Yeah totally! I watched Haikyuu when I was younger but my sister screened it for me, and I skipped a whole season because of fanservice. I think I watched Blue Lock (S1) without too many issues but lets be honest it’s because it’s got an almost entirely male cast, and still I skipped some stuff, the scenes that play after the end credits sometimes had stuff in it I think,
I do that for my brother sometimes. Not for anime, but some other stuff.

March 27, 2025 at 2:55 pm #200805I did copy the pose from the game though…so is that bad?
Of course not. You still drew the drawing yourself, and most the reason people need references is pose much of the time.
Thanks, and please do, anything!
Okay. I noticed in your picture that you made the sketch out of very short lines. This is often called ‘chicken scratching’ and all people do this when they begin drawing, and it often takes a lot of practice to get out of the habit of doing it. I personally am still working on minimizing my chicken scratches rn myself.
Instead of making extremely short strokes with your pencil, try making longer ones. The less lines used to make up one entire line, the more finished and clean your drawing will look. What can help with this is instead of drawing by moving your wrist, lift your elbow off the paper, and draw using mostly motions from your elbow and shoulder. It will take practice, but it will make your art look more clean, more like a finished drawing than a draft sketch with color (not to insult your drawing. I still think it’s cute).
Hopefully this is helpful.
Don’t feel discouraged if you have trouble learning how to not chicken scratch, as I said, it will take practice. It also doesn’t help that for the amount of people online who complain about chicken scratching and why it isn’t a good thing to do, very few give tips on how to not do it.
Also note, that some people embrace it as part of their style, which is totally fine, even though its condemned by a lot of other artists, so if you totally want to ignore my criticism, go right for it. I won’t be mad at all.

#AnduthForever (💕)March 27, 2025 at 3:07 pm #200806@the_lost-journal also yeah, it’s pretty easy to mess up someone’s gender online lol
I’ve been mistaken for a guy on my YouTube channel before. Not too big a deal, I just correct them nicely and move on.

March 27, 2025 at 3:48 pm #200811Don’t worry I was pretty sure that was a typo lol.
The only reason why girl characters are in it half the time is for service 🙄 That is why I like the main girl from 86 ( I am going to reference that a lot XD) she is…. how do I put I??? She has a … flatter chest… I hope that isn’t inappropriate XD uhm… but yeah, she is modest. And mainly male casts never really have service.
Ugh ikr? If you want a good fantasy anime to watch when you’re older Frieren beyond journey’s end has a majority female cast and they actually act like real people and look normal. There’s a few girls who dress kinda immodest but they actually have the character type who would, and besides they aren’t main characters. Like there’s people like that irl but they usually have issues.
No I get what you’re saying, sometimes it helps. But tbh, I think the real issue is the people behind the animes not wanting to consider how real people are. Women who are curvy exist but they have more fat on their arms and waist, and might be less athletic. You don’t get to pick and choose one feature because it looks nice and throw out the rest. And also girls who are immodest exist but they are usually like party goers, arrogant, or want attention, people don’t exist that way for no reason.
Also something I notice is that fanservice for male and female characters is drastically different. It does exist but it’s done in totally different ways. I hear people talk about it like it’s the same, but when fanservice is done with guy characters they just get to look extremely cool. And people call it fanservice. When girls are used as fanservice, we don’t go ‘woooah look at her cool outfit, I wish I had her awesome hair’ we go ‘ughhhhh….’
I would watch sports anime, but I just don’t like watching sports… so why watch an anime about it? Lol, I understand why you did that tho!
lol yeah I actually don’t really like watching sports either! It’s about the dynamics between the characters and the storyline, usually sports is just kinda the medium. For instance, a storyline about not giving up could be done in a battle, sports, or a modern highschool show. Haikyuu might be a volleybal anime but it’s really about teamwork and personal growth, and Blue Lock might be a soccer anime but it’s really about abandoning your old life for one shot at your big dream.
I love their movies! I haven’t watched the boy and the heron before, but I will find time and tell you how it is! And yes, I would never recommend Grave Of the Fireflies to anyone who doesn’t want to sit in their room and stare at the wall, and question everything… mainly why the aunt was one of the most despicable persons to ever walk Japan.
Yeah definitely let me know how it goes! Didn’t it like win a big award or something too?
Oof yeah, I’ll watch it someday.
That picture sums it up really well 😭😂 I’m always a bit embarrassed to tell people I watch anime because somehow I have to explain “No like I watch the good ones!” and convince them I actually scoured the internet and found some that aren’t like the others. Have you seen Avatar the Last Airbender? It’s an American cartoon in a anime style and it’s quite tame (maybe one or two unsavory jokes but that’s it) oh wow actually I just looked it up and it’s rated for 7+ 😂. The plot is really good though. I really like the girls from it, they seem like real people and look like real people.

