I have a question of my own about book titles…more specifically, about the title of a book I’m writing. The original title was Legend of the Shield, which I discarded after discovering that was also the title of a comics series. Then it became the Shield and Spear…which I’ve had for awhile, but don’t care for. It isn’t snappy enough. Anyway, here are a few of my ideas and I’m just wondering if any of them stand out to any of you. Some of them I don’t really care for and I have one I really like, but I’m not saying anything yet because I want to know what an ‘unbiased’ opinion would be. 🙂
King yet Servant
Battle of the Age
The Shield, the Spear, and the Sign
The Clashing
Clash of Kings
Clashing
Clash
Age’s Ending
INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
October 19, 2015 at 1:03 pm #6643Hm… I like Age’s Ending. Only maybe it would sound more dramatic if you went with simply ‘Age’s End’.
And glancing through the titles, I sort of mixed and matched and came up with a few that may or may not be relevant… I’m just fiddling around and trying to be my innocent unhelpful self, so feel free to tell me to go away.
‘When Kings Clash’
‘The Servant King’
‘Shield and Spear for the King’
‘The Age of the Shield and Spear’
‘Seal of a Royal Servant’ or simply ‘Seal of a Servant’, though I was trying to incorporate the unusual contrast of king and servant. And ‘The Sign of the Shield and Spear’
Um… actually don’t use that one. It sounds like the name of an inn. 😛
October 19, 2015 at 1:40 pm #6645I like Ages Ending and Kate’s The Servant King. 🙂
October 19, 2015 at 2:27 pm #6647Can it be “the slave king”? That would really catch my attention.
I like Battle of the age
And Age’s End
I like the “the sign” from “the spear, the shield, and the sign”. I think the whole thing is too long. Maybe something shorter and “the sign”🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
October 19, 2015 at 5:05 pm #6649Hmm, The Slave King wouldn’t work for this story, though it’s a great title.
Age’s End is a good idea too.
What do you think of The Clashing? I personally like that title, though my sister isn’t sure about it and (since I’m not very good at titles) I don’t completely trust myself when it comes to titling sometimes.
But still…The Clashing Two princes rise; one king falls. Two nations war; one weapon unites. Hmm, not sure. It always sounds better in my head. 😉
INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
October 19, 2015 at 5:37 pm #6650The subtitle sounds great, and I think the basic idea of clashing works well, but “the clashing” just doesn’t sound right. You might try a similar word instead and then add in an adjatiave or something.

October 19, 2015 at 5:41 pm #6651The Clashing sounds a bit cliche. In my mind, I’d assume that there is clashing just because of the premise of the story. I think Age’s End sounds really good with Two princes rise; one king falls. Two nations war; one weapon unites. That and it kind of signals the end of one way of life and opens the door to another. It’s very intriguing. It makes me wonder why the age is ending.
October 19, 2015 at 6:57 pm #6654Hm… I don’t think ‘The Clashing’ sounds cliche… no, it’s not that, I don’t think. I think it’s just a little… oh, what’s the word. Melodramatic? Maybe? Maybe a little videogame-ish?
But ultimately it’s your book— and since I haven’t read it through yet, I can’t offer an opinion on what would fit and what wouldn’t. 🙂
October 20, 2015 at 12:03 pm #6690The Clashing come from a prophecy about how the two weapons (the shield and the spear) will clash.
I think I like Age’s Ending the best of the various ideas suggested. The only problem is that I don’t know if there’s enough mystery in the title. Titles don’t need to have mystery, I suppose…but it is cool when, part way though the book, the title suddenly makes sense…
INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
October 22, 2015 at 12:04 pm #6743Thanks for your help and suggestions, everyone. I’ve yet to settle on a final name, but I’ve got some good ideas from this. I might try to combine some of the ideas. Two ideas I got last night were:
The Final Clash
Age’s Final ClashINTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
October 22, 2015 at 12:38 pm #6749The final clash sounds good

October 22, 2015 at 7:49 pm #6774Oooh, The Final Clash is super cool. I really like it.
