      Hey!

      I am Clare, despite the whole EmilySF thing. (That’s a name I want to write under once I actually begin publishing my WIPs.)

      I don’t really know how to do an introduction thing, so I’ll just try to relate a few (hopefully helpful) things about me.

      I am … many things. (Sorry. Today is kind of moody for me. It’s two years exactly since the day the girl who started me writing died of cancer.)

      I am an avid Tolkien fan, and enjoy many of the good fantasy worlds I’ve entered through books. Tolkien is my main inspiration, though. C. S. Lewis is another fantasy writer I admire, but I admit that I haven’t read many of his works beyond the Chronicles of Narnia.

      I have a passion for writing, particularly fantasy, but I do dip into other genres at times. I thrive on world building, and enjoy it, even when it is hard. Especially when it is hard.

      I love reading, and although I love fantasy and write it mostly, I have read beyond fantasy into western, mystery, sci-fi, historical fiction, history books, and beyond. A smatter of many things, really.

      I have (probably too) many WIPs, and have been working on the first one since 2017. I have grown and the stories have grown, and I have learned and the stories have improved with my learning, but I still don’t know anything.

      I’m almost 18, too.

      I can’t think of anything else that might be important, except to mention that I have a few questions.

      First, where would a request for critique of a part of a novel go?

      Second, where would I post a topic for advice about villains?

      Third, how active is this forum? (to properly gauge my expectations for replies and such.)

      That’s all folk!

        Whatever-you-want-to-call-me it’s nice to meet you! (Though, I am not sure you really want to meet me! *Bwahahahaa-ah-ah-CHOO!!!*) You may refer to me as Your Royal Slowness, King Power of the Slugs. That, or if you want to make me sound deep and dark, you may refer to me as the Black Mongoose Lord. Or, if you want to really make it simple call me @power.

          @emilysf

          Welcome to Kingdom Pen!! It’s nice to have you.

          What are some of your favorite books?

          Just to answer your questions real quick…

          Where would a request for critique of a part of a novel go?

          Click “Community”, then scroll down until you find “Critiques” and then “Novel Critique Requests” under that. Click on that, scroll to the bottom, and write your post! 🙂

          Where would I post a topic for advice about villains?

          Probably under “Characters” (on that same”Community” page).

          How active is this forum?

          Fairly active! I’d say we usually have a few people posting every day.

          The best way to get replies to a new forum topic is to tag people (And, honestly, for that I usually just go to the bottom of the “Community” page and see who’s been active recently 😉 ). If you don’t tag people, you’ll still probably get replies, but not nesscarily as many.

          And as far as how quickly people reply, that just varies from person to person.

          Hope to see ya around!

            How do I reply? I had a reply all typed, and clicked submit, but it disappeared without seeming to have posted.

            well, that worked.

            Thank you for answering my questions.

            To answer your question about my favorite books, they include: The Lord of the Rings, Keeper of the Lost Cities, the Sackett series by Louis L’Amour, various Shakespearean plays, Pride and Prejudice, Rantisia: Search for the Ranta (which has some formatting mistakes but I still find enjoyable), The Rise of Ethrundson: Quest of a Thousand Questions (by someone I know), Daughter of Kings (by the girl who started me writing), and many more I’m forgetting.

                @emilysf, welcome!

                I’m new here myself, so I couldn’t answer many questions, but looks like Madelyn did a wonderful job of that!

                First off I want to say my heart goes out to you! Today must be a hard one. (I’ll be praying for you, that you might feel God’s comfort and peace!)

                How deep into Tolkien lore do you go? I have friends who are all-out Tolkien fans… does your enthusiasm for Tolkien border obsession? XP (For lack of a better way of putting it)

                And do you care to share any bits about your fantasy worlds/universes?

                Welcome, and I hope you can find many friends here 🙂

                  Thank you, @unsung. We can be new members together, then! 🙂

                  It is. Thank you.

                  I’d say I go 95% into being totally engrossed and learned and addicted. It is very very close to obsession, heh. I probably am not an all out Tolkien fan, like buying Tolkien stuff all the time, but I do love love love to read the books, and even dare to really like the Silmarillion and even the books about his process of writing the Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings and all of Middle Earth is *intense chef’s kiss*. 😁

                  Oooof, do I care to share them? Well, not my most recently started WIP, and one of my two oldest is still getting resettled since I changed a whole lot about it recently, adding and improving, but I might be convinced to share some details for my other oldest WIP. I might not be very willing to share details about it without convincing, though.

