Hey, y’all. I wasn’t ever the *most* active person here, but the longer its been since I’ve been able to be here, the more I’ve missed it. I really want to get a lot of writing done over the summer, since it looks like there won’t be a whole lot else to do, and this place will be good motivation.
I used to write a lot of fantasy, but I’ve since discovered that my strengths lie more along the lines of genre fiction, poetry, and non-fiction research pieces (I enjoy baseball for example, and am able to get deeper than most people into the nuts and bolts of *why* players are good, and then explain it well).
I love music, comedies, and hanging out with people, and will be going to college in NYC starting this fall. I turn 19 on Sunday, and spent last year inner-city volunteering in Gary IN, as well as working as a paraprofessional with special needs children. Honestly though, if you ask me about myself, I’m more likely to deflect it and ask about you instead, so live with it.

May 13, 2020 at 4:15 pm #81273@josiahdeboerofficial Happy birthday! Might I ask what the creature on your cover image ought to be called? I was gonna call it a kiwi but then I saw that it also had characteristics of a mosquito. So now I’m debating between “moskiwito” and “fruit-sucker cannibal”. What say you?

If hours don't turn into daysMay 13, 2020 at 5:00 pm #81287Hi! Wow, that is so cool- from fantasy to nonfiction. Totally admire that. I mostly write his-fic, personally. I’m jealous of your upcoming NYC presence, lol… my current WIP is partially set there, and I wanna travel that area so bad bc of it! XD That’s really awesome, though. What are you going to study?

May 13, 2020 at 5:46 pm #81295@devastate-lasting I have no idea. I find the idea of a kiwi squared amusing (the beak of this creature is actually quite similar to a real kiwi bird, so that’s surprisingly biologically accurate). It was more a product of me having no idea what picture to put, and copying over my discord PFP.
@selah-chelyah To be totally honest, I’m undecided. The school I’m going to doesn’t have math or science (thank goodness) so basically anything they offer would work out for me. I chose the school more because of the culture than anything else. I was fascinated by the idea that it could both interact with the world, and also maintain a firm and central Christianity, which wasn’t a pairing I saw done well in many other schools.Seeking to love those I do not know/ failing to let that love show
May 13, 2020 at 5:48 pm #81296That’s really cool, and I can totally understand that. Sounds really amazing!
Btw, is DeBoer your last name? Is there historical anythings related to it that you know of? XD I have a thing for names and history…

May 13, 2020 at 8:22 pm #81320@josiahdeboerofficial Ohhh so its nose is natural. Gotcha. I’ve only had experience with mosquitos. Bad ones, to say the least.

If hours don't turn into daysMay 13, 2020 at 9:03 pm #81326@josiahdeboerofficial Hello, henchman of the kingdom’s ranking guide. I’m also planning to get a lot of writing done this summer. Happy birthday! I write poetry (a lot), and fantasy primarily, and I’m also interested in writing essays and biographies. But enough about me and all that rot.
I enjoy baseball, too! What’s your favorite team; mine’s THE Braves.
May 13, 2020 at 11:56 pm #81360@selah-chelyah DeBoer is the Dutch phrase for “the farmer.” I’m dutch, and my last name is boring. My first name is actually a lot more interesting from an etymological point of view, but that’s a whole big story
@devastate-lasting I mean I can’t quite promise, as I’ve never had the pleasure of owning a pet kiwi (seems quite on brand for these forums, however.)@leon-fleming I’m a Twins fan, although I’ve kept up with the Braves fairly well over the years. I’m especially excited to see if Comargo ends up starting at 3rd or if that becomes Austin Riley’s job this year

May 14, 2020 at 1:48 am #81363Oh, that’s cool! I like using language changes in pennames as well. (Chelyah is Hebrew for my second name, Selah being my real Hebrew first name. XD Hopefully that makes sense.) A whole big story? Lol. Sounds cool. 🙂

May 14, 2020 at 10:20 pm #81406@josiahdeboerofficial Cool, the Twins. I don’t know much about them. My family usually watches the season and postseason (etc) games, but it stinks that everything’s postponed, huh? Yeah, Camargo’s got a cannon for an arm! That was too bad that Donaldson got traded, though. He really added some life to the game. And then there’s Austin Riley…he’s got a whole lot of potential, but he needs to work out some kinks.
May 15, 2020 at 3:26 pm #81436@selah-chelyah That’s awesome! The biblical themes of Hebrew make it one of my favorite languages, little as I can understand it haha
@leon-fleming We signed Donaldson away from you so there 😛
