Gabriel Mai
Gabriel reached up into his hair, untying the red ribbon holding on his mask. He set his mask down on a wardrobe by the bed, sighing. He glanced at Lucy, making sure she slept.
He took off his bag of plundered items, setting the hatchet on the floor, pulling out the scraps of leather, twine, and needle from the bag. Using his knives to cut the leather, he began fashioning the cover for the hatchet.
He took his time sewing together the leather with the twine, occasionally poking himself. At the slightest noise, he’d look up at the bed from where he sat cross-legged on the carpet.
Once finished, he slipped it onto the hatchet. It wasn’t perfect, but it was some protection to keep her from hurting herself. After staring at his handiwork for a few minutes, Gabriel decided it didn’t look near pretty enough with its rough, bare leather edges and twine stitching. He pulled out a witling knife, carefully carving a few flowers over the surface of the leather, with a few swirling lines of wind. It was crude, but he considered it better, and it occupied him for a while.
Once he was happy with the design, he cleaned it up as much as he could, then set the hatchet to lean against the bedpost, occupying himself with struggling to read the book they had found earlier, waiting for Lucy to wake up.

The mossy stone walls gradually turned to tall hedges and the dirt past filled up with green grass as Mel traveled through the maze. She took random turns, not bothering to keep track of where she was.
Soon the passage opened up into a large grassy area, speckled with a few small trees. The clouds and mists were clearer here, and the sun shone down onto a sparkling pond in the center of the clearing. A group of about five ducks paddled around in the water, quacking cheerfully.
Mel smiled and meandered over to the water’s edge. She plopped down in the grass to watch the ducks. It was peaceful here. The sun shone, the birds chirped in the trees, and a rabbit sat nibbling the plants nearby. Mel began to feel the exhaustion of the near constant walking for the past few hours begin to set in, and she laid down in the grass. Soon, the warm sunshine on her face and the gentle sounds of the splashing pond and the breeze rustling the grass all helped her drift off into a deep sleep.
She slept for a very long time.

Lucy fell into a doze. When she sometimes opened her eyes, a dream haze took over, and the wallpaper flickered, the flowers blooming against each other and cascading down the paper. Fuzzy orange light stained her vision. Her mind retreated into her body and she couldn’t bring herself to stir.
The labyrinth had been such a strange world. Filled with gore, pretty objects lost, and all manner of things. But where was it now? The more she lay still, under a warm quilt, the more the room felt like her familiar bedroom.
Maybe she was truly waking up; she would find her breakfast tin on the window cage, and eat while watching people walk below her window – all until the strange world melted away from her mind.
At last she blinked the haze out of her eyes. A light fell through a crack in the door. She tried to move and froze.
A form sat cross-legged at the foot of her bed. It was a man without a head.
He sat close, so close. His hands lay curled together in his lap. Tendrils of gray ash twisted out of his neck, embers sparking in the dark around his figure.
Shock slammed Lucy’s stomach. For what felt like forever, she could only lay still, paralyzed in the nightmare. She silently struggled. Then – “No. Go away.”
The nightmare doesn’t have to be a big deal, but it felt right for her character because she’s stressed and hasn’t had a chance to deal with it. My stress turns into weird dreams.

December 8, 2025 at 3:23 pm #209005ok we’re back!
trying something different here hehe, separating all three characters into their own POV.
I don’t think it’ll “chase” them per se, but I do have something interesting in mind.
Huntress
“Where’s Felicity at?” I asked, looking around. “She was right here a minute ago. People don’t just disappear.”
“How d’ya know that? Evidently we ‘just appeared’ when we first got ‘ere.” Sniper countered.
“Fair point.” I said, before a hissing sound made me turn around.
A dragonlike reptile launched itself at us, claws outstretched, coming straight for me. Its eyes were closed, strangely, but it was evidently tracking us by smell.
I whipped out my blade as it tackled me and attempted to slash at its face. I found purchase a few times, but it eventually pinned my arms. “This food hurtssss,” it hissed…in mostly-intelligible Anglian?
Soldier struck at it with his talons, trying to pull it off me. Sniper fired at it, and when that didn’t work he leaped at it and gave it a solid kick to the face with both talons. As he fell he hooked his claws onto its bigger set of wings, pulled himself on top of it, and attempted to turn its face away like he was steering a horse.
“Ssssstupid food thinks he can control me!” it shrieked, throwing him to the floor. Then it stopped. “He has scalessss….. like me….Interessssting, I’ll save him for later….” It began to open its eyes, and I saw golden light in them.
Now free, I stood up and drove my knife into its closest leg before it could fully open them. It shut them tightly again with a snarl and thrashed its tail.
I should’ve thought more about the tail.
It slammed me into the wall of the labyrinth, and I wasn’t aware of anything else.
Sniper
“Blasted lizard!” I snarled as it threw me off its back. I hit the floor hard, luckily not breakin’ anythin’.
“Sssstupid food thinks he can control me!” it said, and then stopped when it noticed my slowly windin’ tail. “He has scalessss….like me….Interessssting, I’ll save him for later….”
Its eyes slowly opened, blindin’ gold. Somethin’ was strange about the eyes….
Before I could figure out what, Huntress stabbed it in the leg. It screeched, closed its eyes again, and slammed its tail into her, flingin’ her backward. She hit the wall and fell to the floor.
“Jaylen!” I didn’t realize I’d shrieked her name until it was long outta my mouth already and I was dodgin’ lizard strikes to try to get to her. Soldier managed to distract it for a while, which gave me some help.
I crouched beside her to check her pulse. She was alive, thank the Redeemer, but she’d hit the stone hard and ‘ad been knocked senseless. I slipped my arms under her and picked up her limp form as Soldier delivered a final blow to the lizard and it ran off into the mist, hissing angrily about the “loud bird.”
“Soldier.” I called , and he answered. I stood up, Huntress draped over my shoulders*, as he asked if she was okay. “She’s alive, but we need to find a building or somethin’ to hide in while we wait for her to wake up.”
*Google said you should drag a person who’s been hit in the head or back rather than carrying them, but I had to move these three forward fast, ok? LOL
Soldier
The lizard ran off. I’D WON!
Sniper’s voice callin’ for me made me turn around. He crouched next to the fallen Huntress and picked her up.
“Is she…” I tried to lower my voice some. I’m not sure why. Maybe because she’s my friend, and I hate seeing my friends in bad places.
“She’s alive.” he said. “But we need a building or somethin’ to hide in while we wait for her to wake up. Or maybe there’s a medic or healin’ creature among the people ‘ere.”
I knew what he was asking. I’m the only one here who flies. Flying is amazing! Flying is fun! Flying is….
Oh, right, Huntress is hurt and I’m the only one that can help her.
I took off and wheeled around the area. Buildings….medics….If only our Medic were here! Or maybe not. (He might make it worse. Demo told me about the time he tried to take out his memories of something. I don’t remember what it was. Hey, maybe Medic took my memory of it, too.)
I heard cawing. Crows? Perhaps Systemic Crows (the best kind)?
They were not Systemic Crows. They were as big as me, but were normal boring birds, not true Ornithiforms (SHAME ON THEM). Nearby was a large building that seemed to stretch forever, further than I could fly. Perfect!
I swooped down low to where my teammates were. “That way!” I pointed. “I don’t know what it is, but it is shelter!”
Sniper followed me as I flew in that direction.
Soldier is so scatterbrained lol. This my first time ever writing anything from his perspective. It was…interesting.

