Wow, we do share quite a few favorite authors! Chuck Black has some very good books. I’ve only read his Arethtrae series. (If I spelled that right.)
You like researching/designing fashion? Approximately, what eras hold the most interest for you, and what do you enjoy about it?
Personally, I enjoy learning about and recreating old clothing because I love history, and anyway, it’s great for world building! (Plus, hey, dressing up is fun.) 😉

December 14, 2021 at 4:38 pm #107874@annabelle Sure thing! And that’s so cool about all the fashion stuff. Your story sounds really interesting!
I totally get that about Psalms. It is poetic and emotional, I really like it for that reason.
It’s so nice to meet you! Hope to see you around the forums 🙂
December 14, 2021 at 4:43 pm #107875I do like to design fashion, although it’s a more recent interest of mine so I don’t know a lot about it yet. Basically, all I do is search variations of “modern fashion design” on Google, then use some of the ideas to create my own.
Yeah, old fashion is kind of a good thing to research for world-building. I do that sometimes because the main character in my book is a mermaid princess, so she has to have some fancy kind of clothing. And my book is also sort of a mix of modern/medieval theme. My main character is half-mermaid and half-human, so she switches between the modern world and the medieval ocean.

December 14, 2021 at 10:32 pm #107878@annabelle Oh, nice! I was homeschooled as well. And I still hand write a lot of things, for some reason.
It sounds like you guys make a good team! How many siblings do you have?

If hours don't turn into daysDecember 15, 2021 at 2:32 am #107879Hi! I’m Tráhia the Minstrel. Welcome to Kingdom Pen!
I like your website, by the way. I really enjoyed reading your post about book recommendations! I love that you love Viking Quest too! It’s my favourite series ever!😃😃😃
That’s cool you play piano. I learnt for 8 years, then stopped because I wanted to just play for fun … and because writing took up what had before been my piano/art passion.
I’ve been homeschooled my whole life as well! And it’s cool you love art! I also love art — and I think it’s epic you’re making a story about mermaids. Do you draw only Mermaids in the Mermay challenge, when for the entire month of May you draw only mermaids? If you have Instagram, you should follow @juliamanartreal. Her art is completely suitable, and she draws. So. Many. Mermaids.
I also read and liked the Wingfeather Saga. Have you seen the animated short movie they did of it? Leeli’s so cute in it! And the part where she sings to the sea dragons gives me chills😊.
A couple of questions:
— What’s your favourite TV show?
— What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Look forward to getting to know you!

That’s my wish to create.December 15, 2021 at 9:42 am #107880Hi, @trahia-the-minstrel!
I’m so glad you liked my blog. It took me a long time to put that post together, and I have to update it every so often because I read so many books. Yes, Viking Quest is so good! I had to read it because I had like a bazillion friends who recommended it.
Wow, that’s great that you’ve been homeschooled your whole life. Homeschooling is much better than public schools, from what I’ve heard. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life too.
I’ve actually never heard of the Mermay challenge. I’ll definitely check that out.
Yeah, I have seen the WFS short film, and it’s really good. I feel like in the book Leeli’s a little more talkative and smart than in the film, and the film makes her look too much like a baby. But still, it’s good, and they’re going to make a TV series now which I’m super excited to watch!
My favorite TV show is “When Calls the Heart” even though I haven’t watched it in a really long time. Of course, when the WFS series is out, that will probably be my favorite.
My favorite Christmas movie is Elf. What’s yours?
I can’t wait to get to know you better too!

Well, I still handwrite my stories too at first, then for every chapter I finish by hand I type it onto the computer. I know that’s a lot of extra work, but I just like the feel of the pen in my hand.I have three siblings; one sister and two brothers. Yes, my brother and I are a great team. 🙂

December 15, 2021 at 11:18 am #107882@annabelle Yess, plus with pen and paper it’s more transportable.
Wow, that’s a lot of siblings! Are you the oldest or…?

If hours don't turn into daysDecember 15, 2021 at 11:29 am #107883Good point, pen and paper is way more transportable.
Yes, I am the oldest of my siblings. My youngest brother is the only one that shares a lot of the same interests as me. The middle two siblings hate writing. My sister likes to read a little bit, but overall I connect best with my little brother. I forgot to ask: do you have any siblings?

December 16, 2021 at 7:45 pm #107900@annabelle I have a younger sister, but that’s it, haha.

If hours don't turn into daysDecember 16, 2021 at 9:05 pm #107902I agree I enjoy his books more, but some of his songs really hit home.
That’s cool that you can teach yourself. Do you use books, or online courses?
December 17, 2021 at 1:43 pm #107915Hello there! I am Koshka, or at least that’s what I’m called around here. *gasp* Another Homeschooler… Hi!
You are publishing your first book? Awesome! I have yet to complete ONE of my many story idea, so not even close to where you are.
I love poetry too, both writing and reading. My verse is rarely as direct as your Reading Poem. What are some of your favorite Poets?
I also love art, both graphite and watercolor. I prefer painting landscape, but draw a wide variety of things. What are your favorite art tools?
I can play the piano a little, but I’m focusing on the violin. My sisters however, are learning the piano, and are much farther than me. What’s your favorite Christmas choral/hymn?
Do you like jellybeans? I don’t like them, but I don’t dislike them.

I actually don’t use online courses. Basically, I just pick out a song I want to learn and print out sheet music for it (or learn it by ear, depending on if I want a specific arrangement or not.) I do have a few books that I use too.In the words of Jinto Queb, "Hurry, reading is fun!"
December 17, 2021 at 3:07 pm #107918Hi, @koshka!
Ugh, I know how that is having so many story ideas and not being able to complete any of them. I’ve had that problem for many years, and just recently I decided to sit down and FINISH a book. I just had to keep myself determined.
Yeah, my poems are pretty direct, and I think they’re more of rhymes than poems because they don’t use so many beautiful sentences and structures. I don’t know who my favorite poets are since I read such a variety… maybe Emily Dickinson or Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
My favorite art tools are probably brush pens. They’re good for calligraphy and hand lettering. I also like to use watercolor paints and colored pencils, though.
Oh, I love the violin (even though I can’t play!). My favorite Christmas song is probably “Silent Night” or “Deck the Halls”.
Yes, I do like jellybeans, but they aren’t my favorite candy. I prefer mints or chocolate bars. I feel like jelly beans are a bit too plasticky.
What’s your favorite book character, and what book is he or she from? My favorite is probably Heather from the Green Ember or Anne of Green Gables. Have you read either of those books? Both of them are good, although they’re completely different from each other.
In the words of Jinto Queb, "Hurry, reading is fun!"
December 18, 2021 at 5:33 pm #107926Is it sad if I say my favourite Christmas movie is a toss between Veggietales’ St. Nicholas, and the Donut Man’s Christmas episode? Both were such a great part of my childhood, I just get fond memories whenever I watch them. I found the Nativity pretty good as well. Oh, and I recently enjoyed Christmas with the Chosen.
