As crazy as it sounds, I’ve never written any fantasy before. I recently had a story idea which would work perfectly for fantasy. So I decided to try it. In other words…HELP!!!! I have no clue how to do this. Please? Anyone? Help me!

@alia @ethryndal Sorry. In order for it to be fantasy, do I have to have fantasy animals? Do I have to make up animals? How do I even get started? Do I build a map of my world? That sort of thing. 😉
November 18, 2017 at 6:36 pm #53877@emily, you can have fantasy animals, or not. I probably would because that is usually the first big tip to readers that it is a fantasy story. But I don’t think its necessary. I’m a huge fan of new made up animals as long as you describe them well. And if you do use common fantasy animals, maybe spice it up and make them different from what they normally are. In one of my fantasy stories unicorns are evil instead of good.
My sister, @charisetter, is writing a fantasy series too. She has a map, and I think its really helpful for her to see where the boundaries of all the areas are.
As to how you get started, just like any other book. Get the story idea in your head and start writing and planning.

@alia Ok. Thanks. *jots down notes* Are there any free map making websites? (I’m bad at drawing :P) Thanks for the help!
November 18, 2017 at 6:46 pm #53883@emily you’ll have to ask my sister. She’s the mapmaker.
But I think if you look up ‘random map generator’ you might find something.
