@sarafini Booksbyjayna is also the name of my website, so yes, it helps if it’s easy to remember.

Well, Benjamin and Rane were competing for the hero spot at one time, so that’s probably why I’ve talked about them more.
Probably.
I do have rather a soft spot for Jem. He’s so terribly conflicted all the time, and it’s only getting worse.
Awwwwww…I’ll probably love him then! 😀
Who let you loose with the emojis, BTW?
Me. 😂😂😂😂
January 26, 2023 at 5:06 pm #130204@booksbyjayna Ah, cool! I like to write….let’s see…..Lots of fanfiction. Also a few short fantasy stories involving dinosaurs, a slightly dystopian sci-fi, and a fantasy story set in the real world about the animals of the Everglades. (Those last two I haven’t started writing yet, but have partially plotted.)
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
January 26, 2023 at 5:57 pm #130232@keilah-h Sounds fun! Especially the Everglades. What made you decide on that?

Hi, Jayna! 😊 Amanda Dykes is my all-time favorite author, so we definitely have that in common!
January 26, 2023 at 6:38 pm #130239@booksbyjayna Hello! (again) I think I met you briefly on another topic. Welcome! I am happy to meet another sister in Christ, a fellow home school grad, and Historical Fiction writer! You’re WIP sounds fascinating. Currently I have three His fic projects started: one in 1863 during the battle of Gettysburg, one in 1939 in Poland, and last but not least, one about two teenage girls living through the current Russo-Ukrainian conflict/war.
What’s your favorite time period to write about?
Also, that’s super amazing that you have a book indie published! I’m thinking of going that route eventually, but as of right now, I’m just trying to grasp the basics of turning a first draft into a completed manuscript.
He must increase, but I must decrease.
January 26, 2023 at 7:00 pm #130249Hello and welcome to the Kingdom!! We’re excited to have you :)! Oh, that’s so cool that you and @freedomwriter76 know each other already!! Any friend of Freedom is a friend of mine :).
Ahh, I hate it when that happens! Actually, that just happened to me too!! This is the second time I’ve tried to welcome you, the first time it got deleted :(.
I’m Lightoverdarkness6, a teen girl who loves drawing, playing piano, exploring the great outdoors, ranting about characters and books, and, of course, writing!!
Okay, now for the newbie questions!
1. Which of your characters are most like you?
2. What is your favorite movie?
3. If you could choose any 3 people to meet, (historical figure, celebrity, etc.) who would you meet and what would you ask them?
Anyway, it’s nice to meet you, and I hope you have a blessed time here :)!

Sorry. Usually I’m more talkative than this.

Lol she’s like that 😆
And we love her for it 😝😀
Hello and welcome!
That’s so cool you’re published! No idea what I wan to do with mine, lol. I want to be published somewhere, but it’s important to me to get to be the illustrator, so I might go with webtoon. If you know other options, I’d love to hear what you’ve got!
I’m mineralizedwritings around here, I write dystopian ya, draw, and make comicy things. A couple of questions for you…
1. Are snakes cool?
2. Favorite charcater to write from any books you’ve written? (in progress works included?)
3. Being somebody who has published, does it feel sad being kinda “done” with your favorite characters you spent so long working with? Do you like still write shorts of them, or is it pretty easy to move on to the next thing?
4. Favorite music to listen too?
Anyways, glad to have you here! 😁

@felicity Thank you! Your projects all sound interesting. I know a missionary family who was in Ukraine and had to flee the country; I can’t imagine what it would be like for the people still there. Is it hard to write a project about a conflict that hasn’t ended?I’ve always loved the Revolutionary War era, so that’s what I enjoy writing right now, but I’m also interested in the War of 1812 and WWII (I wonder why historical eras are so often wars?). Congratulations on finishing a draft—that’s a major accomplishment!

@lightoverdarkness6 Hello there!1. Which character is most like me? Probably Elizabeth Woodbridge, the sister of my WIP’s hero. She’s not a major character, but she looks a bit like me and we are both learning to do hard things even when it scares us. Rane Armistead, my WIP’s secondary hero, shares my love for words and refinement. And in my first novel, already released, I identify strongly with Hank Jonas’s confession that silence makes him nervous so he says whatever he can think of just to be talking. 🙂
2. Favorite movie? Too hard. But I do love the 1934 Scarlet Pimpernel movie, starring Leslie Howard. And I really like the Hallmark series Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Oh, and the new Christopher Robin movie.
3. What three famous people would I want to meet and what would I ask them? Haven’t the foggiest. Maybe Patrick Henry, since he’s always been a Revolutionary War hero of mine. James Scott Bell, since his books on story structure saved my writerly sanity and I would love to tell him that. And maybe Elisabeth Elliott—a heroine of womanly faith. But there are plenty of Bible people it would be interesting to meet too.

www.booksbyjayna.comJanuary 27, 2023 at 12:51 pm #130312@gwyndalf-the-wise What does your name (Jayna) mean?
Jayna means “God is gracious.” Fun fact, my mom’s name, Shawna, means the same thing through a different language stream, so in a way I’m coincidentally named after my mom.

