      Lucille

Lucy lay curled up. She pressed her face into the jacket and the fabric on her skin eased her tight breaths. Time faded; maybe an hour passed, but it didn’t matter. Enough time passed for her senses to fade, replaced by the feeling of her mother next to her on the couch. An arm wrapped around her shoulders so she could hide in the muffled darkness.

Lucy, tears threatening to spill, wrapped her arms around herself and hesitated. Her hand pressed against something cool and metallic around her neck.

It was a necklace with a charm. It must have dangled from her neck when she hung off the amphitheater wall. So why hadn’t she noticed it then? The gold glittered, cast in light and shadow under the branches.

      Wait. What if…

Lucy held the charm by its chain, farther into the light. It wasn’t the only pretty thing near her. If she could just find more chains, strings, strands of some kind – and more reflective trinkets – there was at least one plan to follow.

It was a horrible plan, but she had nothing else to try.

She dug into the branches, finally pulling out a long, crooked pipe. It stretched a couple feet longer than her. The end hooked backwards on itself, like a broken eye in a needle.

She dug around some more and began tying objects to the pipe. Jewelry – mostly necklaces – lay in the bottom of the nest, forgotten in the tangle. A string of glass electric lights. A crown. A copper pot lid. It was much harder than stringing a spiderweb around a twig, and it was important for everything to stay together. When all else failed, she used some metal shrapnel to rip her shirt at the shoulder. The fabric strips tied the last pieces together.

When she was done, Lucy was reminded of a robot she saw at a display once. Her new invention looked like a robot’s cotton candy. The pole shone when she twisted her grip on its base. Now the only thing left to do was climb through the mess and lay, waiting, at the top.

Her opportunity sat in the nest. The crows still cackled and pecked at each other. They had poor memories. None of them bothered to search for her, and they were fighting over something else.

Lucy waited until one of the crows hopped closer. It turned and tucked its wings away, as if to say, I’m not leaving yet.

Lucy steadied herself and leaped onto its back. Black feathers engulfed her; she grabbed them with one hand tightly, and held out the decorated pole with the other.

The crow cocked its head, interested. The pole transfixed it. As it thrust its beak out, Lucy threw the pole off the tower, and they both tumbled after it.

She was in flight. Her body lifted over the crow’s back, one hand still holding its feathers. The ground rushed up to meet her, She was made of thin air, weightless, wind rushing into her eyes and striking her cheeks.

I apologize for any mistakes, and also for taking so long.

        I’m tired.

No problem at all. You mustn’t apologize, dear Miss Cranberry Sauce! I do not expect you to reply right away.

          Huntress/Sniper/Soldier

“Yes. Good idea. He was at the entrance of the labyrinth. I think he might be the one who brought us here. As for where he is…” Felicity thought for a second before speaking up again. “Do you know how to trap rabbits?”

“I’ve never done it before, but it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.” I said.

“Can’t be too different from trappin’ goanna lizards, or bilbies, or any other smaller creature.” Sniper agreed.

“I have caught rabbits before!” Soldier told us. “They’re fast, and very bite-y! But I could capture one! Do you need it alive or dead?”

“Depends.” I addressed Felicity next. “What do we need a rabbit for? Or do we just have to capture something small like a rabbit?” I asked her.

The problem is not what I want to write, I just genuinely hate my writing style right now.

            The Protector — Gabriel Mai

As the crows above cackled and argued, Gabriel’s attention was drawn to something silver falling from the tower. A crow dived after it, and among its black feathers was a spot of color on its back. Gabriel called out, hope ringing in his voice. “Lucy?”

Aw man… If it’s any consolation to you, I enjoy reading your rps! You’re doing a great job and if you’re frustrated with something, whatever it is, usually that means you’re getting better.

              Lucille

Lucy tumbled over the crow’s back and landed on the ground. The crow’s focus shifted and it instantly chose to stride toward her.

There was so much clear ground. Nothing to hide under. But Lucy picked herself up and ran, falling over her own feet. She almost picked up the pipe too, to ward off her attacker, but thought better of it. If she hid under a thick hedge, that would be the end of it.

Her legs burned. A sharp ache made her knees twinge, and her breath grew so tight that she started wheezing. Each breath cut through the air and sliced back into her throat.

If she could just run a little faster…

It’s painful to read, but thanks I guess.

                The Protector — Gabriel Mai

It, indeed, was Lucy. She tumbled unceremoniously from the mass of black feathers. The crow shifted its attention from the shiny silver, to her, and she ran, the crow chasing after her.