                  Anything in-between those three, I am willing to more freely share them. 🙂 I might do that in a different topic, though.

                  Thank you, and you too!

                      lol I know a few people who are about the same level! I am not quite that much of a fan myself, but I have many friends who are! (Also the Chef’s kiss made me giggle 😉

                      Lol it’s alright! I’m not going to squeeze anything out of you! I just know that sometimes I just want someone to rant to aobut my writing stuff, but I don’t do it unless others ask! So I just thought I’d ask!

                      As to where to put them… I have absolutely no clue XD And I don’t mind if they’re all in one or separate!

                      A few questions:

                      What is the significance of the “SF” on Emily?

                      Do you enjoy reading, and if so, what genre/series/author/etc. (Clearly Tolkien lol but besides him?)

                      do you enjoy spinach at all?

                      Do you like animals?

                      Annnnnd only one more for now, I promise! What’s your favorite kind of potato chip?

                      Well, that’s all for this Unsung (for now 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to ask as well!

                        Tolkien’s world building is amazing, and most of the reason I like his books so much, and then Sam is just so endearing. (I do enjoy making people laugh. 😉)

                        Well, I may rant at some point, and it is nice to know that I will have a welcome ear, when I do. 🙂

                        I don’t know either, so I’m going to wait a little bit to see if anyone else knows the answer.

                        So, the SF stands for Serina Felton, which are the rest of the names for the penname I want to eventually publish under: Emily Serina Felton. (Here I want to rant about why I chose those names, heh.) Originally I was just going to use Serina Felton and I chose those two names because they are somewhat related to “Serious about writing, now and forever” which is my phrase for myself, heh. To line it up: ‘Ser’ good with “serious”, ‘ri’ good with “writing”, ‘n’ goes with “now”, ‘a’ goes with “and”, and the ‘F’ goes with “forever”. Felton was just the last name I chose that started with F. And the Emily I added on because I liked the name after watching The Ultimate Gift, which has an Emily who dies from cancer, somewhat like the girl who inspired me t begin writing.

                        Well, that was long, but I hope you don’t mind. 🙂

                        I do enjoy reading! Reading is what’s helped me get better at writing in the past five years (along with Story Embers and Kingdom Pen and actually writing), and I read so much I don’t really have a favorite anything, so my practiced answer is Tolkien. Other authors/books/series I read include Louis L’Amour’s many westerns, Pride and Prejudice, Shakespeare, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Ranger’s Apprentice (the original 11), Shane, a lot of Bethlehem Books, classics like Silas Marner and Jane Eyre, then other semi-random titles like The Jungle Book, Around the World in 80 Days, and so on. There is no real way to categorize everything I read, but the books I own personally tend to be fantasy or western.

                        I am not a fan of spinach, despite having watched Popeye in my younger years.

                        I do enjoy animals, and my family has a hobby farm. My cousins and grandparents and other cousins also have hobby farms and we all own many animals of many different kinds. They include: cows, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, a donkey, horses, and milk cows. (My family and both families of cousins have a milk cow each.) I personally am a fan of cats and chickens. 🙂

                        Ohh, don’t ask… probably… just plain Ruffles. Or baked plain Lays. Those are good, too.

                        I can ask you a few questions!

                        Do you read much and what do you read?

                        Do you like animals?

                        What have you learned about writing that has really helped you? And how well would you classify your writing skills? (If you want to tell.)

                        Feel free to ask me what you want!

                          @unsung

                          Since I can’t really figure out where to put it, I’m just going to rant about one of my projects here.

                          The first is just a fun story I’m working on with characters submitted by a bunch of people in another forum I’m on. It is set in a place called Bust, and has tons (200 actually marked down and used, but way more unexplored) of different spots called districts which each has its own setting and theme and it kind of like just a snippet of a world on its own.

                          The districts are attached by “string theory!” To explain (😂), there are strings that people use to travel from district to district, because you can’t just walk to each one like you could in the real world walk to a park. There are different sets of strings accessible to different people, each working slightly differently, and in different colors so it’s easier to tell. Finding the strings can be a little difficult (on purpose) and makes it fun for those watching someone trying to leave, if the person doesn’t have anyone helping them.

