      Ok this is really embarrassing but I’ve got a major problem. I’m writing a story about a cat who gets lost. The family have just moved in to their new house, so it’s not unusual for a cat to go missing. They tend to try to get back to the old house. Don’t ask me why, but they do. *it’s a cat thing* But how did she get out of the house? She had been playing in the backyard, but was brought in. It’s a cold day in autumn (fall) so all the windows are shut. And no she didn’t go up the chimney.
      Can anyone help me out??? Or rather, can anyone help the cat out??? 🙂

        @bluejay Maybe the family had to leave for whatever reason and while the door was being held open, the cat slipped out the door and nobody noticed? It was a pretty common occurrence when we had a cat.

          @adry_grace The trouble is the family doesn’t leave. There is no mention of it. It is night time and their all tired, so I guessing they’d just go to bed.
          I’ve been trying to think all night, but every time I come up with an idea, I end up knocking it back. 😛

            Okay… hmmmmmmmm…. in that case. I don’t know. A door that doesn’t quite latch all the way, a secret way only a cat would think of? I dunno what that would be as I’m not a cat but if I walked around my house long enough I might figure it out.

                  Some houses have little swinging cat doors as part of the back door. You could have the family forget to latch it, or maybe, if they just moved in, they are unaware that the door exists.

                  Does that help?

                    Hm… is it an old house? The cat could slip down a loose grate into the basement and worm its way out from there… or it could squeeze through a mouse hole (a large one, obviously! 😛 ). Or maybe there was a hole in the screen door, and the outer door wasn’t shut properly… Or it could find its way up into the attic and somehow wriggle out a loose window sash onto the roof…

                    And why didn’t the cat go up the chimney? I would, if I were a cat… 😉 Have you read Beatrix Potter’s ‘Samuel Whiskers’? (It’s other name is ‘The Roly Poly Pudding’). It’s about a young kitten who wandered up the chimney to hide from its mother and got kidnapped by cat-eating rats! 😛
                    The house in that story was so old, there were gazillions of cat-sized passages between the walls and floors and through the backs of cupboards and things. Look it up. You might find some inspiration. 😉

                      @bluejay Is it an older house? Maybe the cat could be a kitten and slip out of a small hole they didn’t notice.

                        Or there could be an old window in the attic that no one knew was left unlock so the cat just pushed it open. @bluejay

                          @bluejay Is it a thinking cat? Might it have got another pet that could help it escape to form a plot with her?

                            @sarah-h. Nope no cat flap and I didn’t want to do that as in story 2 Chaos gets of the house that way.

                            @kate-flournoy
                            – Haha yes I have read that book. So had Missy (the cat) so she decided it was safer not too. I like the one about the screen door. That is a big possibility. The house doesn’t have an attic.

                            @vanna
                            The cat has got to be grown as in the next story which takes place soon after she has kittens all thanks to my main cat, Chaos. 🙂
                            Hmm…maybe I could put an attic in, seeing as two of you mentioned it as an idea.
                            Let me do some thinking.
                            Oh…this is a bit of a funny question. One idea that we (my mum and I) had was that Matt, (the dad) took something out to the garage and she got through the door then. My brother says that he wouldn’t go outside, he’d just use the internal door to get to the garage. This is an American set book, so how many of you guys have internal access to your garages?
                            And do you think the cat whould be trying to make a break for it?
                            I’m beginning to really like the attic window…

                              It’s suppose to be a children’s story. @daeus. Otherwise that might have worked. 🙂 🙂 🙂

                                @bluejay Pretty much if you live in the city you have internal access and most people in the country do too.

                                Here’s an idea though, what if this kitten hid in the trash can when it was being taken out and then when the people left, got out and made her escape?

                                  *Such a clever cat* I don’t think she’s that desperate to get out @daeus
