If you have time, I would LOVE to hear examples. Like, describing the things you see/feel/hear and what happens when you do.

October 30, 2024 at 10:37 am #188586Oh my goodness, how did I not know that before?? I am so glad though. (You may be bombarded with questions in the near future. ;))
That’s fine with me! đ I even wrote a ten-page research paper on the subject, so I’ve done the research dive myself and it is certainly complicated.
Iâm not sure what the proper names are for all of hers, (this is still kind of an early stage of development haha) but she sees some words, sounds, and emotions as having color/shape/texture/feeling.
Awesome! There are a looooooot of types to explore, and it can be overwhelming. But the best way to picture it is in combinations of the five senses.
It doesnât happen with all things, but I thought it would be a really cool way to create an interesting point of view.
Oh yeah, totally. Can you imagine what a short film abot it would look like? đ

Okay um… *Thinks about where to start*
So grapheme-color synesthesia is the most common type. I see letters and numbers with colors. Look at a letter, and use your imagination as hard as you can to picture the color green. Now imagine your brain did that on default every time it sees that letter. That’s kind of what it’s like.
I can’t turn it off. When I see the name Hybridlore, I will always see the colors and associate them with you.
Here is a deconstruction of your name:
The H, I, and O are the strongest letters, colored transparent pink, yellow, and red. The B, Rs, and L are of a darker, warmer color, something like dull maroon. The Y is cooler, like a cloudy day. The E doesn’t do much because it’s silent.
Every letter in the alphabet has a distinct color, or at least falls somewhere on the warm-to-cool scale. The vowels are by far the most saturated: a=pink/red, e=green, i=yellow, o=red, u=dull purple, y=cool blue or turquoise.
So… yeah. XD

I feel like you did my name before but I’d love to hear what you imagine what you think of it.
(I also feel like that would make an amazing gift idea: make nameplates for your family or friends, like to hang on their walls or something, and each letter is the color you imagine for it. I would love something like that.)
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.

Thatâs long! đ Well great, that means youâre an expert xD
Can you imagine what a short film abot it would look like? đ
That would be SO cool⌠and trippy đ
Wow. Thank you so muchâthat was really cool to read. So, do words have a specific color or do they just take on the colors of the letters? Do you see each individual letter as itâs own color even within a word?
Does that happen to all words?
Also, last question. (Sorry.) The name of the project is The Color of Hope, and as I mentioned Sara sees emotions or feelings as colors. For example, bitterness = chalky gray, excitement = rosy pink. Does this ever happen to you? What color is the word hope?

Funny thing, our family sometimes divides things by colors for each kid. As a little girl, I suggested what each person’s color should be, and everyone went along with it. So in a way, the whole family has played by those color distinctions for a long time. XD
That would be SO cool⌠and trippy đ
Hehehe
Wow. Thank you so muchâthat was really cool to read.
Ofc! I do not mind questions, ask as many as you need.
So, do words have a specific color or do they just take on the colors of the letters? Do you see each individual letter as itâs own color even within a word?
It depends on the person who has synesthesia. For me, letters always have their own individual colors which can affect the word’s overall look. But a word can have an independent color. Usually a word falls into one of three categories:
– A mixbag of colors because of all the letters
– One main color which overpowers the others and is based on a letter in the word, usually the first letter. For example, the name Carlos is dominated by gray, which is the color of ‘C.’
– One main color which is completely unrelated to any of the letters. For example, the name George is orange to me, but none of the letters are actually orange.
But that’s just my experience, and your character can have a different experience if you want that.
Does that happen to all words?
Every word has a color, and falls into the categories above.
Also, last question. (Sorry.) The name of the project is The Color of Hope, and as I mentioned Sara sees emotions or feelings as colors. For example, bitterness = chalky gray, excitement = rosy pink. Does this ever happen to you? What color is the word hope?
Imagine if there was a pink fire. A combination of glowing orange and pale translucent pink. That’s what I associate hope with. :]

Wow. I LOVE that description. Do you mind if I use it or something similar?
Thank you so much for answering all the questions! I will probably have more once I start writing. đ

Also, purely curiosity, what color is the name Sara to you? Or Cole?

October 30, 2024 at 4:34 pm #188621Iâm not trying to steal the way you see everything, itâs just so interesting finding out how a real person with synesthesia would think about them đ

Totally! I love going down the research rabbit hole to tell you the truth. I know some people despise that part of writing, but it’s just so fuuuun.
Also, purely curiosity, what color is the name Sara to you? Or Cole?
Sara is something between peach and watermelon, very faded.
Cole is dark gray with a dash of warmth, honestly very much like active coal.

October 30, 2024 at 5:00 pm #188624Haha, I get what you mean. Sometimes I enjoy research, sometimes itâs overwhelming how much you DONâT KNOW about a subject. But I really appreciate all your help đ¤
Awesome! Thank you!!

October 31, 2024 at 4:25 pm #188716@whalekeeper Pink fire of hope sounds AMAZING. @hybridlore you should definitely use that.
also I love how my name makes you think of sea glass. I love sea glass. When my family went to Italy on a mission trip, we found some on the beach (the church we visited had baptized some people there) and I just kept sifting through the gravel looking for more (their beaches are a good deal rockier than those in the Americas)
Not to be annoying, but here’s some questions about names for you:
- When you’re reading/watching/otherwise experiencing a story, are the characters’ name colors influenced in any way by the characters themselves? For example, are any of the Bad Batch’s names red or gray to you because their theme colors are red and gray and you associate it with them, or does that have no bearing whatsoever on how you see their names? (speaking of which, what are their theme colors?)
- In the same vein, if a character’s got more than one name/other moniker they’re referred to by, are the name colors completely disjoint or do they have some connection? Like Sniper. His real name’s Mundy, despite the fact that I rarely refer to him by it. His names have zero letters in common, as I just realized, so are they different colors completely? Especially considering you have no real attachment to this character
like I do heheh, so there’s nothing in your mind that might make you partial to one color for him. - What about compound words, what are they like? Does the word, say, “matchstick” have a separate color than “match” and “stick” or do the separate words retain their colors?
- Is there any instance in which your color(s) for a word have changed, or is it always the same?
sorry for so many questions!! I just think how you describe your synesthesia is super cool.
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.

November 1, 2024 at 8:39 am #188738I like the painterly picture to the left of the center, it adds such a nice pop of brightness.
Hehe, youâre good!
1. The name color does not change that much regardless of the characterâs canon theme color. In fact, it takes over my perception of them. I cannot get away from this for the life of me. Sometimes I even picture a character with the wrong hair or eye color because of it – like if someone is called Lilly, which makes me think of light gold, but the writer later describes her hair as black. I highly associate characters with their names regardless of what the writer pictures. Itâs why Iâm always so picky about my own character names.
2. Disjointed, but still overlapping in a way? Itâs like adding a new dimension to the character, a secret âother sideâ to them, which can be turned off if Iâm not thinking about the second name. Sniper and Mundy are indeed different. Mundy is a dark dust and purple; when people start calling him Sniper, his theme color will temporarily switch to the yellow of a grasshopper.
3. A compound word retains all colors belonging to the separate words.
4. No change that I can think of. Since every letter in the alphabet has a color, itâs very intuitive to just look at a new word and combine every element.
sorry for so many questions!! I just think how you describe your synesthesia is super cool.
Thank you! Sometimes I forget how complicated this can be. Colors arenât even the half of it; symbols have genders and personalities too. Makes me sound crazy doesnât it
