I don’t usually scream for help, but I’ve got a problem here I can’t figure out and I was hoping you guys had some ideas.
It’s really simple.
I need a name for my series. Its current name is ‘Generations’ but that isn’t dramatic enough for me. I just need a word (I’d like to keep it a one word title if I can) that means basically the same thing but is unusual and zaps you the moment you read it. You know about those words. 😉
Neither my dictionary nor my thesaurus have been any help, so I figured I just give it a stab on here.Any ideas? Pretty please?
November 18, 2015 at 12:55 pm #7479You might have to give up your one word dreams. I don’t think there is a word for generations that is dramatic.
I’m guessing you are going with this title because each new book will be the story of the next generation in a heroic line. If so, I think what is more important is the passing along of characteristics, heirlooms, or values from one generation to the next rather than that your characters are all related. Do you think so? Deciding this might change the way we approach this issue.

November 18, 2015 at 1:38 pm #7487I actually thought of that, but the problem is I start at almost the very end of the story, then go all the way back to the beginning… um, let me give some backstory.
This is basically an ‘historical’ series. The first two books are set in the eleventh age (eleven thousandth year) of my make-believe whatever-you-call-it. Then I go all the way back to the second age, and go from there through ages three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten, then skip eleven and jump to twelve.
So it’s not a passing on of values. It’s all mixed up. 😛I think the message that would sum up the whole thing is basically history is invaluable. Without history, we have nothing. The point I’m making with this series is that if we didn’t come from anywhere, we’re not going anywhere. If we have no beginning, then we have no end. And if that’s true, nothing matters.
And… and… *lip quivers, big puppy-dog-eyes fill with tears* you mean… *sniff* you mean I can’t have my… my… my one word dream? *Sniffsniff* I’ve… I’ve been dreaming… all my life. And now… *tears slide down cheeks and over quivering lips* you’re telling me I have to just let go of it? *quivering intensifies* WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
November 18, 2015 at 2:27 pm #7494Chronicles is a cool word that has to do with history. Could it be The Chronicles of (whatever)?
Also I looked up history in the thesaurus and came up with Yesteryear. It’s a cool word, but I’m not sure if that’s what you want. Maybe Yesterage or something. 😉 Make up a word or merge two words together to get what you want.

INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
November 18, 2015 at 3:31 pm #7501How about:
We are sons of heroes
The kings who came before us
Tales of yesterage
They sailed through bloody seas (borrowed of course. This one is certainly dramatic buy you have to balance it with its grimness)
They lived like usOr if you must have it be one word.

November 18, 2015 at 7:12 pm #7519Hm… I like all those as titles, but as the name of a series… I don’t know. The ‘Remember’ Series?
I’ll play around with it some more and see if I can come up with something. I like the chronicles idea, Hope, it’s just so many fantasy stories are the chronicles of something. I may do the something chronicles, though. I don’t know. Thanks for your suggestions anyway, guys! 🙂 ‘Preciate it!
November 18, 2015 at 7:23 pm #7520How about the “Remembrance” series?

November 18, 2015 at 7:27 pm #7522Hey… I like that.
I like that.
Yeah… yeah, I’ll definitely think about that.
*goes off muttering to herself.* Remembrance… Remembrance… Rembrandt… no no no, don’t say that. Remembrance. Remembrance. I like that.
November 27, 2015 at 1:45 pm #7701What do you guys think of ‘Children of Memory’ or ‘Generations of Remembrance’? Nothing’s final— I’m still working, but I want your opinion.
November 27, 2015 at 2:37 pm #7702Children of memory sounds good. I don’t think someone who has never read your books would know what it means though. It could mean a lot of things.
Generations of remembrance doesn’t sound right. Tales of remembrance would work though.
