Barnes is self’s >:[ (XD)
@rae and WhaleyCassius and Leander
“It’s not the same thing as my mental illness.” Cassius said dully. “Those birthmarks don’t defect your behavior. They don’t cause others to hate you and judge you. My three selves may not share memories. But we do share emotions. That is why I like Princess Celestia so much. She enjoys the company of my three versions. She even interviewed us. She connects with us and doesn’t judge us.” Cassius kept his receptive tone… but there was something else… Like he seemed close to a smile. “And that is why Arnan likes Leander. Because I secretly find pleasure with having him around. But Arnan just expresses that more.” Cassius lowered his voice so Leander wouldn’t hear.
“Huh? Did I hear my name?” Leander looked over. “This doesn’t concern you Leander. I am only telling these two because I have high expectations that I will never see them again.” Cassius cleared his throat. “But let us not waste anymore time. We have the crystals to collect, and I suggest we collect them.” Cassius brushed himself off.

The Protector—Gabriel
“Yes, my birthmarks aren’t a mental illness, but that doesn’t mean that people don’t hate me, or judge me. If I was not the Protector, if I didn’t wear the mask, if I didn’t hide the birthmarks, I would have been killed by the people I protect everyday.” Gabriel clears his throat again, volume raising slightly, so that Leander could hear. “Anyways, you’re right, Cassius, we should find those crystal orbs. Does anyone dare sleep through the night, or shall we go on and sleep in the day?”

I shall be off for that anxiety-causing doctor visit tomorrow, so I shall not reply until that is finished.
Barnes
“I can keep first watch,” Barnes said quietly. She stood a little off from the others, farther down the path, waiting for them to follow. The sky was still washed with violet.

Cassius and Prince Leander
“I can tell you are attempting to lift my spirits. But it doesn’t matter.” Cassius had his hand covering part of his face. “But I’ll tell you know… that doesn’t matter. My spirits are always comfortable at lukewarm. They will never go up nor down.” Cassius yawned. “Now. Let’s get some sleep.” His voice more still and bland than before. “I’m tired of standing here. And I’m worried if I don’t get to bed, one of them will take over.” Cassius lay down in the dirt, using his cloak as a bed.
Leander shrugged and lay down on the dirt.

Selfish because she keeps everything to herself XD
Barnes
Cassius and Leander, one after the other, lay down on the moss. Night had not fully fallen yet, and the other adventures in the labyrinth surely still walked around – but both boys seemed tired from the walk. Their emotional outbursts had not helped their energy either.
Barnes paced away, down the side of the path they were on. She had to shift her weight like a cat, because the moss sloped on either side like snow on either side of a road. Walking that way left less tracks, and might come in use later.
When she came to the edge of the hedge wall, sixty feet away from the other people, the shrubbery changed. The hedge transitioned to an azure blue. The leaves shivered as the young woman passed, like songbirds fluffing their feathers.
Barnes found a solid spot on the ground, and crouched down to brush away the leaves. A carved stone step lay underneath. She sat down and folded her hands, content to watch the plant life for a few hours.
Gabriel’s footsteps approached. Barnes glanced back and patted the stone next to her.

May 20, 2025 at 7:21 pm #203213How did the doctor visit go?
The Protector—Gabriel
Gabriel hesitated, before sitting on the stone, bringing his knees up to his chest. He tensed at the slightest noises, eyes darting to where Cassius and Leander slept. “Uh… so do you want me talk like the Protector, or like…my other persona? Or just not talk at all.”

Great! The tube down my nose felt a little like an alien trying to take over my mind, and they fed me a tone of questionable green food. Next month, they want me to drink radioactive fluid. I low-key love hospital visits though because the smell of hospitals is so nostalgic. I guess that’s not normal, but whatever. XD

Barnes
“I don’t care. Whatever you like to do.” Barnes pulled out a box of cigarettes and lit one of them. Instead of taking a draw on it, she held it at a distance from them and let the smell waft through the air. “ Ah. If this bothers you, at least speak then.”

Cassius and Leander
Cassius woke up. He looked up at the two sitting there. He walked behind them silently. “I do not wish to disturb your bonding, but I smell smoke. Perhaps an imbecile lit part of the maze on fire.” Cassius said with little worry or anxiety in his tone. “I suggest we lea-” Cassius stopped and looked down at the cigarette in Barnes’ hand. “What is that?” He asked, looking down at it. Barnes explained what it was. “A… cigarette? How fascinating. I have never heard of it.” Cassius looked past Barnes and Gabriel. “So its purpose is to bring pleasure to someone?… Interesting. Pleasure is always a bad thing. It is immoral. Name one thing that brings someone pleasure that isn’t bad for your health or mind….” Cassius waited. “And I don’t mean something that brings someone happiness or joy. I mean something that brings you pleasure. And things that bring you pleasure are always addicting. For example, drugs, or alcohol. Another one may be… you know, I am not going to say that.” Cassius shrugs.

Barnes
“…I’m not smoking,” Barnes said. She still held it at arm’s length. “I only lit it for the scent.”
She glanced back at Cassius, then turned back to stare at the labyrinth passageways she guarded. The exposition about pleasure irked her, but she held her tongue. He meant well.

The Protector—Gabriel
The scent of the smoke invaded Gabriel’s nostrils. It sickened him, but he remained silent, listening to Cassius’s talk about pleasure. Internally, he wondered if happiness and pleasure were different, and if they were, how were they different. A small plop sound woke him from his thoughts. He stood up suddenly, looking around him for the culprit that made the noise. He couldn’t smell anything above the smoke. Another soft plop. It was right near him. Gabriel looked around again, until realizing it was merely ash falling from the cigarette.
“It was nothing,” He reassured Barnes and Cassius, as he settled down on the rock again, before stretching his back like a cat does.
Gabriel has very sharp senses, that’s why he seems to be affected more than a normal person by the sound of falling ash and the smell.

May 20, 2025 at 9:48 pm #203221Have you ever given a charrie of yours a weird mannerism that you have yourself?
A few of my charries like to sleep in a fetal position, or curled up around a pushie or blanket. And Gabriel stretches similar to a cat. Mannerisms I sometimes have.
