And I can see a lot of symbolism in the character names I choose, that others can’t see. The name Barnes is red; it’s a very vigilante color, which fits how the character wears a mask everywhere. But her first name (I don’t want to use it just yet) is the color of her hair and face, so when she uses her first name, it’s like taking off her mask.
@hybridlore This could be something Sara does in her writing.“Everything is a mountain”

November 5, 2024 at 10:44 am #189205Hi! Back with a few more questions! 🫣
Have you heard of projectors/associators? It basically is the difference between actually seeing words/symbols in the color or just associating it with that color in your mind’s eye. Do words really change color for you when you read them, or do you read it in black ink but see it in your head as colored?
How does ordinal linguistic personification work? Do you see words and names as having gender/personality too or is it just like months/days of the week or numbers?
Sound to color sounds amazing. Actually, a lot of the art pictures in my moodboard for Sara were painted by an artist who has sound to color synesthesia and paints what she sees for different songs. I think her name is Melissa McCracken. When you’re listening to music, do you see the colors of the music? Or is it mostly when you hear abrupt noises–or voices? I think Sara has this type too–one of my other ideas was that she plays the piano and composes music, but I’m not sure if I’m going with that. Being an author/journalist fits my *current* idea of the plot better, but that could change. Anyway, one of the other characters is a violinist, so I’m planning a fun scene with them. 😁
What colors are the piano keys? Is it just the keys, or do notes have a color too? (Does the color change if the note is sharped/flatted?)
What color is the name Isobel? Gabriella? Everett?

Acchhh this is extremely difficult. I believe my grapheme-color is somewhere in between association and projection. I was never confused as a child about how the letters were made with multiple colors, I knew they were black ink. But there is a difference in the shade of black I think. 8 has a warmer black than 2, and the color orange is right behind it, glowing around the letter. It’s like when you block out the sun but you can see the color around your skin.
It’s also like… actually, this is the best comparison, have you ever looked at a light for too long and looked away, so there’s a faint splotch of bright color in your eyesight? A lasting image?
Sorry for the uncertainty, it really feels like a separate sense from sight, and thus it’s hard to explain in terms of sight. 😅
How does ordinal linguistic personification work?
The symbols have a visual personality to them, like the appearance of a person. They can have levels of masculinity and femininity, a default emotion, and even a moral code. Behold, the Numbers Family dynamic:
1 – He is the straight-faced, say-it-as-it-is person, as well as a huge introvert.
2 – 2 is a lot like 1, but she can be a little more expressive and is extremely responsible.
3 – The happy guy, 3 goes with the flow and keeps everyone engaged.
4 – 4 is self conscious, he has a lot of practical skills but doesn’t know how to put himself out there.
5 – She snaps at 4 constantly, and always has a mean grin on her face. However she can be overzealous when protecting others.
6 – He is a natural ghost-whisperer and has a calm, whispery sad voice.
7 – He is physically the strongest of the group and is probably the captain of a football team and a chess team.
8 – Sweetly oblivious, he is that one friend who you can always confide in, even if he doesn’t know what to say.
9 – She is confident in herself and is a great leader.
I see these traits in the numbers’ facial (???) expressions, which appear to me involuntarily.
Do you see words and names as having gender/personality too or is it just like months/days of the week or numbers?
All of the above, down to the individual letters. Some letter personalities are stronger than the others, and take over/combine to be the main personality of the word.
When you’re listening to music, do you see the colors of the music? Or is it mostly when you hear abrupt noises–or voices?
My sound-to-color synesthesia is not very impressive. 😂 It rarely happens. But there is one time when I involuntarily make the association – when someone speaks with strong vowel sounds, like a man with a very mature singing voice. It’s in some form of the color red/orange.
I wish I had more of that type, but other people do! I’m sure you can find great articles on it.
What colors are the piano keys? Is it just the keys, or do notes have a color too? (Does the color change if the note is sharped/flatted?)
It’s not the notes, the literal ivory/plastic keys have color associations. I don’t know what this type is supposed to be called!! 😖 I look at the keyboard and the D key is bright pink, it stick out like a sore thumb.
I probably developed this as a baby. My father was a music major in college. I have vague memories of him practicing every day after work, with me on his lap, banging on the keys in between his hands. Thanks for reawakening those memories, I’d forgotten completely. 🙂
What color is the name Isobel? Gabriella? Everett?
Isobel – Golden orange shining over a flat purple surface.
Gabriella – Orange, and a shaggy texture.
Everett – Green with shadowy stripes here and there.

@whaley wow I would watch a TV show or read a multi-part comic about those numbers as you think of them, that’s super cool.
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
