So this is a fun little game I thought we could play, to test eachother’s knowledge of literature.
So you post the first sentence of a book. If the sentence is a long one, you can shorten it if you want, just please put ellipsis points to make it clear the sentence isn’t finished.
Then someone has to guess which book it is from.
But one rule. The quote thread got a little crazy and confusing, so this time, only the person who guesses it correctly is allowed to put a new one up. No posting sentences left and right. Only if you guess the previous one correctly. If more than one person guesses at a time, and are right, look at the times on the posts, and go off of who did it first.
So, have fun with this first one, and no Googling…“Once on a dark winter’s day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father…”

@anne-of-lothlorien Oh that is so familiar….
June 29, 2017 at 9:05 pm #36055@winter-rose Getting any more familiar? *grins* If you’re really stuck I could give you the rest of the sentence, though I don’t know how much that would help…

@Anne-of-lothlorien No the rest probably wouldn’t help. 🙂 I’m going to guess something from G. K. Chesterton or the Sherlock Holmes mysteries.
June 29, 2017 at 9:22 pm #36063Nope. @winter-rose

@Mariposa Good job I would not have guessed that. I actually haven’t read it.
I’m afraid I don’t know what yours is from.