                          Bust was so named because it was originally meant to be “where people reach when they don’t reach their destination after saying something like ‘the moon or bust!’” Now, it is more a representation of my brain and the weirdness and orderliness and all that of my brain at different times. 😆

                          Bust is run by it’s only permanent residents: me, but in various different forms and with specific traits amplified, and each one belonging to a specific district, with one elected person as the head of them. These me’s have access to the blue strings (the best ones, and my favorite color) and control of them, and they are of unlimited power and can do whatever they want: move people from district, move residential animals/creatures from district to district, and move object from district to district, and without actually requiring the me’s to be touching the string to make it work. (A rule for the other strings.)

                          The story is really fun because I’m putting in so many secret references to things I’m obsessed with and characters I like and quotes from things that are amazing and so much fun, especially when people don’t (and when they do) notice. I also really like the story because I get to take some super powerful characters and just humiliate them and make fun of them, because the me’s are supreme in Bust. (And there’s this one district where a giant makes you clean out his stables before you can leave and it’s like the fairytale where the guy has to use the handle of the shovel to actually get it clean, which’s used as the punishment district because it’s fun to watch the super powerful people wading through much trying to figure it out. 🤣)

                          The plot of the story is that there are two sides to Bust and the two sides are starting to get agitated with the other and fight between each other, and the characters find themselves assigned to a side and it’s kinda pointless, but it’s mostly just to help me practice my humor and give the readers a fun time.

                          It’s fun, and fun to write, and I have already existing fictional characters in it, which is even more fun. 😀

                          "[Write] today like there's no tomorrow!"

                            @emilysf

                            I saw the word TOLKIEN and knew we had to be friends. WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!!

                            I’d say I go 95% into being totally engrossed and learned and addicted. It is very very close to obsession, heh. *busts into discussion* I HEARD THE WORDS “THE SILMARILLION” *squeals* WE MUST RANT. I warn you, however, I’m 99.8% totally engrossed and on the very very very ragged edge of obsession. If I was not a broke human who needed to spend money on things like food then I would probably be buying Tolkien stuff… *pointedly ignores the Evenstar necklace sitting on the counter*

                            ALSO FANTASY IN GENERAL. Yes. Just… just yes. *stares longingly at my five fantasy worlds that my brain jumps between throughout the day*

                            Also question: has you read The Wingfeather Saga? AND IF YOU HAVE AND SAID SO AND I MISSED IT I’M SORRYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

                            I was one way, and now I am completely different. And the thing that happened in between was Him.

                              (At least I saved my reply elsewhere before submitting it)

                              @denali-christianson

                              THANK YOU!! I’d love to rant!! (Forgive me if I haven’t read the book in a while, though. I got into a reading rut that lasted more than a year and haven’t worked my way back to Tolkien level, yet, unfortunately. I’m getting closer every day, though! (And it was awful.))

                              Haha! I’d be more obsessed if I had the funds to support it, heh. I’m possibly more obsessed than I let on, but it’s been a while so it’s faded a little. (My greatest accomplishment, though, is reverse psyching one of my little brothers into reading The Silmarillion. 🤣) Aaa! Lucky you!! I’d love that necklace!!

                              YESSSSS!! I know, right?? I MAJORLY LOVE world building and so fantasy is like MY THINGGG! *hides my three extra special fantasy worlds*

                              I have nottt, but!! BUT BUT BUT! I put them on hold at the library and should be able to get them soon! Fingers crossed, though, that I can get them before going on a trip.

                              Ohh, I may want to swap worldbuilding tips with you at some point… (does anyone know if there is a worldbuilding advice/conversation topic, yet?)

                                  More on Bust:

                                  The only way to leave Bust is by getting on a very specific train and riding it out.

                                  There aren’t many laws in Bust besides the more secular ones of the Ten Commandments, but there are rules about how Bust works, which allows for fictional characters to visit it.

                                  Anyone can get to Bust, through any means, and always on accident. Wherever the character is pulled from in their story, when they leave Bust, they revert back to that moment and it is as if they never left. Everything mental, physical, etc that happened to them while in Bust is undone (which is somewhat because they can have amazing growth or therapy or something but once they back, it’s basically pointless 😢). This rule prevents events in Bust from affecting stories and their characters, while also allowing for everything that happens in Bust to be considered canon (the awesome side of the deal).

                                  ANYWAY… it’s fun. 😁 The rule also means I can take the characters on whatever arc I want without consequences, heehee.
