Well, I think the only one that’s dead is the one Flare crushed. Unless what Marcel did was supposed to have killed it in the process of de-armoring it (either way, without armor, it won’t last long.) The third one, if I’m understanding what happened, should still be alive, unless the staff actually pierced into its body. Based on hybridlore’s RP, at least, it sounds like it’s still alive.

Felicity got shakily to her feet.
“Yep. Didn’t feel-” she stumbled suddenly, and Sara caught her.
“… a thing,” she finished. Her eyes were half glazed over, but she was still scanning the nearby area, ready to throw herself at any threat that came close.
“You okay?” she asked, trying to deflect.

November 8, 2024 at 7:15 pm #189441I think Marcel’s is dead; either we can say the feathers muffled it to death, or tearing off the iron kills the ironwalker because its body is sealed to the armor. This sounds rather morbid, now that I write it.

“You okay?” the girl asked.
Sara nodded. She slid her arm under the girl’s shoulders and helped her lean against a nearby wall. “What are these things?”

Marcel — Elderstrand (w/Group 1)
Marcel stumbled over to Sara and Felicity to fetch his staff. He held it in the crook of his bad arm and punched their shoulders with his other hand. “Nice job.”
They shared smiles for a split second. Marcel ran back into the fray. His hand still throbbed with a screaming pain, and he was still crying, although he wasn’t about to let that stop him. He leapt, and swinging his arm in a quick slash, he plunged the staff into an ironwalker.

Ellis — Elderstrand (Group 1)
Ellis slashed at one of the armored warriors, scoring the armor with a dark scorch mark, resisting more than it should have. His enemy swung a heavy fist at his head, and he ducked past it. A second opponent’s fist came out of nowhere, slamming into his chest and knocking him backwards. He rolled backwards into a crouching position, gasping for breath, but the energy coursing through him from Soulmight kept him on his feet.
Marcel, clinging to the back of another faceless knight somehow caused its armor to burst free. The creature inside fell limply to the ground. Its slick brown-gray skin that seemed stretched taut across its skinny form. Even under the helmet, it’s face was featureless.
A dragonish creature Ellis hadn’t seen before had somehow crushed another of the creatures inside its armor, but then fallen to the ground himself. Felicity and Sara had knocked a third off its feet.
But at least as many of Ellis’s allies were incapacitated or weakened, and the remaining creatures still outnumbered them.
Ellis’s first opponent approached him again, gripping its sword in two hands. As it swung, Ellis leapt into the air, clearing the swinging blade and thrust Soulmight through a gap in the armor near the neck. The creature stumbled but stayed on its feet. Ellis’s sword was wrenched out of his hand as he fell past, and he hit the ground hard, though he managed to land into a roll. The creature turned, preparing another strike.
Ellis reached out and reached out mentally to his sword. Soulmight lurched free of the monster’s body and flew to Ellis’s hand. The creature stumbled, thrown off balance, and missed its attack. Ellis lunged forward and rammed his sword into the back of its knee. The creature let out a rattling scream, muffled by its helmet and–most likely–its lack of a mouth.
Its hand lashed out and knocked Ellis backwards, slamming him against a wall.

Notes:
- I didn’t want to take too much in scene description, so here’s a more detailed description of the Ironwalkers without their armor. Their skin color is a dark tan color (or gray-brown) depending on how you might think of it. They’re pretty skinny and bony. (I guess I basically said exactly the same thing as I said in the RP, but whatever.) This may not be a useful comparison, but if anyone has seen the show Stranger Things, think of a demogorgon but with a completely blank face. (That was probably a sub-conscious influence when I was imagining these things.) Doesn’t matter much, because we probably won’t be seeing a ton of them without armor. And yes, they’re kinda creepy, but it’s not as horrific as Whaley’s idea of their being fused to the armor, lol.
- I decided that Ironwalkers can make noise, but don’t do so often. The complete silence is unnerving, but it seemed like they should have some reaction to getting seriously injured. They still don’t have mouths, but I guess they must have vocal cords anyway.
(Alright, I just need to stop editing, I’ve been working on this forever.)

@whalekeeper @loopylin @hybridlore @rae @raxforge @grcrleon and Julian — Elderstrand (Group 1)
Leon stood and watched the way Ellis fought, trying to gauge the weakness in the creature. Thing. Knight. Whatever it was.
He didn’t have long to stand there. One of the things was coming for him.
Leon ducked a blow aimed for his head and sprinted in under the creature’s arm. he drove his sword upward, but it slid off armor. Leon jerked to the side. He looked up and saw Julian rushing to help him. The young man leapt, sword flashing, and attacked the creature straight on. The thing was slower then Julian, but it was stronger, and Julian was forced to move quickly in order to keep out of it’s way.
Leon took the opportunity to sneak toward his enemy’s back. The creature must have sensed him, because it whipped around with a blow toward Leon’s head. Leon ducked and rolled to the side, skinning his knuckles on the street. Julian was at it again, hacking away furiously, although his sword did little damage. “Find a weak spot!” he yelled.
Leon was up again. from the corner of his eye, he saw someone ram a staff between the helmet and shoulder of one of the creatures. makes perfect sense. Leon waited as the attacker swept his sword toward Julian. as it did, Leon caught hold of it’s shoulder armor and jumped. Half on the thing’s back, Leon rammed his sword down with all his might.
The creature made a strange sound that seemed as if it were crying out. Then, he whipped forward and grabbed Leon by the shirt. Leon tried to wrench free, and his shirt tore off his left shoulder. He lost his grip and fell to the street. he scrambled back to his feet.
“Leon!” Julian yelled.
Leon looked up and was just in time to duck his enemy’s blade. He’s still fighting!
The next moment something slammed into Leon, driving the breath from his lungs. Leon was hurled against the wall of a building. His vision blackened and all he could do was cling to his sword as he crumpled to the ground. I have to get up! I can’t leave Julian!
Then everything went silent, and Leon knew no more.

