No worries! It’s all good!
Yes, I tend to write when I have nowhere to put my emotions lol (And I have a lot of them!)
Hmm… I don’t know if you would call it unsupportive. Definitely they don’t read my work or anything, but that is partially my fault. (Although, I don’t think anyone of them would want to read it anyway…) They don’t look down on it or anything. One of my brothers will listen when I just have to rant about my WIP, but that’s about it. To be… brutally honest, only one person reads my writing XD So… I struggle a lot with seeing the point in writing. I mean, I like writing, but if it’s not really doing anything for anyone, I fail to see if it’s a beneficial thing. I know it helps me sometimes a little if I have lots of things built up inside my brains, but other than that, I just…
I don’t know. How about you? Do you struggle with an unsupportive family/the problem I do? (Only if you want to share, of course 🙂

I used to do that, too; it’s changed and I’m not exactly sure what I do with my emotions, anymore, lol. I do still write at times when my emotions are high, though. It is relieving, to say the least. (I have a lot of them, too!)

My family doesn’t read my writing, either, but that’s on me. I don’t want to share it with them, partially because I’m scared to share but mostly because I don’t want to share because I’m pretty sure they’ll disapprove of what I’ve written (mostly talking about my mom).
I understand that. I’ve been there, and the way I looked at it was: first it will help me, then I will get to the point where I start to share, and after that I can see whether it helps others and decide whether I continue or not. (I do share with other people now, just not family, and I have decided to keep writing, because they seem to enjoy it and it seems to help them.)
I don’t know. How about you? Do you struggle with an unsupportive family/the problem I do? (Only if you want to share, of course 🙂
Ummm, yeah, kind of. The way it is with my family is: I’m the writer and nobody else writes. There’s a disinterest among my siblings about my writing, but no unsupportive-ness; they seem to get that writing is something pretty important to me. With my parents, they know that I write but struggle to understand why I write and I struggle to explain it to them, so there is a slight hostility towards my doing it, but I am a pretty reasonable person and they know that, and that I don’t spend all my time in my head writing and actually spend lots of time (more than they thought) thinking about the real world and how to get by in it, so they accept it. But, sometimes, they will get upset with me for writing and tell me I shouldn’t and be hostile towards it, but that’s not too often. They kind of seem to be trying to discourage it, but accept the fact that I write and won’t push me super hard to stop.
It’s difficult at times, and their attitude makes me unwilling to share my stories with them when they ask to read them; and they are not very attracted to fantasy, which is mainly what I write, so that’s another reason I have yet to show them anything I’ve written. (Oh, and my mom told me I couldn’t get the Wingfeather Saga from the library, so… *sigh* I’ll have to tell her to ask other parents about them, to get her to understand that they are good.) I don’t like letting my parents down, but it often feels like with my writing and my liking of fantasy, I’m letting my mom down big time (my dad less so) and it can be difficult.

May 3, 2022 at 7:59 pm #110301OK, I WANNA WRITE A BOOK FULL OF CLICHES THAT’S HILARIOUS!! BC I JUST HAD THE BEST IDEA FOR SOMETHING TO DO IN IT!!

May 4, 2022 at 4:59 pm #110423Hmm, interesting.
Yes, that’s kind of what it is around here. You were able to describe it much better than I! “Disinterest”! My parents aren’t hostile to it at all, which is nice, because I’ve heard of actually quite a few writing friends whose parents don’t really approve, especially of the fantasy genre. That has got to be discouraging when it feels as if your parents/mom is hostile to it. But it’s also good and refreshing to hear you still respect and honor them! I know a lot of people who wouldn’t.
I’ve been a writer my entire life, but I started seriously writing when my family started getting into board games! I don’t really enjoy board games, and so I needed something to do while they played. And, well, writing just ended up being a thing. So I, too, am the only writer in my family. Even in my extended family, really.
LOL that book idea XD That could definitely be fun! I’ve started a list of phrases that spark a short story idea, and I’m writing them down. So far, I only have three, but I only started it yesterday.
-(of?)Tea, Blankets, and Cats
-Jay Walker: “the earth is my street”
-Tears in a Teacup
so, slightly random, but anyway. XD
Random question, do you know what you would like to do in the future as far as career/lack thereof?
That’s all for now!

