Gabriel shivered, watching Lucy with a faint smile. As he watched her, he finally saw the first bit of tiny wildlife since arriving in the labyrinth, a small brown frog. The creature blinked it buggy eyes, sitting in a small puddle. It was facing him, small and silent. A crack of thunder rippled through the sky, and the frog sat unfazed. His eyes blinked independently a second time as a large raindrop splatted directly on top his head.

He had never seen such a frog, so tiny it could easily fit in Lucy’s palm, it’s wet brown skin dotted with terra cotta. He lifted his finger to point it out to Lucy, but before he could speak, something flashed out of the corner of his eye. He thought it was lightning, but it didn’t go away, instead getting brighter the next second. The frog suddenly dove for the underbrush from whence it came. Without thinking, Gabriel’s body moved, pulling Lucy back.

Lucy was crouching over a stream of water, picking rocks out of the sludge, when Gabriel suddenly pulled her backwards. She stayed upright, but her shoes slipped in a puddle and water soaked into her socks and pants.

“Hey!” She whined. She dug into his side with her elbow.

I just copy-pasted this rp into a doc, which took less time than I thought it would, and rereading it is fun. It feels notably more structured than something like the fantasy school

I was thinking the latter, but not going too far without one person around. It makes sense if Gabriel wants to tell Lucy he saw something before Soldier shows up

Edit: That’s just my opinion but I’m saying it assuming Keilah probably agrees

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I think I’ll rp for Gabriel now because it makes sense, but if Keilah has a problem, we’ll set up an order.

“Shh. I saw something,” he whispered. His ribs mildly ached from her sharp elbow, but if he had been suddenly grabbed he probably would have reacted more violently so he couldn’t fault her. “If it’s another monster, I’m hoping it will pass us by.” He knew it wouldn’t if it were navigating by smell like most the monsters from his home, but he hoped. “Keep your hatchet close.” He had his hands now on the hilts of his blades, kneeling, poised ready to pounce at any sign of a threat.

Soldier

The bright insect was alluring. So alluring. I want it! I wanna eat it! It looks delicious….

Before I knew it I was flying into the storm.

A frog hopped by, dark against the rainy puddles. The light didn’t matter anymore. A frog was better prey.

Drat! It escaped into the bushes. I muttered a growl as I realized Sniper would’ve caught it if he’d been here. But then he would’ve likely eaten it, instead of me, even though it was my food.

I turned around to see a tree, and behind that tree were two figures. Humans, I think. A man, and a child. A girl…not unlike my own daughter, Georgia. But less flappy and furry and loud. Or maybe this child was loud. I couldn’t tell. She wasn’t talking.

I missed my children.

Maybe I should’ve tried to open the Sierra door harder.

Then I noticed, the man had a weapon! Actually, so did the girl!

They did not notice me. Good.

Then a flash of lightning lit me up from behind, and they noticed.

The storm lit the darkening clearing, a great boom shaking the leaves. As Lucy turned around, the silhouette of a creature stood against the rain. Wings, almost as large as the crows’, stretched out from the hulking figure.

Lucy screamed her head off like a wildcat.

he thinks it’s a firefly. He sometimes eats fireflies. They do not taste good, at all, and he usually stops after one, but he seems to forget this fact whenever he hasn’t seen them in a while.

Gabriel drew his blades. “Who are you? Were you also taken from your world to here?” He moved to block Lucy from sight. Even if Soldier had already seen her, he wasn’t going to let this thing any chance to get near her.

 

I apologize Soldier, Gabriel hates giant bird wings. (Blame the crows)