November 8, 2024 at 8:37 pm #189450Um two questions.
First, how fast are they (the ironwalkers)? You said they weren’t really mobile… Â so is charging kinda out of the picture? And second, is it okay if Marcellus has his pistol?

Baron (Brutus)—Group 1, Elderstrand edge
Leon crumpled, loosing consciousness. The feather boy had a hurt hand, the girl with hair almost like his own had been flung into a building. Flare was too tired to play anymore. And there were still at least eight more enemies to go.
I’ve sat by long enough.Â
Brutus ran to Julian, pushing him out of the way of a swinging sword. “Get yourself together,” he hissed into his ear. “I’ll carry Leon to safety. Cover me.” Brutus stood up, wiping the blood away from his face and doing his best to straighten out his contorting hand. A wind swirled up under Leon’s form, carrying the man on a litter of air to a rooftop a little distance from the fight. Before Julian could say a thing, Brutus left, a silver streak dodging among the fray.
I can’t really bring these things down. Leon couldn’t with his sword, and I am no swordsman like him. I am only a Windcharmer.
Brutus halted. He was worthless. He wanted to cry out, to ask for someone to give him something to do, to assign him as task like…like…
Brutus shook his head violently, sending drops of water flying from his hair. No, no! He wouldn’t, he couldn’t, never, never, never, never!
A dark shape swung at his head, and Brutus instinctively ducked as the blade passed above him. What would be the virtuous thing to do at this moment?
Brutus looked around him. Fellow fighters, warriors, even, and fallen forms. The virtuous thing…to fight by their sides, to watch their backs, to be the hero Rya thought he was. Brutus turned around to face the iron warrior, calling upon the wind once more, and attacked.

Felicity- Group 1, Elderstrand
“What are these things?”
Felicity furrowed her brow. “I thought at first they might be clickmen, but they’re silent, no machinery. But they aren’t ink animated, either, probably, because there was something inside. They definitely aren’t people, though.”
She noticed Sara was watching her ramble on with a confused frown.
“To summarize,” Felicity said, “I have no clue.”
Marcel suddenly appeared to retrieve his staff.
As she watched him go back and attack another iron creature, her smile was replaced with a scowl. Everyone else was fighting their hardest. She didn’t have time for a break.
“We need to help them.” She pulled away from Sara and tried walking back into the fight. Everything ached, and she felt suddenly very dizzy as she took the first step, making her sway uneasily.

Ben Gunn, Flare – Group 1, Everstrand edge
“Flare!” Ben rushed to Flare’s side.
“I’m fine, I just used up my last spell.” Flare got up to his feet with the help of Ben. He stubbled but managed to keep his ground.
“You need to rest.”
“No, I’m fine, seriously. It just happens whenever I push myse- look out!”
A knight’s sword came down and hit the ground where they stood just a moment ago. Flare drew his sword. He rushed at the monster, their swords met with a clash. Ben, from behind, jumped up high into the air and came down on the monster with his two swords. Right in between the armor plates, Ben thought to himself. The monster fell to the ground.

November 9, 2024 at 8:23 am #189470How tall are they?
Probably like…6’6″ without armor on average. The armor would add a few inches, so the tallest are probably about 7′ in armor.
First, how fast are they (the ironwalkers)? You said they weren’t really mobile…  so is charging kinda out of the picture? And second, is it okay if Marcellus has his pistol?
They could charge. They wouldn’t be able to stop too effectively due to their momentum, but as seen by how effectively they’ve managed to chase people, they can move quickly. They’re just not very nimble.
A pistol is fine. Compared to most of the weapons our characters have, it will definitely be the most effective against these things, but I wouldn’t think it would be an instant kill. While a modern pistol could pretty easily penetrate medieval armor, this is what I call “implausibly resistant” armor (some might call it plot armor. I prefer the former term), so it might be more bullet resistant than is realistic, though some shots will probably go through. (Due to their strength, they can use thicker armor than would be practical for a human, so that is one plausible factor to their implausible resistance.) Additionally, the creatures inside the armor are fairly damage resistant as well. I imagine them to not have very many critical organ systems, so hitting them in some places won’t do much. (As a gore reduction measure, they also don’t bleed.)
So, yeah, pistol is fine.
