Gabriel Mai
“That depends. Right now? No. You don’t have the strength nor the experience. In the future possibly, though I will say, there is yet to be a woman monster hunter where I am from. But if a woman had the will, and the strength to back it up, I guess it could be okay, though women should be protected like children since they are the ones who give us the future. You certainly have the stubbornness for monster fighting.”

None of that sounded like a definite answer, so Lucy shrugged. She was just as interested in becoming a secretary, anyway.
A clap of thunder rumbled in the distance. Bugs chirped louder as if getting their last voices in before something louder arrived. Gabriel and Lucy sped up, jogging over leaf piles and patches of heather.

December 15, 2025 at 3:57 pm #209224Ok! I’m back! @whalekeeper @rae IDK how we’re gonna collide with each other but ehh whatever.
Soldier
I beckoned with a wing toward the door, and Sniper followed me, Huntress still unconscious on his shoulders. He set her down in one of the rooms.
I decided to try to look through the cupboards in the opposite room. Maybe there was food?
They were locked. “DANG IT! OPEN UP!” I screeched, slamming it with my shoulder. A peephole opened. I muttered a growl and looked through.
Not food!
Planets!
The desert of Sierra was RIGHT THERE! So close I could touch it! and yet it wasn’t!
I peered at another cupboard. Hmm. I didn’t know that planet.
Another one! This one I knew! It was Sniper’s planet, Staten!
“What are ya doing, Soldier?” Sniper growled. “Shouldn’t ya be lookin’ for–” He cut off as I pulled my head away from the Staten cabinet and he was able to see inside, too.
“If only we had these kinds of portals at home!” I said. “We would’ve won the Galactic Wars ages ago!”
“Huh. That’s strange.” He watched the waves on Staten for a while before trying to pull the door. Locked, again!
He tried the planet I didn’t know, then another one which had a planet with an island filled with massive Drachenheul. Or at least, they looked like Drachenheul. I don’t know what they were.
None of this would help our teammate, though, so we continued on.

December 15, 2025 at 8:50 pm #209228December 16, 2025 at 8:27 am #209237Sorry, I was literally preparing an NDA yesterday (for my beta readers) and then went off to do some other stuff.
Gabriel Mai
Gabriel eventually stopped by a short tree. that grew up part of the labyrinth wall. Despite the narrow trunk, which looked like strands of wood twisted together like a candy, the tree had thick foliage that jutted out over the path, the branches just far enough to catch in the very top of Gabriel’s hair. Rain was beginning to fall.
Gabriel glanced at the tree, then kept going a little ways, hoping for better shelter of some kind. when he saw none, he returned to the tree.
“We’ll stop here. It’ll provide some protection from the rain.” Gabriel wished to build a fire, but even if it lit, he didn’t want to know what type of creatures the fire would attract.
Keilah, if I’m not mistaken (I just woke up not long ago, so I could be) you’re in the 100 cupboards room. your characters would probably go through the open door back out into the maze where they can find the camp of our characters in the maze somewhere. Unless Whaley disagrees, that should work. It’s the simplest way.

(PS. Pfp by SelkieSeal on Unvale. My dear Chase ❤️?)December 16, 2025 at 10:07 am #209238Oh wow! Are these beta readers for Baron Chronicles? I didn’t know you were that far along in the editing process.
Lucille
The foliage was so thick that they sat in relative comfort underneath it. It was like standing under the awning of a shop. The wood creaked up and down, like a oak and glass door, opening and shutting under thunder bursts. The rain pattered, and leaves bounced pleasantly under the onslaught.
Lucy waited for the storm to ease up. She rolled up her sleeves and stood at the branches’ edge, cupping her hands. She doused her hair with water to clean it, scrubbing furiously.
Water blew towards her and she scampered back. If her clothes got wet, she couldn’t stand the clammy stickiness. Her strategy was the same as sandpipers at a river’s mouth. Dash forward, dance away. Dash, dance.
Clouds blanketed the sky, as thick and overbearing as the mist, although the rain cleared some of the view. Everything looked much sharper shined with water. The labyrinth looks more like a normal old garden than it ever had before.

December 16, 2025 at 4:50 pm #209240I’m gonna wait for Keilah to rp, since Idk what to do with Gabriel at the moment, so this is kinda a good time.
Oh wow! Are these beta readers for Baron Chronicles? I didn’t know you were that far along in the editing process.
Yes. I have two confirmed beta readers at the moment, plus a friend who I’m going to ask, and someone who I have to double check with (because they are not Christian, and they said they would be okay reading it, but I want to make sure. I really don’t want them to feel forced into something.)
I only have Farewell and a single scene in What Kind of Love is This? to do, and I set my deadline as Friday (for myself, if I have to, I can push the deadline back as I haven’t told all my beta readers this date). Then I have to figure out illustrations plus cover design, and hire an editor after the beta readers. Once that’s done, Ellette will be hearing from me, and I’ll get my book published! Finally after about a year since I first started writing.
Then I need to figure out which charrie I’m going to bury myself in next XD.