May 4, 2022 at 11:24 pm #110471I have a slight feeling that quite a few people begin writing because of wanting to sort out emotions, then just keep going. But that feeling is just a theory…
It does get discouraging when my mom is in a hostile mood towards writing. Thankfully, (as I may have mentioned before) she’s never forbidden me. Heh, I suppose I am. I respect my parents a lot, and understand their hesitations and worries; I have my own belief about things like fantasy, different from theirs, but I respect them and won’t go against them as long as they are not wrong. (Hopefully, with my healthy view of my parents, it’ll make my portrayal of good parents all the better, especially when viewing from the perspective of someone with the same mind-set as me (as I am in one WIP).)
Interesting! I began when I was about twelve and found some writing my oldest brother had done and wanted to imitate him, because I respect and admire him a lot, and back then I believed that if he did it, it was cool and definitely worthy of imitation. I seriously started about a year later when I began dealing with a lot of things (partly as a result of starting to write) and it helped me sort everything out and sometimes even find answers. One of my two oldest WIPs (I forget which one’s older, lol, but this is one that’s completely my own (the other I write/wrote with a friend)), this WIP began as a story about a girl struggling with similar things as me, then morphed to a young woman similar to me, but different, and trying to find out who she was, and now has morphed to a younger woman (19 years) trying to figure out what she’s doing with her life and who her biological parents are (because she was adopted off the streets, but has dreams about a mysterious person) and then gets caught up in events involving her adopted family that … well, I’m sure you know how the story generally goes. 🙂
I am the only writer in my family, and one of a very few in the extended family. Only maybe two others still write. My older sister once wrote, but gave up after a while. Most family (extended and no) who’ve begun usually stop after a short time, or go for a while then stop. I’m the only one I know who’s actually been writing for quite some time, and I’m pretty sure I’m the most serious about it.
(Honestly, if I’m talking too much, lemme know and I’ll stop. The best way to get me to talk about myself, really, is to talk about yourself and then I’ll reply in like, heh. If you’d rather not hear, just lemme know. 🙂 )
LOL that book idea XD That could definitely be fun! I’ve started a list of phrases that spark a short story idea, and I’m writing them down. So far, I only have three, but I only started it yesterday.
That’s a fun idea! What I actually meant was a STORY book, full of cliches, but intentionally, so it’d be like a comedy book. (Is there such a thing?) And I could write one for the different genres, like Romance, Mystery, Fantasy (and all it’s plots), etc. and it could be so much fun!
But what you mentioned would also be really fun! I’d be totally willing to team up and come up with a bunch of cliche twist ideas, heh.
Random question, do you know what you would like to do in the future as far as career/lack thereof?
Well, so far as writing, I do not expect to ever be big-name, so that’ll be more of a side job my entire life. I want to either teach or get married, and if I taught, I’d probably teach English. 🙂
What about you?

May 5, 2022 at 5:29 pm #110598(so I don’t have to be naming them with vague titles anymore:)
My oldest WIP that I’m writing with a friend, I refer to as: RotH
My other oldest WIP that I’m writing by myself, I refer to as: HofE
My newest WIP, the one I’ve probably mentioned most, about the mentor who dies, I’ll refer to as: FP,WS
Other smaller projects I will still vaguely refer to, lol.
( @godlyfantasy12 @unsung @koshka @denali-christianson @madelyn you may find this helpful.)

May 5, 2022 at 5:37 pm #110607Ooh, that is helpful!! That’s something I do too–refer to WIPS by their acronyms. (Which is funny, because WIP itself is an acronym. We writers like our acronyms, don’t we? XD)

May 5, 2022 at 5:55 pm #110615We really do. 😆 I bet its because we either have long and slightly confusing names or names we don’t want to completely reveal (as is in my case). Besides, who wants to say the entire title of a book when you can just say the acronym?
"[Write] today like there's no tomorrow!"
May 5, 2022 at 7:26 pm #110652Yeah that could be it!
Ooooo, yet again sounds like an amazing idea!
Hahaha! You don’t talk too much! I actually feel most comfortable with talkative people, I think, because my friends have mostly been that my entire life!
lol even if it’s not a thing, you could make it a thing! In the writing world, there are no bounds. And, as I like to say, fantasy is simply a whole bunch of exceptions to reality 😉
I would also be willing to team up and do that! Which brings me to another point: if you would like, I could give you my email, but only if you would like 🙂 Totally understand if not as well
Oooooo teaching English sounds fun!
The career I’m looking at right now is pro-life counseling, and I have a vague idea in my head to have like a ranch home/shelter for pregnant teens/teens with kids so you can create jobs for them, and then have all the Christian resources and stuff there… (XD That was probably confusing)
Also, thank you for the references!
ANNNNYWAY!
You are a very interesting and delightful human being! Your ideas are incredible, and I can tell you’re also a deep thinker.
that’s all for me now

Well, that’s a relief. Fun! I won’t feel bad talking, then.

Nothing like being a pioneer! Hehe, yep!
I would also be willing to team up and do that! Which brings me to another point: if you would like, I could give you my email, but only if you would like 🙂 Totally understand if not as well
We can just compile ideas for as long as we want! If you want to! I wouldn’t mind at all!
Oooooo teaching English sounds fun!
Fun and demanding. I have an aunt who teaches English and she enjoys it, but it can be exhausting. I think it would be worth the pain, though. 🙂

Less than you think. 😉 that sounds like a lot of fun! I live on a hobby farm with my family and it is very enjoyable.
Also, thank you for the references!
ofc, no problem!

