Hey what if the sun never actually sets here, but sometimes the fog/clouds thicken so much in an area that it looks like night? Just an idea idk if that contradicts anything we already wrote

So I had an RP written but my internet flickered. I tried to copy it but accidentally copied something else so…..I might have to redo it later. I’ll remember it though, it wasn’t too long.

Forgive me for trying to science the magic lol. it’s fun to do that.

? Nice try at explaining it, even if it is unexplainable

          That’s what I was thinking

          Lucille

“Sure.” Lucy didn’t know if riding the crows was even possible, but they didn’t seem like too much of an obstacle anymore – and they might lead to somewhere interesting. Birds always had a reason for flying somewhere.

Together, their stomachs stuffed, the two girls left the stump and mushrooms, tramping through the thicket which surrounded the tea party. They passed through patches of flowers and giant, twisted roots with the occasional thorns sticking up from the wood. The roots were so large that it became difficult to climb over them.

It was getting a little dark, and the brightly colored plant life was doused in shadow. But the mist was not thick along the ground, and everything was easy to see – when it wasn’t blocked by the foliage and labyrinth walls, of course.

They came to another root and Lucy was tall enough to climb onto it, but Mel couldn’t. Lucy got back down and folded her hands together for Mel to step up.

“I’ve been thinkin’,” Lucy said. “There was a little goblin thing who came out of nowhere and laughed at me. He liked seeing me lost. Everything around here wants us to stay lost. So maybe… maybe I need to stop trying to find my way around.”

            Mel

“Mmaybe.” Mel pulled herself over the root, and tried to help Lucy across as well, not that she needed it. “You wouldn’t have found me if you hadn’t been lost, and I wouldn’t have found you if the ground hadn’t eaten me and made me double lost.” She nearly tripped over a large rock, grabbing Lucy’s arm for balance. “Wait, no. Triple lost.”

She began to climb over the next big root, but stopped at the top when she noticed a tiny snail making its way across its mossy surface. She rested her chin down near it and stared for a bit.

              Lucille

“Everything’s expecting us to try and escape.” Lucy was still in her brown study when she reached the top of the root, frowning at nothing in particular. “We gotta be careful and not try to do one thing too much. They’ll notice, I think. And th-then – yeah. Th-They’ll change our course. That’s the pattern.”

Mel crouched, distracted, on the moss. Lucy stopped walking to watch her, then gazed out at the distant mists, shoving her hands in her pockets.

                  Mel

“Um… Okay then.” Mel scooped up the snail and slowly climbed down, staring at the creature in her hand the whole time. She came to stand next to Lucy, and looked up at her blankly. “So who’s they?”

                    Huntress

Gabriel told me to wake him up for the next watch and proceeded to make himself more or less comfortable by the fire. Sniper and Soldier did the same.

I watched the fire for a few minutes before my attention was diverted by some large animal in the distance. It didn’t appear to be targeting us, or hostile towards anything near it, but I couldn’t help but think about all the ones that were. The lizard that knocked me out….the cave troll…the garden-gnome-looking things…

It made me wonder what the purpose of this labyrinth even was. Were they guarding something?

                      Lucille

“…I don’t know,” Lucy admitted. “Hypotheses are hard.”

Her thoughts didn’t make much sense out loud. She watched as two little black eyestalks popped out of the shell in Mel’s palm.

                        Gabriel Mai

Gabriel’s eyes cracked open a few hours later, still hazy with exhaustion. He let out a small sigh, then went silent a second, before sitting up as if in alarm, untangling his fingers from the ribbon, and drawing his blades, red veins going up the blade. He scanned the fog around him, then shook his head. The voices in his head were interrupting his hearing, but he thought he heard that clicking again, the same clicking that had last time heralded a monster. He didn’t like the idea, hoping his hearing was off, or at least that it wouldn’t bother them. He turned to Huntress, and asked in a whisper, his voice betraying he was still tired.

“Do you hear a clicking sound?”

                          Mel

“I think I’ll name him Paul. And if it’s actually a girl, I can change it to Paula.”

Mel smiled as the snail emerged the rest of the way out of its shell and began to crawl around on her hand.

With her other hand, Mel pulled out her flashlight from her puffy jacket, and clicked it on. It was getting darker, and the twisted, thorny path ahead was beginning to look less friendly. The beam illuminated about a hundred feet ahead, before being reflected back by the fog.

“Idea!” Mel suddenly spun around, nearly dropping her snail on the ground in her excitement. “Whenever I shine my light at a crack between places, it gets all rainbowy. We could use that to find a way out! Like a exit detector. Hopefully we can find my door. Then I’ll be back at my aunt’s house, and you can take a bus home or something.” She pointed the flashlight back down the path. “But first I want to find those crows.”

                            Huntress

Gabriel suddenly approached me a few hours later.

At first I thought he was going to take up my spot guarding the camp, but he still seemed tired, so I almost told him that he didn’t need to take a shift for a while longer and that I’d get Soldier or Sniper to do it. He opened his mouth first, however, and asked “Do you hear a clicking sound?”

“What?” I asked, but then I heard it–a noise almost like that of a radiation counter. Not quite like the noise of the lizard we’d fought, or the troll, but it had an air of menace to it.

“I do hear it.” I said, drawing my knife just in case it was yet another monster intent on killing us for no apparent reason. “What do you think that is?”

                              Lucille

Lucy stuttered under her breath, looking for a nice way to say that Paul was the worst name ever. The creature she knew by that name was her mother’s nasty lap dog. But Mel had already moved on.

“…But first I want to find those crows,” Mel said.

“And Gabriel,” Lucy insisted. “That’s a good idea. But – I’ve never heard o’ Colorado. I hope it’s not far from my apartment. Long bus rides are expensive.”

Something crackled in the distance. The two girls froze, the flashlight trailing over the mist.

The path was so wild and overgrown that it was easy to stay hidden. Lucy crept forward and found a giant root to peer over. She motioned for Mel to join her.

The crackling turned into scuffling. A large mound of sticks sat tucked away in the giant thorns ahead. It was a well hidden nest. It was much smaller than the first nest Lucy saw – only the size of a modest tree house. Instead of being built high, it was low, close to the ground.

One of the crows sat inside. He tilted his head now and then, listening. He was quiet, only sometimes pecking at his nest.
