well the vote seems unanimous! Slua it is. On closer inspection, I think I like it better myself as well. Facin sounded better in my head than when I actually wrote it down. 🙂

November 30, 2016 at 12:35 pm #21897@dragon-snapper Oops, sorry. We Elves get carried away sometimes. 🙂
Another little random thought I had (well, technically my mom suggested it first, but you can ignore that fun fact) was Sluagh. (rhymes with cow) Any thoughts?

November 30, 2016 at 1:20 pm #21900@ethryndal That’s alright. You see that I melted no chairs.
It depends on how you pronounce Slua comparted to Sluagh. Slua is pronounced Slew-a, right? At first glance, Sluagh is read to me Slow, not Sluagh as in Cow.☀ ☀ ☀ ENFP ☀ ☀ ☀
November 30, 2016 at 1:28 pm #21901I would have pronounced it Slew-agg. I think my preference would still be slua.

November 30, 2016 at 1:59 pm #21902What Daeus said. 😛
December 2, 2016 at 11:29 am #22079Well, I just learned from a trusted source (Wikapedia, to be precise) that sluagh are not the the made up creatures I or my mother thought them to be, but are, in fact, demented spirits that suck the souls out of men.
So, yeah. I think I’ll stick with slua.