yessss I’ve never seen the whole show but I’ve seen lots of pictures and like a single episode, and it’s like one of the few anime-style stories whose art style I actually like. Making the characters’ designs realistic is probably a good reason as to why.
The fact that I found an artist who made a crossover between it and one of my personal favorite stories probably didn’t help either.

yeah that’s like the one excuse I can get behind for that kinda thing. Not that I would ever put that in a story, but still.

March 27, 2025 at 4:19 pm #200813Ikr it’s so weird! I mean it’s worth noting that Japan has very little Christian influence and we have a lot here. Even if a lot of modern day Christians don’t all follow the bible our countries foundations still have a influence.
Yeah I’ve struggled to learn how to draw girls because of this too! A lot of comics have bad stuff in them so comic artists online will deliberately make tutorials on how to make it look that way. I only draw guys for the most part because there’s a lot of great material on it online, but for girls it’s so hard to find. I can look up ‘male anatomy reference’ on google images to refresh my memory on where certain muscles go but I’m always having to be cautious when I look up anatomy references for girls.

March 27, 2025 at 4:23 pm #200814It’s really good! And has a great art style like you said.
I think if the arc is done well and she finds other purpose in life it’s ok, it’s all about the intention, and if they are doing it for the enjoyment of the audience. Something I’ve noticed is that two different animes can have the same girl in a short skirt but one will use camera angles and posing to make it lewd and the other will use camera angles and posing to make sure you never see up it. You can kinda tell the intention of a outfit based on how the show uses it, and I think sometimes it’s obvious whether its for fanservice or not.

March 27, 2025 at 4:26 pm #200815@mineralizedwritings true, our country was literally founded by people who at least professed to be Christian or follow biblical values, as opposed to many other countries which didn’t have that.
yeah, it’s pretty annoying that it’s all you can find sometimes.
Camera angles and posing are a big thing. Coming from a beginner animator/person who’s tried to make comics before but they always end up being kinda static because I’m still not great with “camera” angle on paper. Same with intention.

March 27, 2025 at 4:34 pm #200817yeah it’s hard! I’ve been trying really hard with dynamic posing this last year too, it’s a major deficit in my skills lol.
Oh and yeah, we should probably have taken this to the chat chat.
All discussion of anime now moving to the chat chat lol. Pls tag me over there if you want to respond to the conversation.

#AnduthForever (💕)March 27, 2025 at 9:42 pm #200819IKR! Anime has somehow infested everything! Even my brain! When ever I am trying to envision a character, my brain always imagines anime XD Here is an average interaction:
“So she is a female-” – Me
“Wearing an anime schools girl outfit?!” – My brain
“NO! She has blue eyes-” – Me
“Large anime eyes?!” – My brain
“NOO!!! She has brown ha-” – Me
“Anime hair?! Is this what you were imagining?!” – My brain
“NOOOOO!!! ARGHH!!!!” – Me

All y’all’s art looks amazing 🤩
Me being me, I started about four different 3-marker-drawings 🙄 but this was the first one I finished. I’m pretty happy with it for the most part.
(Sorry, just realized the lighting is kind of not good. Oh well)
(Also, partial disclaimer, I did accidentally ‘cheat’ on this one. I was going to layer more of the agate on the dress to make the shadows darker but accidentally grabbed a similar looking marker I also had lying out and didn’t notice until it was too late :p)
If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient.