Gabriel’s blades were out in a moment, boots digging into the ground as he ran for the crow. His blade sliced into the side of the wing first, ensuring it wouldn’t fly away, before he sliced its throat, without mercy. The crow let out a coarse, gurgled cry, and all the other crows looked down at Gabriel. He turned his head to look at Lucy. “Run! Get into the maze and hide! And don’t do anything stupid this time!”

Black, feathery voids dropped down from the top of the tower.

It’s not painful to read. You describe things clearly, there are varied sentence lengths, and you suggest emotion at sprinkled points through the sections. You also don’t harp on descriptions, which is something I struggle with.

                    Lucille

Lucy did not run without the Protector. She grabbed his arm and yanked him forward, pointing. “No – Th-that way!”

The tower had an opening at the base – a scuffed metal lid. She hadn’t noticed it before and now it was far from them both. But the crows’ shadows grew around them and the Protector surely couldn’t fight them off. He would be too hurt.

                      The Protector — Gabriel Mai

Gabriel nodded, his jaw tight, knowing Lucy couldn’t get there in time. He judged the distance, and the closeness of the crows, but before he finished thinking, he sheathed his daggers and scooped Lucy up, apologizing, remembering how she kicked him last time. Then he ran for what felt like the millionth time that day, closing the distance between themselves and the tower. He dodged a few of the crows as they swept down close, his boots tearing up the grass by the sheer speed in which he ran. His heart pounded in his ears. This was fast even for him, he couldn’t keep it up for long. One slip of his foot could send him and Lucy smashing into the ground, at the mercy of the crows. A swooping crow snagged his shoulder, his foot slipped, and he smashed into the ground, shoulder taking the brunt of the force. He tossed Lucy forward, closer to the tower, only a few feet for her to run, before he turned around and drew his blades, getting to his feet. He couldn’t run from the crows anymore.

He also knew Lucy would probably not run for the tower unless he went with her. He backed up slowly. “Go. I’m right behind you.” The red veins crept up his weapons again.

Of course! And I understand hating your own writing. I was looking at my old roleplays a bit ago and they hurt my brain.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to describe things thoroughly even though it’s tedious at times. Cuz afterwards I’m glad to have done it.

                            Lucille

The tower’s door had a warped surface and a handle. Lucy tugged. When that didn’t work, she slipped both her arms through the handle and put her feet on the frame for leverage. She was young, but she was a warden’s daughter, and she would force this if her life depended on it.

Her arms whitened, fit to break from the pressure. She kicked herself back, still wrapped to the handle. The door burst open. Warm shadow beckoned her inside.

Lucy went to stubbornly grab the Protector’s arm again. “I’m behind you too.”

Gabriel nodded, backing closer to the door, before spinning around, tumbling inside with Lucy and shutting the hatch, darkness enveloping them as the crow’s talons scraped against the rough metal, their screeches of frustration cutting through the fog outside.

Inside, the air was stale but strangely warm. Gabriel sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder where the crow had clipped him. It was nothing but a cut, not too deep. A minor pain to him.

“Did they hurt you? Are you okay?” He asked Lucy. His blades gave off a faint glow in the darkness, along with the rune over his eye, enough to illuminate him in an eerie glow. He looked more villainous than heroic in the red light.

The darkness was warm and comfortable in comparison to the outdoors, where they had wandered in the clammy mist for so long. Protector’s blades glowed like light through rose-colored glass. He turned them over in his hands and his hair lit up, twice as red, almost artificial.

His question finally registered. Lucy shrugged. She held her arms out for him to see. She was bleeding; at some point she must have tuned it out because it wasn’t important.

                                  Gabriel Mai — The Protector

Gabriel untucked his shirt, cutting along the hem in a long strip, then cut another one. He pulled the vial disinfectant from his pocket. “Hold still.” He took her arm, trying to be gentle, but he knew it would sting. He silently cursed himself for leaving salve in his cottage and not slipping it into his pocket as well before going out the night he had been whisked away. There was no point in trying to make one either as if he even found the right herbs, it’d take over 6 weeks. After applying the disinfectant, he wrapped her arms as best he could, also wishing he had slipped bandages into his pocket.

“There.” He sighed, both satisfied and not. “How does it feel?”

I think you can tell, but Gabriel has kinda developed a big brother attitude towards Lucy (which will be awkward if she ever becomes Barnes again) but he has no idea what to call it, or how to explain it because he never had any siblings.