May 6, 2022 at 12:46 pm #110723Hello, I believe we haven’t officially met though we have technically, so, uh…
Hi! I’m called Koshka around here, and I didn’t read through this whole thread so I most likely
Definitelydon’t know as much about you as I could. That sounded weird.
Anyway, I have read Lord of the Rings, and enjoyed it, but I’m not obsessed by the series (which I mostly my fault). However, according to a close friend of mine, who grew up with LotR, my twin and I look like elves. So whatever that means.
You like Louis L’Amour? Which is your favorite? (Mine is either Ride the River or Last of the Breed though it’s been years since I read, or rather listened to, any of his books) and you may have already answered that but…ah…
Your WIPs sound awesome!
And I can’t remember what else I was going to say so-
Welcome to the Kingdom!

Fork the GorkMay 6, 2022 at 11:03 pm #110779Hi! We have and haven’t yep! 🙂 It’s nice to meet you! I’m Clare, but you probably already knew that. 😉 That’s not weird at all, honestly. And I’m not surprised because there were only three pages, heh. I’d do the sam if there were that few. ;D
Interesting! Yeah, I wouldn’t exactly call my interest in LotR and Middle Earth obsession, tho it probably is, but I really really really enjoy it and have read LotR multiple times, as well as all the appendices at least once, and own the books, as well as the Silmarillion, and have read the Silmarillion and am generally highly interested in them, but… I don’t live and breath it, heh. I’d term it a healthy obsession, lol. 😀
I do! And I don’t really have a favorite, but it would be either: Ride the River, The Sackett Brand, or Ride the Dark Trail. I haven’t read Last of the Breed, yet, I’m really sad to sayyy. I should, but there are so many other books I’m trying to read to catch up on a year of being unable to read (and lemme tell you that reading rut was THE WORST THING EVER).
Thank you! 😊
Well, don’t be afraid to say it, if you do remember!
Thank you, and I hope I see you around more!

May 10, 2022 at 3:59 pm #110838So sorry for the late reply! I fear most my correspondents have been frightfully neglected these past few days…
Ooooo I would love to live on a hobby farm! What animals do you have?
Aww, thank you. Most the time I don’t feel like a very wonderful person lol
More about myself… hmmm…
My mind functions in little boxes! Whenever I think of a person, I can see them, and it’s made up of a mosaic of little, coloured boxes. the more I know the person, the more the boxes, and, therefore, the smaller the boxes and the clearer I can see them! So that’s one fact about me that I’ve discovered this past year is very odd and wild lol
how about you? What’s a strange fact about you?
No moment is wasted, that is spent on God's glory
May 10, 2022 at 5:25 pm #110841well, we have cows and a milk cow, dogs, chickens and cats, but my three other families of cousins have goats, a donkey, horses, sheep, ducks, and turkeys, as well as beef and milk cows. 🙂
Aww, thank you. Most the time I don’t feel like a very wonderful person lol
I think that’s all of us sometimes, heh.
That is odd, but so cool!!
Well, something kind of odd about me that’s sort of similar to that is: I’m like a sponge. If I watch something, I’ll unconsciously imitate the speech patterns and mannerisms and attitudes of the characters, and if I read something, I can also pick up mannerisms and such from the stories. So, I have to be careful what all I watch and read, and balance bad with more good, otherwise I’d be a huge mess.
It also makes it confusing sometimes to know who I really am, so I sometimes have slight identity crises.😅 So, yeah, that’s a strange fact about me.It sort of makes writing easier, because I can pick up mannerisms and stuff to test them out for characters. Writing also helps it because it helps me sort out everything, and I can assign specific things to specific characters and sort of “purge” them from me, by putting them into paper and specifically into characters.
May or may not be why so many of my characters are messes, too.😁
"[Write] today like there's no tomorrow!"
May 12, 2022 at 12:30 am #110893That sounds fantabulous! I think it would be so fun to live on a hobby farm! I want peacocks someday (although, they’re loud). and I do really want a horse someday (although, they’re expensive) XD
That’s very interesting and kinda cool! I know I’ve picked up on some of my friends’ mannerisms for sure! And the characters of books I read a little bit. But I actually pick up, mostly, on the mannerisms my own characters have! (Isn’t that strange??) and then, once I stop writing about that character, the traits will die out pretty quickly after that!
(Also, my life seems like a mess sometimes as well! Lol. sometimes all you can do is curl up in a fuzzy blanket and cry for a good ten minutes before falling asleep. On nights like that ((yes, I am assuming you’ve had those!)) do you tend to feel better, the same, or worse in the morning?)
A few questions (since my brain is finally picked up and going again somewhat tonight)
1. what is your favorite animal (real and fictional)
2. if you could have any animal as a pet (real or fictional, fully trained and a nice sidekick-pal) what would it be?
3.what is your favorite colour?
4. do you prefer candy, chocolate, or neither?
5. coffee or tea?
6. what do you think is the coolest name you have ever heard/thought of for fantasy names, one for male and one female?
Okay! Don’t wanna give you too much lol So I’ll end it there!
No moment is wasted, that is spent on God's glory