December 8, 2025 at 3:27 pm #209006@whalekeeper you’re reading this RP too? That’s so cool!
my character’s voices if you want to have a baseline for how they sound:
-Huntress has a very subtle New England kinda accent. IDK if you’ve ever watched my videos, but some of them have my voice in them, and she basically sounds like that but a little less Florida and a little more Massachusetts (if you catch my meaning XD)
-Sniper has an Australian accent, I think I remember you saying you can’t do one but it’s also funnier if it’s bad lol
-Soldier’s voice is generically American, but it’s as growly as you can make it, and he’s also very loud.

December 8, 2025 at 10:28 pm #209009I really should have replied earlier, I’m sorry. I should be available now for a while if you’re having a night owl night, because I have a debate due this Wednesday and am not prepared really at all. Our resolution is “is Civil Disobedience in a democracy morally correct?” And um…I find it to be their attempt to make us learn while rigging our debate again, not happy, so I’ve been avoiding the work and instead doing a long, worthless digital presentation that might be completely riddled with inaccuracies. *Sigh* So I’ve got the Christmas music going, and we’ll see if I stay up until 5 AM again, then fall asleep until noon. I have a problem.
Also, props to Gabriel for being a responsible guy and making the hatchet a cover. I appreciate his efforts.
He was not going to let Lucy walk around and possibly trip on a blade edge. Carrying his knives for like ten minutes was one thing, this was another to him.
Gabriel Mai
“No, go away.”
Gabriel’s attention shifted back to Lucy on the bed. Her usually smooth forehead had a scrunched wrinkle. Gabriel watched the silent, subtle struggle in her face, the underwater voices in his ears growing louder. He swatted the air, as if the chase them away, then spoke, voice trying to sound reassuring, “Lucy, it’s okay.” He reached out a hand, rubbing her shoulder, gently, hesitantly, the way the Fourth did with him. The voices quieted a little.

(PS. Pfp by SelkieSeal on Unvale. My dear Chase ❤️?)December 9, 2025 at 5:14 pm #209015@rae oh that stinks, I had a speech and debate class that did like mock trials sometimes and I hated it. (they never rigged it, I just didn’t like how it worked)
my characters are currently heading your direction btw.

December 9, 2025 at 7:25 pm #209016Also, just so you guys know, I will be out of town for the next four days and won’t be able to reply to whatever you post until afterward, so, uh….yeah, don’t wait for me to RP, just keep going with yours until I get back. (Maybe we can hold off the two groups meeting until then idk.)

You’re fine! I was not up last night and I’m replying rather late now; it’s not a big deal for you to do the same.
How is your work going? I think I had the same debate topic once, not sure. I’m sorry it’s not a pleasant task for you. Also girl, late night roleplaying is fun but you need to get some sleeeep XD

I’m always nervous when I lead daycare and a kid has scissors. And this is more dangerous lol.
Okay! Have a good time doing whatever you’re doing irl. We’ll be here when you get back.

December 9, 2025 at 8:50 pm #209021They’ve had good a mock trial and some awesome debate issues in the past (like arguing the death penalty, but you can’t bring in the Bible, only from a logos, ethos, and pathos standpoint)
Sounds good!

Funnily enough, I fell asleep XD. The one night in which I was gonna do my debate, and I actually sleep.
My work is done, I got my Negative argument all formulated, now it’s just doing it tomorrow without a panic attack. Now that that’s done, I’m chilling and redrawing Baron artwork.

The headless man lifted a hand. His fingers trembled feebly as he held them up to his neck, as if trying to see them. He jerked back as he realized his eyes were gone.
“Lucy, it’s okay.”
Lucy snapped free of paralysis. The figure’s ashy skin peeled away, like petals wrinkling into brown dust, and he vanished from the foot of her bed. It was like a conversation cut short before it started.
Lucy breathed again. She blinked awake, furrowed her brow, and tried to recover herself.
