I like dramatic dark things as long as it’s there for a purpose beyond making me scream or feel creeped out. It has to be there for a reason, and the reason needs to be highlighting the light!

No half-heartedness and no worldly fear must turn us aside from following the light unflinchingly.

The Village wasn’t that bad, to be honest. It was disturbing, but in more of a thought-provoking way because of the plot.

When I say it’s a good horror story, I mean that. There are a lot of thought-provoking horrors out there, usually to represent things gone too far, like dystopias. I think most good horrors are functionally dystopias.

Coraline is about home, courage, and the horrors of wishful thinking. It takes a ‘what if’ and digs into exactly what a child might experience if they follow that stranger. That movie taught thirteen-year-old me to be afraid of strangers. XD It’s loyal to the traditional creepy bedtime stories people used to tell their kids.

I think horror gets a bad rap. Lots of writers say their stories are dark, with PTSD, abuse, even gore. But they knee-jerk whenever the word ‘horror’ is used. There are tons of bad horrors out there, but some of them are absolutely amazing. Anyway, that’s just what I think. šŸ˜…

well then, I’ll keep it in mind.

I looked it up and it seems like it might be…. claymation? Something like that.

Yep! It’s stop-motion with lots of different materials. Stop-motions can be less expensive for the filmmakers, but they have to work a lot more.

Pro-tip for movie watchers: Stop-motions tend to be higher art quality than normal 3D. I should make a list of my favorites and post it in the movie topic!

Hm, so more of a phycological thriller? interesting!

And tangled is better than the original tale

It’s probably my favorite of the disney princess movies tbh. It’s a good story, the songs are good without being too annoying, and the fact that the main character is friends with a lizard makes me happy cause stereotypically, women hate reptiles in fiction.

LOL! SAME! I love tangled, it is one of the only princess movies I watch XD (second being princess and the frog… the voodoo stuff is a little…. but that is for a different day!)

I love Pascal! And I like her powers, most Disney princesses just rely on their magical animal slaves , My only critique is why didn’t they cut the hair farther down…? Because her hair at the end of the movie… (LOL, but that is not important šŸ˜…)

@the_lost-journal yesss Pascal is the best, and they worked Rapunzel’s powers into it quite well.

To be fair though, Flynn/Eugene was kinda dying and just wanted to chop her hair off so her ā€œmomā€ couldn’t take advantage of her anymore, so you can’t really expect him to do it properly. Plus he did it with what, a shard of mirror? So yeah, at least it makes sense. Canonically she lets her hair grow back long anyway.
