Okay, let’s have some fun with words here. This is the only set ‘style’ of poetry I was ever able to understand and remember, and I’ve had quite a bit of fun with it over the years.
Limerick. It’s incredibly easy even if you have no ear for poetry at all— the form is like this:
There was a young hopeful named Sam
Who loved diving into the jam.
His mother said ‘Sammy, don’t make yourself jammy!’
He said ‘You’re too late Ma, I am!’I didn’t write that one, by the way. 😉
So let’s try to write a few of these— they can be funny, sad, mysterious, whatever, just so long as they follow this pattern. They don’t even have to make a ton of sense— it’s just for fun.
One of my first limericks is as follows:‘There once was a Duchess from Kent,
Who smiled wherever she went.
She grinned while she slept,
She grinned ’til she wept,
And she put up her smile for rent.’Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! 😀
March 10, 2016 at 1:27 pm #9940There once was a girl named Joy,
Who hated ev’ry little boy,
So all little boys,
Made lots of noise,
And tried Joy to annoy.March 10, 2016 at 1:53 pm #9941There once was a boy named John,
Who always sang the same song,
He sang about a swan,
Who needed to yawn,
But couldn’t lest he should drown in the pond.March 10, 2016 at 1:55 pm #9942I might not be very good at this but here goes:
Three little bugs and a bee,
Were sitting, one day, in a tree.
The bee tried to sting them,
And soon they de-winged him,
Leaving the bee in the tree.A dreamer who believes in the impossible...and dragons. (INFJ-T)
March 10, 2016 at 2:02 pm #9943That’s fun, I want to try it again.
There once was a fellow named Eustace,
Who rambled until he confused us,
He rambled on colors, and beetles and bugs,
He rambled about jokes, and how to give hugs,
But even he finds the facts quite useless.(Yes. I got the name from VOTDT but it’s such a fun name to works with)
This might be added to my list of stuff to do during my freetime. 🙂
March 10, 2016 at 3:26 pm #9945Hahaha… hilarious guys, all of them are hilarious.
And yes @Adry_grace, I can definitely see how that last one was ‘Eustace inspired’. 😉
It’s fun, isn’t it?
March 10, 2016 at 5:06 pm #9947@kate-flournoy, thanks for starting the topic! Limericks are so much fun. 🙂
My name is Johnny Bill,
My best friend’s name is Jill,
I changed my mind,
Don’t like her kind,
Now Jill I’m gonna kill.That was a little morbid…

March 10, 2016 at 6:56 pm #9957Sweet, guys. Sweet. 😉
There was a young bride from the States,
Who gorged herself daily on dates.
She loved them so dearly
She ate three tons yearly,
And swelled at enormous rates.March 10, 2016 at 7:36 pm #9961@adry_grace, hehe…glad it made you laugh. XD
@kate-flournoy, Haha, that’s great! 😛This one’s not very good, but anyway…
There was a girl called Connie,
Whose sister’s name was Bonnie,
She was so wee,
That she will be,
Always with their Mommy.March 10, 2016 at 7:36 pm #9962Correction: That she would be.
March 10, 2016 at 7:44 pm #9966Heh-heh… I like it. I think I could make a few suggestions if you wanted to make it better… but I try not to give my opinions unsolicited. 😛 Are you open to a few suggestions, @gretald?
