        Marcel — Elderstrand (w/ Group 1)

The chunky creatures loomed over them, casting shadows over the soaked ground. They walked without sight or feeling, without head movement.

Someone cried out. It was the man with wind powers. He cradled his hand, and when the other young men realized the danger, they fell into a desperate barricade.

Marcel squared his jaw. The creatures were big and slow. He handed his staff to Felicity – who was demonstrating a fair bit of weaponless spunk. He ran along the side of the alley, looping around to grab one of the thick, armored arms.

        This is metal.

He pulled, putting his back into it. The arm swung in a slow arch and sent him flying – and his back smacked against the brick wall with a crunch of pain.

With a groan, rubbing his sore spine, he called out, “They’re made of iron!”
The men already knew. Some had tried slicing with their swords, and came off with only some friction. Those with blades backed up, and started reevaluating the situation.

The iron armor shone dully on the creature’s limbs and shoulders. As they walked, the ground vibrated steadily. Like giant metal men passing through a teeming grassy field, they swung their swords from side to side, meaning to rid the city of life.

Marcel looked up at the stormy sky, then squinted down at the rain. It trickled and flung itself into the iron armor. One of the iron walkers rolled his shoulder, and the low screech of metal against metal sent everyone to clapping their ears shut.

Okay, they aren’t solid. Marcel pulled himself to his feet and ran up to one of the creature’s backs. He quietly swung himself onto its shoulder.

It was difficult to see what he was doing. He clamped his feet into the chinks in the armor, and, whipping his wet hair out of his eyes, he stuck a hand into one of the grooves.

“What are you doing?” Someone yelled. Someone else began barking orders, and it was unclear whether it was an alley or another patrol of soldiers.

Marcel closed his eyes. He whispered encouraging words to himself, and slowly spread his fingers over the inner metal panel.

Soft white tendrils extended from his palm. They grew inward, towards the walker’s joints – curling and twisting into flowery, infinitely complex patterns. Marcel bit his lip and tried to direct the growth, aware of the fractal pulsing out of his own chest. His shoulders began to shiver uncontrollably as the patterns grew on the inside of his skin.

The metal giant stumbled forward irrationally. Marcel almost fell over the side, and latched on for dear life. The movement had a strength greater than he was accustomed to.

Finally, all the chinks and joints were filled the feathery fractals, which swelled and disconnected everything. Like a tree’s roots breaking up a brick path, the armor began to pop out at the seams. With a great sigh, the creature fell to its knees and crumbled over.

The metal collapsed onto Marcel’s hand.

The pain shot up his arm, and he bit back a sob. Tears filled his eyes and mixed with the rain. He fell awkwardly, rolling away from the metal heap and into the group of people.

“One down…” he gasped. “H-How many more?”

I’m sorry for not RPing, it’s been busy the past couple of days.

Ben Gunn, Flare – Group 1, Everstrand edge

The entire time of this happening, Ben and Flare began this following discourse:

“We must abandon them, they are causing too much noise, guards will be storming the place.” Ben walked hastily away.

Flare followed him but disagreed with the idea.

“We will be surely caught!” Ben was waving his arms around, “We must go and seek shelter for the night. We might meet them again later.”

Flare was stubborn, “I cannot leave them, some of them need to be healed.”

“Not at scratch has been laid on them!”

          “I don’t mean physical.”

Ben turned away; he knew Flare was right.

“If you want to leave them, fine, I have no objections. But I am staying here.”

Ben sighed, “I owe you my life. I cannot leave you.”

Flare looked at Ben with a smile. “Very well then, shall we go back.”

Suddenly, they heard shouts and fighting coming from where they left. They rushed to see what was going on, swords and lute in hands.

          “They’re made of iron!”

Suddenly, one of the knights (am I getting this right?) came down upon Ben. He blocked the attack with his swords but struggled to hold the knight in place. Without hesitation, Flare played a chord. A magical hand appeared and grabbed the knight as Flare held a high note on his lute. The hand squeezed and crushed the knight. Flare fell to the ground in exhaustion.

