Coolio. 😃
“The studio was filled with the rich odour of roses, and when the light summer wind stirred amidst the trees of the garden, there came through the open door the heavy scent of the lilac, or the more delicate perfume of the pink-flowering thorn.”
Only because I have just finished this book and am rather disgruntled by how it ended.
*is probably geeking out about something*
July 3, 2017 at 3:07 am #36206@graciegirl Oooh, sounds familiar… um… like, Oscar Wilde I think the name was… um… OH! The Picture of Dorian Grey! I think… Or I could be totally wrong… *Shrugs* Oh well! Sorry you didn’t like the ending. I thought in general it was quite an interesting concept, although, the end was a little, well, depressing? But like, the idea was interesting. And it’s a classic. *Realises how weird this could be if I’m totally off.* Meh!

Inspiration<July 3, 2017 at 2:45 pm #36214@delightinlight The prologue is the beginning of the book, so yes, the first line of a book with a prologue would be the prologue’s first line.

July 3, 2017 at 8:36 pm #36254@Jess-Penrose Correct! Your turn. 🙂
Oh, I rather enjoyed it overall, but the ending stung me a little bc I felt like it was a bit sudden. He seemed to be going straight (or at least he seemed to be genuinely TRYING to go straight) and then in one teeny paragraph they said, “Oh, no. We weren’t really trying. We were just playing with somethin new”. I wish that I’d gotten more of a chance to SEE that he wasn’t actually changing his ways instead of the author basically telling you via the painting that he was really getting worse. THEN I would’ve watched him suffer the consequences peaceably. I notice that I get this vibe from a lot of old classics. *cough* The Count of Monte Cristo too. Plz don’t kill me anyone *cough* But it may be just me.
Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense. 😜 My rants seldom do. 😉*is probably geeking out about something*
July 3, 2017 at 9:28 pm #36261@graciegirl Yeah, he was a bit, well, it was like he couldn’t make up his mind. AAAAAHHHH!!!! ANOTHER CLASSIC LOVER!!!! And your ranting is no more randomly ranty than mine! ; D
Oh, yeah, um, first lines… uuuuum….
All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
Hopefully that should be somewhat clear. I like this start, I read it recently. Tooka while though… mightn’t be a bad idea to read this one over a long period of time if you haven’t read it already.

July 10, 2017 at 12:30 pm #36644@SleepwalkingMK 😀 My brain has a penchant for holding on to random information. (Especially related to people I like. 😉 )
On a certain afternoon, in the late springtime, the bell upon stall Moat House was heard ringing at an unaccustomed hour.
July 12, 2017 at 2:40 am #36739Moat house… ooooh…. um, something to do with an arrow. Black Arrow? R.L. Stevenson? Maybe not… could just have the same name… Tunstall Moat House I think… hm, you may have me here @Emma-Flournoy. Black Arrow could be a bit obscure… I haven’t met anyone else who’s read it… I’m probably way off. Anyway, that’s what I’m putting in anyway. Black Arrow by R.L. Stevenson.