Nice. How long do you think it’ll take to get their feedback and work through it? (Your guess, of course ?)
I wonder what it’ll be like to work with the last person. They’ll probably give you a lot of feedback on the line-by-line level instead of interacting with the Christian themes – or maybe the opposite because it’s different for them. Depends on their personality, I guess.
I mentioned on your critique topic that I’m free to help you with anything! And my offer still stands. Although based on what you’ve said, things are already going well.

Good luck! If you think it would help, give yourself a little time between working and deadlines so your brain refreshes and you can check the story with fresh eyes before “submitting” it. That’s what I do, anyway.
Once that’s done, Ellette will be hearing from me, and I’ll get my book published! Finally after about a year since I first started writing.
That’s great!! And there you have it. You’ve grown a lot and now you’ve got a whole novella on your hands. ?
A year? It feels like you’ve been here longer.
Then I need to figure out which charrie I’m going to bury myself in next XD.
That’s a good question.

December 16, 2025 at 7:48 pm #209242Nice. How long do you think it’ll take to get their feedback and work through it? (Your guess, of course ?)
I’m assuming by February. Which could either be a good guess or will have senior authors shaking their heads. The way I figure is that they probably won’t go through it fast at first due to Christmas and New Year’s, and school starting up again. Plus, one of my beta readers is a YouTuber so I have no idea what his schedule looks like.
I’ll probably ask them what’s an estimated time when they think they’ll be done when we go over the NDA and stuff.
Depends on their personality, I guess.
Yes exactly. It’s also going to be very interesting because she is a self-professed therian, but is already a fan of my art and Baron (she literally made fanart of him). Plus, I want to see if a non-Christian would be interested in my work.
A year? It feels like you’ve been here longer.
I’ve been on KP for over two years, but it’s only been about a year since I started writing The Baron Chronicles.
I mentioned on your critique topic that I’m free to help you with anything! And my offer still stands. Although based on what you’ve said, things are already going well.
Yes, I was considering asking you as well to beta read. I might still, and the reason I hesitated is that a beta reader is supposed to give feedback as if they’re a reader picking up the book with the mind of looking for any plot holes, shall we say. You’re both a writer and you alpha read with others on KP, and according to online sources, your beta readers are supposed to be different.
Since making my earlier post, I’ve decided that I’d like the input from someone who has seen it before, and in the end, who I decide to let beta read is my choice and should not be limited to technical online definitions.
Therefore I officially ask you, would you like to be a beta reader for The Baron Chronicles?

That’s something I’ve never heard before XD

Nor have I heard that. You’ve found a diverse pool of beta readers.
I’ve been on KP for over two years, but it’s only been about a year since I started writing The Baron Chronicles.
Okay good, I was beginning to think something was wrong with my memory.
you alpha read with others on KP
This is one reason why I offered; I’m not deserving of the alpha-reader title. ? I only made a few observations and didn’t participate as much as other people did. It’s only a broad outline in my mind and I don’t remember the individual plot points.
My mind was preoccupied with school and doctor’s appointments, as I was stressing over both.
Therefore I officially ask you, would you like to be a beta reader for The Baron Chronicles?
Of course! I can certainly do that. It’s funny, I love editing stuff for fun. Friends’ writing, my own writing, it doesn’t matter whose or how much. ?
Tell me what type of feedback you want and I will give the story a thorough read. Would you like my email?

I was just chatting with the YouTuber guy…he doesn’t know how it ends yet, obviously, but from what he just told me, he’s gonna love it.
Yes, I somehow found myself with a group of people who I think represents a huge variety.
I’m not deserving of the alpha-reader title. ?
I’m still crowning you as Alpha reader. To me, I remember specifically getting excited when you posted on the forum for it.
My mind was preoccupied with school and doctor’s appointments, as I was stressing over both.
Fair. I’ve be stressing about school recently too, and that’s one reason I put editing it again off, and it’s my story.

December 18, 2025 at 10:28 pm #209283I will be on a week long vacation starting tomorrow. I am not sure how much of an internet connection there will be. But please continue when you feel up to it! If I do not reply within 24 hours, assume I’m out of reach.
On the bright side, it’s a quiet beach house and I’ll surely have time to write all day.