Suddenly, one of the knights (am I getting this right?)

Basically. If you missed it when I introduced them earlier, these are called Ironwalkers. They are humanoid creatures clad entirely in armor. Their helmets have a completely smooth front with no eye holes or any other facial features. (Because they don’t have eyes.) They also don’t speak or make other vocalizations. They’re very strong, and their armor is extremely good at absorbing blunt force. (They can survive huge falls for example.) They don’t have complex mental faculties, but this is in some ways an advantage, as it pretty much gives them complete immunity against outside mental influence.

              They are hollow inside, right?

There are actually biological creatures inside the armor. Marcel’s exclamation that they are made of iron was erroneous as he later discovered, though I see how when he later said that they “aren’t solid” it could have been misinterpreted as saying they are hollow. What he really meant (I assume) is that they aren’t solid metal (i.e. there is something non-metal inside.) Whatever the case, I did intend for them to be actual creatures wearing armor rather than empty suits of it.

I think I’ll add another character after the fight is over, if that’s alright. Or guess technically two characters. One and a half? I should go back and check how many character slots we’re allowed.

Yes. When he said “not solid,” he meant the creatures aren’t made of magically fluid iron that is completely solid throughout. They at least have separate iron plates and pieces. He ripped off at least their outer layer, and whatever is inside is yet to be discovered. (That would be Jonas’ decision.)

Sorry y’all, I might not be very active on the RP for the next week because I have a debate coming up, so feel free to toss Sara around wherever she needs to be.

                      Sara — Elderstrand, w/ Group 1

Silver music appeared in Sara’s vision as one of the strangers began playing on some kind of instrument. Magical hands, feathers, and giant robots filled the narrow street. Raindrops fell on her face and arms and pattered on the street as the others shouted and fought against the machines.

Her sneakers splashed in rainwater as she ducked behind the corner of a building. She wondered if she should help the others, but what could she do? She didn’t have a weapon or strange powers like some of the others. Fear pricked at her insides as she pressed herself against the damp brick and squeezed her eyes shut.

@jonas I was imagining the Ironwalkers as just enchanted suits of armor before. The fact that there’s something inside but they still don’t make any noise makes them a lot scarier.

Felicity- Group 1, Edge of Elderstrand

Felicity took the staff gratefully. Her knuckles were raw and bleeding and could use a break.

She rolled away from another attack, then swung the staff around, knocking out the back of her opponent’s knees. It stumbled to all fours.

Mimicking Marcel, she jumped onto its back while it was down. Immediately, she saw a small gap in the armor between the neck and helmet. With all her strength, she shoved the staff down into it.

                          It hit something inside.

The knight shuddered. Then with surprising speed and force, reached back and grabbed Felicity’s arm and threw her overhead at the closest building.

She felt the sharp pain of the impact, a dull soreness everywhere, then nothing but the freezing rain on her face.

She blinked. The world was fuzzy and upside-down. She craned her neck to see the knight.

The dark blur came into focus. The staff was still lodged in its neck, forcing it to cock its head to one side. Though it had no face, Fel got the feeling of being stared at.

                          It walked towards her.

                            Sara — Elderstrand, w/ Group 1

Sara flinched as one of the machines threw the tall girl with white-blond hair against a building. Her head lolled to the side for a moment and then snapped up as the robot started walking toward her.

Sara steeled herself and rushed out from the alley. From behind the machine, she gripped the girl’s staff that was still lodged in the gaps between its armor and pushed in as hard as she could.

The machine groaned and tipped over, caught off balance by the sudden pressure. Sara yanked the staff from its head and ran over to the girl. “Are you okay?”

3 Ironwalkers down, 9 to go, if anyone was wondering. Pretty sure there were originally a dozen.
