A name list? Hey, send me that, unless of course its too inconvenient. I’ve got a couple names I’m really pleased with, but when I get a sudden surge of minor characters in my story, I find it hard to think of names for them that really fit.

Um… it’s not inconvenient, but maybe I should have mentioned… all the names are Germanic and Celtic and Anglo-Saxon names. I would be happy to send it to you if you want, but I didn’t think you used those kinds of names.
If you still want the list, I’ll weed out the names I know for a fact I’m using (dibs and prior claims and all that) and either post the list here, or if you would give me your email address I can email it to you as soon as possible.
Yeah, I know what you mean about naming minor characters. It can be somewhat of a chore. πŸ˜›

That sounds good. Posting it here, I mean. Daeus, I and anyone else who’s looking could see it that way. πŸ˜‰

Thanks. Your’e right that I probably won’t use many of these, but I’m sure I can use a few. They’re very unique so they’ll be great for spicing up my dispensable characters and helping them seem like more than dummies dropped into existence just to occupy space. And maybe some day I’ll write fantasy too, but not right now.

                    Okay… *cpr on topic*
So I’m plotting this one right now and I think I might know where I’m going. (Which I didn’t for the longest time because there were a million different directions I could take it.)
The questions I need you guys for are: Where would you expect this to go from here? And what would you be disappointed if I didn’t do?

Welllll… the first thing that comes to mind is a little odd, and taking Finnian a bit further than you were perhaps planning. It would involve following two story lines at once, but it’s the first thing that came to mind so I’ll share it.

Quinn gets captured by the pirates and is forced into slavery or something, and Finnian tries to find him and save him. Why? I’m not exactly sure— maybe Finnian was tortured by guilt, and discovering some secret plot or scheme or something-or-other that involves Quinn and taking over the world (cuz why not?), he decides he doesn’t want to be a part of that and tries to save Quinn, in the process becoming a believer.

*cough* That may be pretty dumb, actually. *apologetic smile* No pressure— feel free to chuck it. πŸ˜‰

I would be disappointed if you didn’t develop Finnian more. I mean, he really has a lot of potential.
And of course I would expect you to make things really hard for Quinn because everyone loves a hurting MC.
*Pauses, winces as all own MC’s start screaming threats and denials in ears*
Well, at least I know I do.

Cool! That’s actually somewhat along the lines of where I was going with Finnian, so that’s good. πŸ˜‰

*covers Quinn’s ears* YES. Any… *ahem* suggestions for Quinn’s hardships? πŸ˜›

Okay, so my brother pointed out that it would be hard to have the ticking-time-bomb element be the colony’s lack of food without some sort of dip actually into the colonies. So, I’ve got a new character.
The only proficient sailors/navigators are a crew of exiled pirates (somewhat changed in their ways). And the colonists get desperate enough to send them out for food. They’re a little short on deckhands and so they stop by a slaver market. Of course, Quinn is picked.

So, yeah. Working from that point. πŸ™‚

Hey, I like that. I would totally read that @writefury. Keep me on your list for potential beta readers— again, can’t promise anything because my schedule—correction: my LIFE is so unpredictable. But keep me on your list. πŸ˜€

Well, as for Quinn, the usual hardships for a slave— especially the ‘taking orders unconditionally’ bit, which will be hard for him as a previous ship’s captain to do with grace. But not just outward struggles— internal battles as well.
Quinn is a very unique kind of character, by which I mean his type are very easy to overdo. They’re absolutely great! You just love them!!! And then suddenly… they become too great, and the whole thing’s spoiled.
So it’s important that he have things he’s struggling with internally. Maybe do this— maybe have an intense rivalry (under the radar of course) between him and the captain of the ‘reformed’ pirates. The captain being a very hard man (but not necessarily bad, you understand— in fact it would be much more interesting if he were just incredibly stern and authoritative, and not entirely without honor) and very harsh to him, and Quinn struggling to ‘turn the other cheek’ while at the same time fiercely trying to earn the man’s respect.

And what’s the message of this book? Is it forgiveness? Because if it is, I could totally see Eamon falling at one point or another into Quinn’s hands, and Quinn forgiving him. Finnian as well— only Finnian would have done somewhat to make amends, from the sound of it, so it wouldn’t be quite so significant as a pardon for nasty, slimy, toothy old Eamon.

                          Your thoughts?

Haha, definitely get that. I shall keep you in mind, though! πŸ˜›

YESSS all those. *takes notes* It’s a kind of humorous situation as well. πŸ˜‰

Forgiveness is a side theme. I think the main one is something like… taking a stand against larger evils? Something like that. They end up pretty much battling the whole Nimrodian system to try and save the people in the colonies, so that’s the main conflict. Finnian sort of inadvertently joins that.
Though, yes. Eamon will make a comeback… *mwahaha* πŸ˜›