@mineralizedwritings There are lots of indie publishing options that can include art, but I’m not an illustrator myself, so I can’t help you much, although I expect you could print illustrated books through KDP the same as any other book.A couple of questions for you… 1. Are snakes cool? 2. Favorite character to write from any books you’ve written? (in progress works included?) 3. Being somebody who has published, does it feel sad being kinda “done” with your favorite characters you spent so long working with? Do you like still write shorts of them, or is it pretty easy to move on to the next thing? 4. Favorite music to listen to?
1. Snakes are not cool. They’re vaguely interesting as long as I know they’re there, but a snake sneaking up on me is the opposite of cool.
2. Alec Perry in Preacher on the Run was one of my favorite characters to write. He sort of wrote himself. If you love rough-edged lone-wolf characters with murky pasts who are a great help to the hero but could just as easily go rogue, Alec will be one of your favorites, too.
3. The book I published was the first in a trilogy, so I’m still working with a lot of the same characters. I have other unpublished books that I’ve moved on from, though. I always love the characters, but I reach a point where their story is done, and I’m okay with that. They might feature in short stories or as background characters, but I’m also okay with starting a new series.
4. My favorite music depends on my mood. I love southern gospel, both the classic stuff and more contemporary; I like songs from musicals and Gilbert & Sullivan operettas; I listen to a lot of instrumental music along the lines of The Piano Guys or Phil Coulter’s Celtic arrangements; I sometimes play classical music if I’m not in a sing-along mood.

www.booksbyjayna.comJanuary 27, 2023 at 2:52 pm #130318Hello, hello!! Welcome to Kingdom Pen, Jayna! I’m Esther: a volleyball-playing, violin-squeaking, dog-obsessed, homeschooled, God-loving, amateur writer!!
I dabble in all kinds of genres when it comes to my writing. My WIP is ya dystopian, but I have a put-aside-for-very-long-time fantasy duology and ideas for a contemporary novel, a his-fic novel, and 2-5 biblical fiction works.
Super cool that you’re published!! I think Freedom has mentioned Preacher on the Run before and it’s on my to-be-read list! I hope to get my (WIP) trilogy published when it’s all done. Even though I’m not even close to finishing, I think I’ll be self-publishing. (1. Because my aunt is an editor. 2. I know someone personally who would be willing to design my cover. 3. It would be easier. 😜)
Now for some questions!! (I’m a bit late to the party, so lets see what questions I can rack out of my brain)
1. Favorite Bible character? (Other than Jesus, of course. 😉)
2. If you could visit any country in the world, which country would it be? And why?
3. If you could spend a week in any of your published works, (or unpublished ones) which would it be and why?
4. Favorite meal?
Nice to meet you and see ya around!!

@esther-c Hello! Yes, I’m sure @freedomwriter76 has mentioned Preacher on the Run here. I’ll warn you that self-publishing is a ton of work, but I’m glad I made the decision I did. Just do your research. Thomas Umstattd Jr.’s Novel Marketing Podcast has been really helpful to me lately, as have his courses. I will warn you that he advises authors to pick one genre and plan on sticking with it. 🙂 The exception is if your genres converge on one very particular audience. Now for some questions!! (I’m a bit late to the party, so lets see what questions I can rack out of my brain) 1. Favorite Bible character? (Other than Jesus, of course. 😉) 2. If you could visit any country in the world, which country would it be? And why? 3. If you could spend a week in any of your published works, (or unpublished ones) which would it be and why? 4. Favorite meal? Nice to meet you and see ya around!!
You ask hard questions.
1. Favorite Bible character: I LOVE the story of Joseph. Always have. I’ve even played with an idea for a retelling that involves the brothers getting him kidnapped into service in the British Royal Navy.
2. Country to visit: Probably someplace European. The UK is pretty high on my list, just because I love history and British mannerisms.
3. Spending a week in one of my works: I honestly don’t know that I’d want to spend a week on the North Carolina frontier during the Revolutionary War (eek), so maybe I’d go to the 1950s/60s and hang out with the high school baseball team in one of the unpublished series I wrote in my teens.
4. Favorite meal: Can I say coffee? With chocolate? No? Then probably something that’s meat and rather posh. I’m a bit of a foodie.
@everyone-who’s-welcomed-me, it’s not fair that I answer all these and don’t get your answers. So everybody answer at least one of the questions you asked me. 🙂
