      Hello, everyone,

I tried to post my introduction once, but apparently the links in it made it vanish into the void. Let’s give it another go.

My name is Jayna Baas, pronounced as in “baa, baa, black sheep,” and I live in the rural Midwest, where I write books, edit books, read books, and occasionally try to do other things that are not related to books—like gardening, cooking, playing piano, and drinking French press coffee. I love to spend time with my family and church family as well, and my heart’s desire is to know my Lord better.

Currently, I write Christian historical fiction that combines lesser-known stories of the Revolutionary War era with engaging characters and strong biblical elements. I love the way a good story can convey eternal truth about what one of my favorite authors, Amanda Dykes, calls “the greatest story of all.” I released my first novel, Preacher on the Run, in 2020—feel free to ask me lots of indie publishing questions! When I’m not writing, I serve as director of The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network and also work as a freelance copyeditor—feel free to ask me lots of editing questions! My website is http://www.booksbyjayna.com, where I offer a free short story to newsletter subscribers.

I’m excited to be here and look forward to both learning from you all and encouraging other writers. I really like to help answer people’s questions, so kindly tell me if I start to act a bit too much like the kid who always raises her hand in class. 🙂 And a special hello to @freedomwriter76!

@booksbyjayna. YOU’RE HERE!!!! *hugs you tight* Welcome, Jayna!!! I’m so glad you could join Kingdom Pen!!! 😀 💖 I’m so happy you’re here!!! 😁😁😁

Prepare yourself for a bunch of random ask-the-newbie questions, because they shall be coming your way. 😝

You already know who I am, so I have no need to introduce myself. 😂

Hmmm…I’m racking my brain for a few questions of my own to ask you…but I already know about your WIP, so…that’s out of the question, I suppose. 😂😂😂

But OOH, which of the Two MC’s from your current WIP do you enjoy writing the most? Like, do you like writing one of them more than the other, and if so, why??? 😉

Now…I must tag some other Keepers (what we people on KP are called, 😝😂) to say hello!

          @booksbyjayna Hello!!!

Can I just say I love your name? One of my characters is named Jaina (different spelling but I assume same pronunciation).

@freedomwriter76 Thank you for the warm welcome, but must you ask such difficult questions? You seem to assume I only have two MCs in my WIP, ha ha. I currently have four, actually—one hero and three other POV protagonists. I think I like writing whichever one I’ve been working on for a while—once I get into the character’s voice, it’s hard to switch to a different one. And their voices really are so different: Benjamin with his backcountry longhunter attitude, Rane with his scholarly British background, Jem with his Irish-faking-British double persona, and Kate with her no-nonsense Scots-Irish love for her makeshift family. But that makes it fun. I believe I like Benjamin best—when he’s behaving. He was being a jerk a couple of weeks ago. 🙂

@keilah-h Hello! Thank you! Your name is lovely, too. Yes, it’s pronounced as it looks, so I assume that’s the same as your character.

Such an easy tag! I love it!

Hi I’m Sara (aka Sarafini). I’m a sci-fi, thriller and contemporary writer! Spy stuff is my thing 😎 (FBI, CIA, ect). I’m also a recent homeschool graduate and am looking forward to adulthood this year! 😁🥳

                Newbie questions:

                1. Genre/genres (to write)?

                2. WIP synopsis?

                3. I take it you’re an adult, so how did you do school? Online, homeschool, in-person (public/private)?

@booksbyjayna. You’re very welcome!!! And yes, I simply must. 😝 Don’t you know me and my questions enough by now to know that I have to ask the most difficult questions!?!?!? 😂😂😂😂😂

Ohhhhh, you have 4!?!?!? I did not know that yet!!! 😂😝 I’ve never heard of the others…only Benjamin and Rane, so…🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Benjamin with his backcountry longhunter attitude, Rane with his scholarly British background, Jem with his Irish-faking-British double persona, and Kate with her no-nonsense Scots-Irish love for her makeshift family.

                    Jem sounds absolutely wonderful. 😂😂😂

BENJAMIN, HOW COULD YOU!?!?!?!?!? Don’t be a jerk, man!!! 😔

                    😂😂😂😂

But yeah…anywho, I hope you have a lot of fun here on KP!!! 💕💕💕💕

(And again, yes, I must ask tough questions. And don’t be surprised when I come at you with more. 😂😂😂😂)

@sarafini Hi Sara! I’ll take your questions in order:

                      1. Genre/genres: Right now I’m halfway through a Christian historical fiction trilogy set in the Revolutionary War era. The “genre” of historical would probably be adventure, as my stories aren’t romance. I do have ideas stewing for a suspense book or two someday—not FBI or CIA but a mysterious taskforce called ICHTHUS. *rubs hands with glee*

                      2. WIP synopsis: This is book two of my trilogy, about a frontier militiaman named Benjamin Woodbridge who has been looking for a fight ever since the Loyalists killed his father nine years ago. When the enemy ambushes Benjamin and strikes his own hometown in the Blue Ridge, that fight looks much different than he expected. I’m 40 percent through my latest draft.

                      3. School: I’m also a homeschool graduate and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!

Yay! Me too! Homeschooling was awesome! Nice. I literally have no name ideas for a made-up corporation like the FBI so I just use those corporations instead. I can come up with place names but they’re really dumb. Lol. Paradise City. Pleasant Country. And my favorite The Government (my antagonists) 🤭

@freedomwriter76 Well, Benjamin and Rane were competing for the hero spot at one time, so that’s probably why I’ve talked about them more. I do have rather a soft spot for Jem. He’s so terribly conflicted all the time, and it’s only getting worse.

@sarafini Just don’t be surprised if someone someday informs you that “What?! The FBI never does that sort of thing!” And I honestly don’t know if there is any team like ICHTHUS (if they are they’re really, really good), so I’m on my own. 🙂

@keilah-h Right now I’m writing Christian historical fiction, but I have some suspense ideas in mind. I like to write books with deep Christian themes and engaging characters, and I’m a real-world writer—speculative fiction isn’t my thing, but I know a lot of writers who love it.
